Really cool to see Holl net a goal. Seems like he's been up and down between NHL and AHL a lot the last few years. Just can't quite crack the lineup on a consistent basis in the NHL but he will always be one of my favorite Gophers because of 0.6!

Edit: I was thinking of Mark Alt when I wrote this ??

This was actually his debut in the NHL.

Maybe thinking of Helgeson? He also has one goal in his NHL career.

I know it was his actual debut. But he'd been called up to the NHL lineup a handful of times with Philly and never gotten on the ice. That was what I was referring to.

Nah I've followed Helgeson's career relatively closely (mostly due to the NHL video games where I create all-Gopher teams). I just worded my post poorly. I meant he's been called up to the big squad a few times, not that he's played a lot. I know he got called up by the Flyers a handful of times but never saw the ice.

IIRC Holl's dad was wearing a 0.6 shirt for the National Championship against Union. Hilarious move by him. Definitely a Justin Holl fan here :dup: :dup: :dup:

Holl rapidly shooting up the NHL goal charts for Gophers since 13-14:

Skjei 8

Holl 2

Rau 2

Reilly 2

Lettieri 1

Fasching 1

Kloos 0

Boyd 0

That team was stacked for a college team even if only Skjei is having a big impact in the NHL.

Former Maverick, Casey Nelson, started seeing some icetime on the #1 Defensive pair for the Sabres and scored his first NHL goal last night. Most here probably don't remember him too much, but he was one of the prize college free agents two years ago.

I think he signed around the same time as Fasching.

Pionk is up and playing with the Rangers already.

Yep, pretty much got overshadowed because Fasching signed at the same time. It was probably within a week of each other.

It may be best for both parties if they trade him.

It won't be best overall for the Wild but it will be for Mike. No doubt.

The Wild have to move Reilly or Olfsson at some point at this point in their careers. Not sure how that hurts the Wild?

It isn't the Wilds fault neither player has made this an obvious decision, neither guy is proving to be leaps and bounds above the other. Although Olfsson is playing better as of late. And it isn't the Wilds fault Reilly is less than adequate in the d zone.

Plus if the Wild aren't going to let him touch the ice in the playoffs what is the point of keeping him?

Isn't the Wild's fault? Really? Who were they slotted to play with to start the year? (Quincey, AKA Worthless) Who decided to force Reilly up when he was still eligible to get top minutes in Iowa for a while longer? Who said that when Brodin got hurt that Reilly wouldn't be looking over his shoulder anymore, to only turn around and replace him after two games?

Don't pretend they gave him a shot. It's not true. If they want to trade him, trade him. But he'll be the next abysmal defensemen trade Chuck has made. Right behind Burns and Leddy. Maybe this time they'll actually get something, but I doubt it.

You are right. The Wild have it out for Reilly and haven't given him a single shot over the last three years to prove that he can play a lick of D zone. Or go play along the wall and come out with the puck or take an opponent off of it.

He shouldn't have had to look over his shoulder but the fact of the matter he is brutal in the dzone. So because of that Seeler gets a shot. Bruce's quotes about the Seeler call up say it all.

There are 46 Mn born players so far this year per http://www.quanthockey.com/nhl/state-totals/nhl-players-2017-18-stats.html

U of Mn has 23 players that have played in NHL this year , Michigan 21 , Whioux 19 per Vegoe's tweet from 7 hours ago.

Being able to shoot the puck is a skill that can keep in you the NHL for a long time.
