If you had asked me 5 years ago who would have more NHL points as of today, Wheeler or Oshie...
And Goli has carved himself a solid career as well - perhaps more so than many would have wagered?

How about Okposo surpassing Oshie and having 1 more as of today?

Goligoski already having more career points than Leopold was surprising to me.
Schmitty twangs the twine tonight.
Nate Schmidt has an assist today. He is turning into a decent NHL player. Not bad for a guy who was made a forward for a season in college.

Nate with 2 helpers today.

See, there's hope for Jack Glover.

Notes: Okposo has already surpassed Holmgren and will pass Ramsey for 7th by season's end barring a catstrophe. E.J. is currently tied with Millen and will likely finish the season around Nanne for 14th. Nick Leddy is the closest active who misses and has an outside chance of passing Craig Johnson this season, but will likely need some of next season to reach the top 20.
Interesting that despite scoring being down the last several years how many on this list are more recent players.
Ness has played this year and OB is playing for the Devils right now
Ness back to the minors.
Skjei was known as probably the best pure skater in his draft. He did this the other night.
[gfycat:27mdsnqe]GrimyGlamorousAfricanjacana[/gfycat:27mdsnqe]
Helgeson back up to New Jersey with John Moore injured.
Bjugy with a tally panthers rolling.
Boyd is tied for 4th in rookie points in the AHL after a hat trick Saturday.
Mike Reilly was named TSN's 14th-best NHL prospect.
As for non-Gopher Minnesotans, Boeser is 20th.
By Craig Button lol
check out the wheeler bergeron scrap on pro hockey talk.
Brett Strot will serve as an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2016 IIHF Women's World Championship. The full roster will be announced next Wednesday.
Kyle Rau called up to Panthers
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
I know they won't but kids should look at Reilly, Skjei, and Rau as staying the perfect amount of time.
Rau getting lots of love on Panthers pregame show. They also talked to Bjugstad about him.

Good luck to Kyle tonight.
Rau skating with Bjugstad now that Jonathan Huberdeau is hurt. He was also on the ice with Bjugstad and Jagr at one point.

This game on tv?

Rau played a good game. Played 15 minutes, some PP time, and was blocking the goalie's vision on one of the Panthers goal. Florida plays the Wild next Sunday. Hope he stays with the squad and gets a chance to play at the X.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
Surprised a new call up like Rau would be thrown out there on the power play for his first night on the big stage. Glad to hear he played well.
Skjei called up again.
Check out the highlights from Kyle Rau's NHL debut. :dup:

Same player, different uniform. :biggrin2:

Man, they said Rau's name about as often as they said Jagr's in that highlight - good to see him making an impact, will always be one of my favorite Gophers
They even paired Bjugs and Rau together, on the powerplay, even. :dup:
And they mentioned "look where Kyle Rau was"... in his normal place next to the crease on the PP
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

They have a ton of forwards injured right now. I hope he sticks , but my guess he will be shipped back down at some point. I watched the whole game, and the announcers raved about him the whole game. The PxP guy even tweeted his OT GWG from the state high school tourney. Rau's parents happen to be on vacation in Florida at the time and he stayed with them. He said if he sticks, he will be moving in with Bjugstad.

Didn't watch the video yet but on the goal he was screening the goalie. I don't remember him doing that at the U and was surprised. Maybe my memory is bad but ya I remember him just off the crease.
Looks like after the goal, Smith asks "did you tip that?" and Rau shakes his head. Good for Rau, always liked him here!
Budish and Fasching tended to be the main screen guys on the PP
Skjei played 22:17 and it sounds like he looked good.

22:17 is a huge game....
Led all Rangers in that category.
That's why I figured it was worth posting :good2:
Florida has acquired 2 forwards in trades today, so my guess Rau will be sent back to the minors. Hopefully he can at least get to play on Sunday in St Paul before that happens. He is playing today vs the Jackets.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
Rau and Bjugstad started at the X.
Vanek made Team Europe for the World Cup of Hockey. Wheeler made Team USA.
Kyle Rau gets to play with Jagr and Barkov tonight for Florida.

In conjuction with this post giving the point leaders and the State Tournament in full array, I'd thought I'd give the rest of the all-time scoring and games leaders from the state.

040 503 Dan Hinote; Elk River, Elk River HS, RW, NHL: 1999-2004, 2005-2009
Note: Alex Goligoski, Patrick Eaves, Erik Johnson, Kyle Okposo, and T.J. Oshie passed the mark earlier this season.
I have the top scoring single-seasons that I'll post, as well, but I think I'll wait until the end of the regular season being this late. To date, there are 178 50 point, 110 20 goal, and 301 20 assist seasons with more likely added by season's end.
I'm having a heck of a time manually formatting all the rankings to the site. :censored:
I'm doing all this manually, so let me know of any typos, updates, or other corrections I need to make.
To summarize the top of the above lists and put things in perspective, many of us grew-up looking at Neal Broten as the local guy to admire and wished we were. Phil Housley scored 29 fewer assists than Neal Broten had points. Neal sits comfortably in second place in-between Housley and Dave Christian meaning Phil Housley just about Wayne Gretzky'd the state. For the record, Housley had 23 assists in his final season.
Skjei's back up with the Rangers, but on emergency basis.
Gophers vs. badgers vs. Whioux in the NHL
Gophers
18 players with appearances (9F, 9D)
702 GP - 111 G (.158 GPG) - 335 PTS (.477 PPG)
Two 50 points scorers in Wheeler and Okposo
One 20 goal scorer in Kessel (Wheeler 18, Vanek 18, Okposo 17)
badgers
19 players with appearances (9 F, 9D, 1G)
859 GP - 123 G (.143 GPG) - 339 PTS (.395 PPG)
One 60 point scorer in Pavelski
One 30 goal scorer in Pavelski (Smith 18)
Whioux
14 players with appearances (11 F, 3D)
647 GP - 127 G (.196 GPG) - 274 PTS (.423 PPG)
No 50 points scorers (Parise 48)
Three 20 goal scorers in Toews, Oshie, and Nelson (Parise 19, Stafford 17)
So the Gophers are four points back in the total point race. They have the highest points per game of the three teams. The badgers have the most games by far. The Whioux are putting better goal scorers into the NHL (Hello, Boeser), but barely any D recently.
