Pretty nice to play your first game with Malkin too. Pretty awesome seeing the second goal with Kessel and Malkin coming down and Guentzel on the far side. I have to say if that were my kid I might have passed out. I thought Mike was going to. Good for them. Pure joy. Can't beat it.

Actually.... for the second goal, it looked like Mike had been up grabbing a drink and had gotten back to the top of the stairwell after the puck dropped... you can see him walking down the row during the celebration.

Leddy just scored a dirty SO goal in round 14 to win it for NYI. Round 14.

young Jake with another tally
Starting to track Gopher pro points again for the year. Usually I compare to uw and UND but this year isn't looking great so I'm not going to start that yet.
11 forwards in the NHL and AHL is a continued decrease that's been happening year after year. The Gophers haven't been producing forwards for that level.
Defense continues to be better than offense. Your six full time NHLers are now Leddy, Goligoski, EJ, Martin, Schmidt, and Skjei. AHL you have Reilly, Ness, Helgeson, Holl, Alt (hurt), Bickel, and Seeler.
I'll also point out all of these players were drafted except Schmidt and Bickel. Not sure what the proportion of the AHL overall that was drafted is.
I know Alt was in the opening lineup for PHI, did they ship him down after G1 or did he get hurt right away?
Curious too what was the F count last season? Per this link it was also 11: http://www.gophersports.com/sports/m-hockey/spec-rel/minn-m-hockey-nhl.htm l"> http://www.gophersports.com/sports/m-hockey/spec-rel/minn-m-hockey-nhl.html
I think Alt was on the "opening roster" in an IR spot.
My stuff is pretty manual but my forward counts with at least one appearance in the NHL/AHL are:
16-17: 11
15-16: 14
14-15: 14
13-14: 16
12-13: 17
11-12: 15
10-11: 18
I added a link late to my previous post, but it showed 11 F played in the NHL last year (therefor not listing those that were in the AHL only). Not sure what that will be this year, but in total (NHL/AHL) could the current count at 11 grow or are there no former F in a place where they could promote to either league?

Where did you see 11? My counts are AHL and NHL.
NHL only was 10 F last year and 9 so far this year.

I don't really see any forwards that will get a shot in the AHL mid season. Boyd could get called up to WSH.
I like to include AHL cuz that's often the guys that just left school and are developing for the NHL.
I caught the error - the link listed Skjei as a F and I was only looking at the position not the name.
Nick Seeler:
[youtube:3poyslll]
That guy came from the blue line for that cheap hit. And got murdered by Seeler for it. Don't love the extra punch when the guy is down and out, though.
I don't think he actually tried to connect when the other player was down, and if you look closely as soon as Seeler realized the player was out he stopped and got out of there.
Wow, I like Seeler, but that is just scary. Not necessarily what I'd like to be known for in the pros, especially if you seriously hurt people. And the risk of concussions - yikes.
I understand the need to stand up for yourself or your teammates, but man he looks like he's out for blood sometimes.
Not sure if the guy got K'od by the fist or the ice....hope he didn't hit his head on the ice.
I have no problem with Seeler going after a guy who skates from center ice to put someone through the glass. I think the thing with Seeler is that his temper goes from 0 to 100 in a split second, and he doesn't always make the right decision. He obviously had his blood up here, but this is a case of just going hard in a fight.
He was back at it the next night. This kid has a death wish.

Looked more like a dance than a fight.
Apparently he's been in four fights in the last month! He's well on his way to being a goon! :club:
Could the second one have been payback for the first fight where the guy got KOed? It was the same team.

That was my thought too.
Wilcox got his first pro shutout tonight for AHL Syracuse, making 25 saves against Rochester in a 4-0 win.

I see where he scored his first goal of the season on Tuesday, against Buffalo. Hopefully many more to follow.
For those who have the sports package on Dish or DirecTV, the Florida Panthers have a half hour show, Inside Panthers Hockey. The latest episode follows Bjugstad's journey, from mites, to high school to the U. They interview Lucia and Haula for it.
