Found a four pack of the Starkeller Peach. It’s so hard finding the newer Starkeller beers near my house and this has probably been my favorite of all their sours
Also going to finally try something from Stacked Deck and see if the growing hype about them is worth it.
I would say yes on Stacked Deck. The Vanilla Moonrise is outstanding, and the Trident is very good. I was wary of them, thinking they were just in it for the craft beer money, but they make some solid beers.
We've been drinking a lot of pastry stouts over the past few months because after the FSB 2019 anniversary beers my wife has wanted to try more of them. I picked up a 4-pack of Turtlenecks and Blazers as a result.
Rube - ain’t this one of your hangouts?

Yes, I am a member at Back Channel. All their beer names are MN-related in some way (many time, very obscurely). Looks like I know what I'll be having on Sat...

Opened a Starkeller Peach last night. They haven’t made a single bad Berliner in the series but this one is hands down the best one of them all.

How many people will think it is for Ovechkin?
But Rube doesn’t like IPAs

He likes some doubles, iirc. The extra booze balances out some of the hoppyness in many of them.

I know - I just like to poke him a little given a few years ago he was so anti IPA
But Rube doesn’t like IPAs
I don't like West Coast IPAs. :poke:
NE and Milkshakes are great. Some "midwestern" style (Founders All Day IPA) are kind of passable. Maybe.
Also, as was mentioned, the doubles/etc are good, simply because that shag-carpet feeling isn't there, when you drink 'em.
That being said, tried BlackStack's 4th Anniv Quad IPA tonight. Expensive, it's $20~ for a 4-pack of pint cans. Delicious. Very smooth.

I'm with you. I can handle DIPA,Hazy, and Milkshake IPA as well as some west coast IPAs.
I think the only West Coast I can handle, and it's definitely a sample at best, then done, is Ballast Point Sculpin, and Russian River Pliny The Elder (an LTD Sunday regular will bring in a growler after he visits family in CA; so 2-3 days old).

Pliny is a DIPA and it’s damn tasty.
Still too hoppy for me. That being said, I can still appreciate quality.

Viking and I met up at Ansari's for lunch/Twins game today at Ansari's. As usual, quite a few good beers on tap (and to-go). I think my favorite was the 2018 Lift Bridge Irish Coffee Stout. He had the 2017 Prairie Vanilla Noir.
And someone brought in a bomber of Weldworks' Symphonize BA Stout to share. That was a banger.

It was at Ansari's.
Perrin Brewing (MI) released their annual No Rules Vietnamese Porter today, and they allow proxy pickups (thanks to melmac/Mr melmac for muling!). I may have bought 2 dozen bombers, various years/variants. One of my top 5 beers ever. LOVE that beer. If one hasn't had it, one should search it out.

We were in Hopkins today doing a program through Stages and the event took us past LTD. I used it as an excuse to buy some crowlers since we had friends coming by tonight.
The S’mores coffee beer was excellent. Also bought a hazy vanilla white dessert stout that was a collab with Ineffable Brewing which was extremely unique in terms of flavor. The 3rd we opened a Blueberry Muffin Blond Ale that smells and tasted like they figured out how to liquify a Duncan Hines blueberry muffin.
Besides the collab the most interesting thing I tried tonight was a Chai cider from Duluth Cidery. It was one of the better ciders I’ve had even though I’m not a huge fan of chai
Best beer of the night though was the Bourbon Barrel Aged PTO from 3 Sheep’s. Just a great mix of bourbon and a pretty darn good base beer
The S'mores is awesome.
The collab is basically with themselves (Ineffable is a former LTD brewer ).
And the blueberry is indeed like a blueberry muffin.

Had Vanilla Bean Moo Joos at Brau Brothers. As good as it gets!

I was thinking Ineffable was An old Blackstack
Brewer and then I remembered it was LTD.
I’ve never hated LTD as I think you know but I thought all 3 of these were very good compared to what they usually make. Our friends who came over had never had a white stout so that alone blew their mind.
White stouts are not common. Bought a crowler of the collab, should be interesting to try. I think LTD is starting to experiment a bit more, which is a good thing. I've heard through the grapevine that they are going to try to have their outdoor Anniv party this year. I guess they are fairly confident they can pull it off.
Was there today with the usual Sunday Crew (locals) and LTD still had the Chocolate Rye Porter (Nitro) on tap. Darn good beer, and Armadillo can attest to that.

Had a Humble Forager smoothie beer. The strawberry/orange/banana marshmallow creme. It was delicious! Also had a Razzimus Prime raspberry sour from More brewing. We got it to go with dinner from Ansaris, that we got from Ansaris. Which was also good.
Did I mention we had Ansaris?

Figured you’d like the smoothie beers especially from them

I definitely need to try more. It’s like drinking juice, not beer! And not chunky like the ones from Brewing Projekt.

Yeah, had to toss a couple cans from Brewing Projekt. I don't do chunks. And they were fresh/properly coolered. :chainsaw: Haven't bought anything from them since.
Humble Forager is solid, although I tend to go for their pastry stouts instead of the sours/smoothies. And yes, the smoothies are juice. Pure juice.

Cracked mine tonight. HEAVY vanilla upfront, and I'm a sucker for vanilla. As it warmed, got some of the coffee in there. I fully enjoyed it.

I generally enjoy one of a kind types of beer. This certainly fell in that category.
Opened a growler of PAMP’s Rye Dopplebock. It’s just a really tasty well made German lager. Hint of rye and very malty.
I was only buying one on whim (wife loves their Tiramisu beer they made recently) but since they only had two left they gave me the second for free. Yay for free beer
I had Ineffable's White Stout the week they opened. It was heavy on the coffee, almost like a coffee blonde ale. The infusion of vanilla made it so much better (and it wasn't bad to begin with, assuming you like the coffee taste).

For you bourbon aficionados is Kentucky Owl worth the price they charge? I saw a couple bottles of it earlier today and I know very little about it

I'd say the Kentucky Owl Confiscated is somewhat overpriced (I usually see it in the 120+ range) for what it is. The assorted Batch releases of Kentucky Owl have been incredibly good. Whether that makes them worth the 25-300 or more is a different discussion, and is in the realm of cost/quality that it's really hard to say, because it's so much personal preference.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Bought a 4 pk of Minneapolis Cider Mango Habanero. Fan- :censored: tastic! This may be my go-to summer bevy.
I see they have a Blueberry LE I may try.
Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.

This must have been a batch release given it was $250 a bottle

The Confiscated is across the top of the label.
Dixon Dedman (the blender for Kentucky Owl, although he's leaving) did a really good job on those batches. But, any time you get to $250 for a bottle of bourbon, it's so much personal taste involved that I always hesitate to say if it's worth the price.
Ideally, you'd get a pour at a bar to try it out first. Not sure if anyone has it, but Volstead in Eagan, Borough in Mpls, Parlor in either downtown, Brick & Bourbon in Maple Grove, Whiskey Inferno in Chanhassen would likely be the best bets.

Yeah - I was out looking for a gift and saw it but I’d actually never heard of it. That’s exactly how I’d want to do it if I were serious about a bottle of it
Instant Zen (LTD Brewing) Hazy NE IPA, mango/passion fruit. Juice bomb. Loved it.
Then went to Back Channel to meet up w/friends, ran into Viking by pure chance . The group I was with had bottles/cans to share. Typical. Good afternoon w/perfect weather.

Gorgeous day to be out. Biked from my SIL to Wabasha Brewing in the afternoon (22 miles total) and then stopped at Venn when driving home. Shared three flights of some pretty solid beers. I forgot how good Venn is.

The normal Joe probably can't. We were drinking with one of the owners.

I need to add Venn/Arbiter to the places to check out this summer. My wife and I are planning to take a few Fridays off to hit some taprooms we haven’t visited

I think if we were blocking them out we'd look at something like the following. We could pretty easily do these on a Friday afternoon and still pick kids up from whatever summer programs are going on those weeks.
- Arbiter/Venn
- Unmapped/Boom Island (never went to the old Boom Island either)
- Waconia/Enki/Schramm

Personal opinion: don't bother with Enki or Unmapped. They have decent spaces....uh, yeah that's it. Boom is okay. Waconia is great all-around: talkable staff, good beer, good space for what it is. I'd also recommend Spilled Grain in Annandale, although it is a hike. Great space, great beer, talkative staff.
