Astonishing to me how they still get good recruits. Why would anyone want to go to that dumpster fire.
While it’s OK for Gopher loyalists to HATE the Badgers (it’s damn near a requirement) questioning why top players want to go to Wisconsin is somewhat comical. Tradition (6 NCAA titles) a solid home rink to play in, a history placing players in the NHL (including quite a few MN born players), strong academics, a cool campus set-up, outstanding social life/party life for students, terrific tailgating at Camp Randall football games, Madison, along with being the State Capitol feels like a true college town, the list is lengthy… 🙂
Lucius’ probably think they’ll be saviors of the program. I don’t know how anyone growing up maroon and gold could even fathom going there. Or maybe they are planning to buy the school. I’ve even heard they built a daycare for the boys too.
I hope Wisconsin continues to suck, dragging them right along with.
These poor kids probably aren’t allowed to wipe their butts without mom and dads help. I feel bad for them. They might grow up rich, but have no idea how the world actually works.

The kid probably had many choices and he chose the the team that’s blown goats for the last handful of years. I’d probably go play for a team that was winning.

As much as it pains me to say it, BP is correct about Madison. There are a lot of legitimate reasons for a player to choose Bucky over the Gophers.
The REAL head scratcher is why any top player would choose to go to UMD over Minnesota.

I can't think of anything Madison offers that Minneapolis doesn't outside of "small town feel". Except Madison isn't that small and when you're walking around campus at UM you feel like you're on a true, typical college campus. Yes UW has much to offer but for anyone that grew up a UM fan? I don't see it.

I was only commenting on why players choose to play for the Badgers. Most MN born players would love to play for the Gophers. But as we all know, there’s only 18 full scholarships to be divided up. As far as the Dogs, I could explain in detail how/why they landed many of their top recruits, but most on this board already have a basic idea…so I won’t at time. Suffice it to say, aside from the obvious HERMANTOWN connection, there’s a bunch of other reasons, getting a state of the art NHL configured rink built in 2011 being another one.

Some people like to get away from mom and dad for college. If you’re from the metro, the U might not be the best option if you’re looking explore new worlds. Duluth and Madison are nice college towns far enough away that you have your own life, but close enough that you can go home on holidays or for family matters pretty easily.
I remember hearing during the Frozen Four how Bobby Brink wanted to face a new challenge, go somewhere different. I can respect that in someone. Except if you choose to go to Grand Forks. There is no reason to go to school there except to become an aeronautical engineer.
I really don't see Duluth as a nice college town. It seems weird up on that hill away from the city.

DUDE…LOL…do U have any idea how many Twin Cities kids attend UMD & have for the past 50 years? I’m not implying Duluth is a city you necessarily want to live in long term, but it’s a fun city to attend college & obviously a great city to visit for a weekend or two, if U don’t get that, you probably haven’t visited Duluth during the summer and/or fall seasons! 😉
I didn't even go to Duluth, but I spent lots of time on the campus and in the city during college. You're nuts if you don't think it's a good college town.

I do. The number of people who attend doesn’t affect my opinion.
I like Duluth (and the area) for a day or two. I’ve been there lots. A couple times this spring). But, to me, it seems like it would not be a good college town up there on the hill.
Isaac Howard, UMD’s top incoming freshman from NTDP (he’s from Hudson, WI) goes 31st overall to the Bolts!

He had an umm, interesting interview after the draft was finished. I guess this young man is not short on confidence…
The kid showed personality. By the numbers, he led the NTDP U17 team (last year) and NTDP U18 team (this year) in points. He’s a pure scorer. Several NTDP forwards (besides Uber talented Cooley) were drafted ahead of him, maybe that spurred his “steal of the draft” comment But…as the Kid Rock song goes…it ain’t bragged #%…if you back it up! AND he’s going to a school where he will need to back it up to earn prime ice time. And obviously the same goes for eventually hitting the ice playing for the Bolts.

I'm sure when the "humble" Duluth radio PxP guy interviews him they will both discuss how great they are.. lol

Apparently came down to Denver, Harvard and Minnesota. Oh well.
The #Badgers get their second commitment out of this year's junior class from Chanhassen, Minn., forward Gavin Uhlenkamp. He had four points in five games at Select 16 camp this year.

Big one off the board. This one hurts but makes sense with his brother there. Still have a very very good class for this age group!

Better to choose the real UND and not the cesspool to the west if he isn’t coming here.

Wow. MSU flips former Mich goalie recruit. This is the Spartans 4th NTDP guy since Nightangale has taken over as coach. I always thought the Spartans were a sleeping giant and if this new coach wakes them up, the Big Ten could be a scary good conference.

Good get for WMU. Pat Ferschweiler recruiting Minnesota kids pretty heavy. Smart move.
Michigan State has been stockpiling a good group of recruits ever since Aug 1. Maybe not this year but once these recruits hit campus the Spartans are hopefully gonna actually be a challenging team. Good for the conference.

Good player off the board. Vermont continues their recent trend of recruiting (and landing) good players from the state of hockey under their new coach. Smart plan for them.

Not EVERY Hermantown (D1 level player) goes to UMD, see Hobey Baker award winner Drew LeBlanc, among a few others ?
^Seeing Coach Gadowsky at an Elite League game a few weekends ago makes more sense after seeing that commitment.
Looking at the U17 roster and I might've missed it but I don't recall seeing the Nick Kempf to Notre Dame commitment anywhere on social media. He looked really good in that first game the U17s played in the NAHL showcase.
