Victory at Sea was in my Top 5 list of beers when I use to drink beer all the the time. Now that I’m a very occasional beer drinker, I’m very boring… lol!!!

Ever had Even More Jesus by Evil Twin Brewing?
Tried one last weekend before the game, very good, but not $12 good.
That and many variants of that (Double Barrel Jesus, Au Mas Cafe Jesus, Even More Coco Jesus, a couple others). I think it's worth it, at least to try once. I wouldn't make a habit of it, though.

A few years ago Evil Twin and Clown Shoes were making the best range of stouts you could find in MN. I think they're both still very good but you just can't find them as easily because of the earlier mentioned trend towards hyper localization. MN brewers have also upped their game a lot in this regard when you think about what Forager, Barrel Theory, Back Channel and Dangerous Man put out.
I just might have scored this year's Toppling Goliath Assassin for a good (secondary) price. After my pickup tomorrow, I'll have a 5 year vertical. At least SOMETHING went right today. 😉

Buddy made a mule run to Drekker a bit ago, brought back some BA Stouts. Having the Flizzard 5 (they used Take 5 candy bars). WOWZER. Amazing, wondrous, incredible beer. Tastes like a stout-flavored Take 5. Thiccc, too. Poured half the bottle in a glass haphazardly (this is a two-pour, for sure) and no head.

Stopped at Back Channel today, some bottles were released for the stout club members...a few over 16% ABV.
Also tried the BA Popeye (Imperial Stout w/ Maple & Coffee aged in a Heaven Hill Bourbon barrel). Tremendous.
Their annual Soviet Slayer (named after Herb Brooks) is released next Saturday (BA RIS), along with any leftover bottles from today:
- BA Gunslinger - Imperial Amber aged in a Jack Daniels barrel - 10.50%
- BA Space Blazer - Imperial Porter w/ vanilla aged in an Appleton Rum barrel - 10.00%
- BA Last Natty - Barleywine aged in a Blantons Bourbon barrel - 16.25%
- BA Popeye - Imperial Stout w/ maple & coffee aged in a Heaven Hill Bourbon barrel - 16.00%
- BA Notable Ascent - Imperial Stout w/ vanilla aged in an Apple Brandy barrel - 16.50%

I'm going Saturday for the release and hoping to pick up some of the Notable Ascent, Popeye, and Last Natty as well. I've had the BA version of the first two but they're two of the best beers I've had all year so I don't mind picking a few up.
Sadly the BA Space Blazer didn't do much for me. It's better without the barrel aging.
I agree on the Blazer. I really like it, but I don't love it.

Went to Northern Taphouse (nee Grizzly's) in Plymouth for the Goose Island Bourbon County Stout tap takeover. The base was great, the coffee was even better.
After being forewarned on the Biscotti and Sir Isaac, didn't order those. The rest of the rail ordered those, and when Andy (mgr) asked if anyone liked the Biscotti, it was a resounding, "NO." Pure black licorice.
Stopped at MGM on 7/Hopkins Crossroad late afternoon (I knew that store is not a "hunted" store), and they had the base and the coffee still left. About a dozen bottles each. Picked up two of each, a buddy bought the rest of the base. The clerks asked, "You know what these cost, right?" "Yep, we know." They didn't comprehend paying that much for a bottle of beer. We laughed, and said, this is actually rather cheap for what we usually pay for special releases. 😀
Anyway, good day for sure.

Back Channel was jampacked today. Loaded up on bottles, and new sweatshirt that was delivered this morning (gray, with maroon/gold lettering, so DUH had to buy it). Fun times. Good to see @davescharf and @Viking

'Twas a fun day. Just the beers for me though. Also, this bike was parked out front.

new Bo had a similar deal yesterday with a tap takeover. 2018-2022 variants and bases. Had a couple flights. The sir Isaac’s and biscotti weren’t terrible but not the favorites.

It was fun to see you guys as well. I really like the Maroon and Gold jersey style sweatshirt they have. I told my wife that would be a good Christmas idea.
The bike must have shown up after I left.
The bike did show up later. That maroon (main color) and gold sweatshirt is heavy duty, bought that one when it hit. SOLID sweatshirt.

If you ever make it Phoenix, Grand Avenue Brewing company is awesome. Great beer and smells amazing in here with the smoked meats. (tasty too!) My fave of the places we’ve been to this trip.
Superstition Meadery is top notch. Look for distro down there.

Vending Miller Lite at USB for the Vikings. Always laugh under my breath when someone wants a Coors and all we vend in the upper deck is Miller for beer. They always make comments about Miller and how they only drink Coors. I would seriously like to have a blind taste test. I would bet, 50-60% of these people couldn't tell Miller Lite, Coors, Bud Light or even Mich Golden apart.

I'll take that bet. Did this exact taste test about a decade ago. I nailed all three beers; Miller, Coors, and Bud Light.
Now, I did that test with a fresh pallet mind you. Get me about 4-5 beers in, I would have a bit of a harder time. Coors Light is the one beer that I would probably say I would get right about 80% of the time no matter how deep I'm into it.

Tried a Bent Paddle - Cold Press Black on tap while at Two Rivers in Prescott. I give it an A for a coffee beer.

When I really got into the craft beer scene 7-8 years ago, there was this bottle...basically a unicorn. $1000-1200 on the secondary. Over the years, the price dropped, sometimes rapidly. Audience was shrinking.
I solidified a purchase of a bottle this week. Toppling Goliath's Kentucky Breakfast Brunch Stout, $200. I finally said "fuggit," I think that is the best one can do on the secondary for that beer, due to retail price/driving time to brewery/hassle/etc.

I have a few Assassins currently, and Mornin' Delight...have had a few. The KBBS (and SR71, or I think it's called Blackbird/Night Hawks, something different now, due to a cease and desist) are ones I have never had. Your pics are drool-worthy, none-the-less.

Popeye - Back Channel Brewing. A Dbl. Imperial Stout in their Collective Series… All I can say is “WOW”.
Thanks @Viking

Once again, Shell's Snowstorm rocks. Mahogany Lager.
Surly Darkness variants:
Ginger Snap: I don't want anything to do with it.
Lumberjack Breakfast: Good, but underwhelming, a little disappointed.
Raspberry Chocolate Torte: Disappointing. Almost syrupy. I wouldn't buy it again, and I LOVE raspberry adjunct in my stouts. LOVE.

Mainstreet Bar, Hopkins.
Macallan 12. Single pour, $11.
There's a reason I like this place, and no, am not a regular. Might hit the place up every 2 months or so.

Hit up Back Channel today, for the comeback of "F*ck That Guy" Hazy IPA, named after Andrew Volstead, and the Duck Duck Duck Duck stout release (and member bottle). Both were delicious. Also, sounds like there is ONE stout membership left, and 60+ IPA memberships left. I guess a lot of people had dual memberships, and those people decided to just stick with the stout one this year.

There were 3 stout memberships remaining on Friday when i picked up my bottle. I was surprised as well. Didn't hear that about the IPA group.
2 of the stout memberships were bought today. They asked about it when they saw me claim my 4Duck bottle. And I am wrong on the IPA group. 60+ have signed up, 8~ are left (M, one of the owners, mis-spoke). She looked VERY tired today. Place was standing room only by 1pm.

Bald man breweries, my favorite band The Suburbs, Love is the Law
Aloha!
Green Mill in Bemidji has the old Jameson Black Barrel Select Reserve on the shelf. $8 for a very generous pour (it's been there for years, I suspect they want to get rid of it, I may need to assist them in that)
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
@viking I got mine for 2023 so I’m excited about that. I’m debating heading down there tonight or tomorrow with the extra discount of merch to get that Maroon and Gold Sweatshirt

The maroon-gold sweatshirt is really nice, heavy duty. Also the gray one with maroon-n-gold lettering is same heavy-duty quality. I'd head over there for the double discount, but I already have everything that I want from the wall.

A couple of beers while in St. Cloud yesterday
1) Toppling Goliath Holidotz - Cranberry Apple Cinnamon Lager: A good after dinner beer.
2) Oliphant - Blizzard of '91 (Brown Ale): Not bad at all. Like the hint of pecan and pumpkin in the beer.
3) Big Deal Brewing - brewed by Labatt's: To IPA-ish for me even the can read an 'original golden ale'.
Really wanted a Summit - Great Northern Porter on tap, but the keg was dry.

Day off today, met up with a couple friends at Unmapped. I had written that brewery off a couple years ago, horrible beer. However, they got a new brewer (formerly of LTD and Ineffable), and heard they upped their game. I will say, I agree. Tried a few 5ozers, to maximize the array of their 16 taps, and I enjoyed them all. Nothing mind-blowing, but solid.
In other news, one of the asst brewers/cellarmen at LTD was hired by Dangerous Man, for their new facility in Maple Lake. Production only, from the sounds of it, which means they will be going into distribution. This could be interesting.

Swung by Luce Line (Plymouth) today, hadn't been there in quite a few months. Tried their Winter Solstice Rye BA Stout. Ended up buying a bottle, it's a very solid beer.

Not beer, but whatever, not starting a new thread. Pub 819 in Hopkins has George T Stagg (2022, 138.7 proof, $32/pour). So delicious, it's been many years since I had this bourbon. Worth it.

Drekker’s new facility, BruHalla. ?
Really neat space, open a little over a week. A hotel, with their beer on tap and a little market with a few food options and some other shops.
If you make it up here for some reason, check it out!
So many good smoothie sours. ?
Looking forward to going to Hoops while in Duluth this weekend!

Not beer, but...
Stopped at Aces in Hopkins to see if there was anything that piqued my interest. Was about to ask if they carried Traverse City Rye Whiskey, which is one of maybe 4-5 ryes I like, and I spotted a bottle. Only issue was, it was barrel proof/store pick/etc so it was $100 (regular rye is about $45 in MI). Asked them about it, and if they had regular.
They can't get the regular for some reason (guessing distro issues), but this one was some sort of special hookup or something. Now, Aces is overpriced on some things, like this bottle (IMO should fall in the $70-80 range) BUT I do love this whiskey, and wanted something nice for the post-game tonight. I did have a small sample when I got home, have to test the product, you know 😉 and it's delicious.

For a one-time payment of $1,000, fans of Wooden Ship Brewing Co. in Minneapolis can get one free beer, per day, for life.
You can get a similar deal if you live closer to Utepils Brewing, the upcoming Hackamore Brewing in Chanhassen or Wandering Leaf in St. Paul.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
First night in Bangkok. This stout from New Zealand is outstanding!
I just spent a week in Germany drinking Dunkels, Bocks, and the occasional Helles. With all these places in the States making beers with a bunch of adjuncts (which I really do like) it was nice to have a week where you couldn't find any of that.
When we were driving to Salzburg we noticed a place called Hoppebrau right along side the road in a tiny Bavarian town called Waakirschen. We stopped there on the way back to have dinner and it felt like we had walked into an American brewpub. There were 5 IPAs on tap, including a hazy, and they sold beer to go and a bunch of merchandise. I really liked the two beers I had (a Bock and a NEIPA) and the taste I got of my wife's Sour IPA was pretty good too.
I ended up bringing home a couple bottles of their Marzen and a bottle of an Oak Aged (which I think is actually a whiskey BA) Imperial Stout they made. It was getting pretty late for the kids since we ran them around pretty good in Salzburg but it was a fun time and I wish I could have tried some of their other stuff.
The beer I referenced above came from a small place here in Bangkok. They probably had 75 plus micros in their coolers, only about 10 of which were from the U.S. Mostly Europe, SE Asia and Australia, NZ, etc. We only got to try a few but it was nice to sample from elsewhere. The city we live in north of Manila it's hard to acquire non-local mircos. They're fine but the variety is limited unless we make the trek to Manila.
Late night dinner at Ansari's. Had a beer from Drekker... CHONK Sundae Sour - Peanut Butter and Jelly. Talk about a thick beer... I've had milkshakes less thick. Makes a Guiness look like water.
