Like most, assumed he was a UMD lock. Great get for the Irish.
I just don't get the draw of Notre Dame for hockey. It's a good school but so are many others. It's also in Indiana.
I just do not understand.

The religious draw of Notre Dame is pretty significant for some players.
And, let's be honest, from a standpoint of connections/name recognition/etc, other than Harvard and Yale, what school out there really competes? Plus, you're less than two hours from Chicago, closer than even WisconSIN is.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

If you're expecting these guys to land a job on Wall Street and flaunt the Notre Dame name, then I could see a small advantage. But I hire people from time to time and if I saw Notre Dame on the resume vs Michigan or Minnesota, it would not help them AT ALL. But I work in pharma which isn't as stuck up with college names as Wall Street.
Personally I don't see most of these player looking for upper echelon careers.
I can see Vegoe's point of it helping to be a Catholic School.
It’s just a big brand. It’s always been a bit of a draw whether the program was successful or not. Now that they’re getting a coach who might try to score goals it’s paying off in recruiting.
Kade Stengrim to St. Cloud
Logan Lutner to Denver. Ouch.
I bet this isn't the only time he changes schools... People were questioning why Bob passed....

This is a huge domino to fall. As I understand it, CHL players are basically fair game at this point.
There's a proposed Class Action for a lawsuit that was filed, but hasn't even been heard yet, much less decided. This is a huge domino to fall. As I understand it, CHL players are basically fair game at this point.
Unless something changed in the background that I haven't heard about, CHL players aren't allowed. I'm presuming this "commitment" is solely intended to give the suit in question an actual example of someone that the NCAA has refused to allow let play.

Sorry-- late to the game. Busy weekend!
There is a class action currently filed against the NCAA by CHL players on antitrust grounds saying that it is unfair restraint of trade by not allowing CHL players to play college hockey. Essentially that the NCAA allows Swedish/Finnish/Czech players to participate but not CHL players to do so, and that is unfair. The NCAA identified this as a potential issue last year but declined to address it-- in my estimation because I still don't think the CHL case is that strong.
If you review the 10th Circuit's O'Bannon decision, which opened up the floodgates with NIL and the NCAA, I don't buy the CHL argument. The Court there indicated the NCAA could still set eligibility rules related to their sport itself-- but just not do so with items that are unrelated to the sport. So a player who gets money for running a camp outside of their work as a student-athlete should be allowed, but the NCAA would still be free to dictate a player only gets 4 years of eligibility. That allowed for NIL activities by players-- but still restricted pay-for-play. And the basis of the O'Bannon decision was antitrust.
Essentially that means the NCAA has jurisdiction to determine rules of the games it plays-- provided the rules are connected with the sport themselves. Certainly, restriction of competition with professionals fits that bill. Just because they allow it from Finland or Sweden doesn't mean the NCAA has to allow it from Canada too.
So I don't think the case is that compelling. Certainly the NCAA is on a Court losing streak, but that doesn't automatically mean this is a winner either.
In any event, that the House lawsuit settlement is in jeopardy may make it all moot anyway. If that case doesn't settle I am unsure if the NCAA even survives to oversee hockey. NCAA schools will not proceed allowing booster clubs to effectively control their athletic departments.
Not a huge surprise as his brother went that route, but he is a great prospect. Played at Shattuck's and Chan/Chaska bantam AA.
Edit-- Original tweet was deleted, so here is another one. He was committed to Denver.

I would expect he is betting that CHL prospects remain eligible. I would think Denver will go after his brother as well.

These days you never know, but his brother will be 20 this year and was drafted by the Panthers so I expect his brother to go pro and not even consider college. I don't know the family, but it appears they are very "hands on" with their son's hockey careers and reminds me of another hockey family that the Gophers staff dealt with.

Denver got Berchild...
That one stings.
Officially not a great recruiting cycle
Anybody got any insight to why Bob didn’t close the deal? This one is disappointing
Other than that Denver is the trendy option right now? Idk
Does it sting? Yes. But I still have 100% confidence in the direction of this program under Bob, unlike a sky is falling person over on Gopherhole who is comparing this to Lucia's final years. Bob has proven in his tenure that he knows how to build a team, and unfortunately he has come up short in the final game of the year. We just need for the NHL to hire David Carle and get him out of Denver.

I mean I’d imagine it’s Carle. He’s young and probably the best coach in college hockey at one of the most prestigious schools in the country. There’s going to be a lot of kids who end up there from all over the country, including kids he’s already got committed from the east coast in spite of those that believe they only sign at BC/BU
Does David Carle want to coach in the NHL?
he’s talked about leaving before but wanted to get #10. Would envision it will be his way to play in the NHL like he never could
I think something also of note is Carle coached the WJC and won that as well. Going to put good words in the ears of lots of guys around that age as well. Can 100% see why any kid would want to play at DU right now
Plus he's won 3 of the last 7 natty's. That is a big recruitment tool.
I mean the guy is the best coach and hottest name in college hockey regardless of how many titles you give him.
Can't really fault a kid for wanting to play at Denver right now.
Good player but doubt he got an offer from us
If he picked ust then yeah he didn’t get an offer here or any other major program
Noah Kosick a MI commit has left Sioux City to join Calgary of the WHL, but there is speculation that the potential new CHL rules played a factor here and he will likely still make his way to MI in the future. Zach Morin (BU commit) left Youngstown a couple weeks ago with potentially the same dynamic.
I’m seeing a lot of rosey outlook on this rule changes not having a large affect on the USHL but I’m not sure if I totally agree. The USHL has benefitted greatly from high end draft picks choosing their league to give them the flexibility of keeping their NCAA eligibility. If their eligibility is there with the CHL then I think the USHL could miss out on some of those high end players.
I gotta believe that the new rules will suck all of the high end talent out of the USHL, and most of it from the NCAA. The NCAA will slowly turn into the AHL
If you recall, the only team Musser followed was the Gophers for most of his recruiting. Idk, you can’t really argue with the results Bob has had with his older goalie philosophy, but knowing we would’ve had an NTDP goalie had we offered stings.

Landen Gunderson flips to Notre Dame. They might actually be relevant again once Jackson leaves and the new guy takes over.

get used to it. I think all of college hockey will be moving in that direction.21 year old freshman. Hastings has his groove on.
