Why not eat half of Foligno and Dumba's contracts and get decent draft picks for them?
I'm guessing the reason they're not moving these players is because decent draft picks aren't being offered.
Doesn't sound like Dumba is high up on the wish list for teams looking to add help on the blue line.
"As one scout told Joe Smith last month, there are several defensemen available and Dumba is “one of the last guys” teams looking at those players talk about. The scout noted Dumba could be a fifth or sixth defenseman on a winning team, but there are times when he takes too many penalties and makes too many turnovers."

Not according to the guys making trades...but I'm sure they are all mistaken.
Dumba is vastly overrated locally.

Show them to the rest of the NHL including Guerin - apparently you're onto something NO ONE else has figured out.
What are you on about? You think that nobody in the NHL knows that Dumba is a better player than Orlov? You think that Evason is accidentally playing Dumba more than any of his other defenseman? What are you trying to say?I could show you all of the numbers, but you still wouldn't understand any of it. GMs are salivating over the chance to trade for Dumba but no matter how many draft picks they offer Guerin refuses. ?
Does anyone know the best place to get a current Wild line chart?
I don’t follow the Wild closely but IIRC Dumba was a healthy scratch in January and now according to J22 he is being played as #1 D. Maybe the Wild are showcasing him in hopes of snagging an offer above market value?
Does he go back to a healthy scratch after the deadline?

Despite being "scratched" for two games Dumba has played 1063 minutes at 5X5. The next closest wild player to that number is Spurgeon at 948. that breaks down to 18:39 per game for Dumba and 16:05 for Spurgeon. Last year the numbers were 17:48 for Dumba and 14:43 for Spurgeon. Dumba is 19th in the entire NHL for 5X5 time on ice among all skaters. 15th if you break it down by per game numbers.
Saying that he is being "showcased" is beyond silly.
It’s just seems odd to healthy scratch your top D.
Even more odd to put him right back into the top role after doing so. Reminds me of how Fiala was treated last year. Also makes me think that the "coaching decision" wasn't coming from the coaching staff. It’s just seems odd to healthy scratch your top D.
Supposedly fighting for your playoff lives, at home against the worst team in the league...and down 2-0 halfway through the game. ?
Kaprisov straps the team on his back, scores a hat trick to beat Columbus 3-2.
Yup. Kaprizov 3 - Columbus 2Kaprisov straps the team on his back, scores a hat trick to beat Columbus 3-2.
Kaprizov buried it so hard and the puck came out, I thought at first the goalie saved it.
Keep your stick on the ice...
A couple of former Gophers on the list.

Again?!?!
I firmly contend he was the worst player on the ice anytime he was on the ice for the Wild. I cannot stand his play.
I'd rather have the 3rd round pick...
Not sure what having a guy who is constantly injured and scores maybe 10 goals a year does to help the wild.

it’s the Minnesota thing, all of MN pro teams make stupid moves like this
Aloha!
It made me sad to see that this is the guy that Guerin grabbed. It makes me really sad to know that Johansson is most likely an upgrade to the forwards. The problem is that I don't have much faith in Evason putting players where they belong. Hopefully if works out

It would be really difficult for him to be worse than the way Greenway is playing this year... But maybe he could give him a run for his money...
Maybe they have a handshake deal, and Guerin can resign him for 2 more seasons while scratching him regularly because we need the depth...

Greenway has 6 points this year.. SIX ... and is scoreless in the last 21 games....
Justin Holl has twice as many points...
Greenway has been a major disappointment, and overslept, making him miss a game this year. He needs to go.

I'm more than fine with Greenway going, just pointing out that Foligno is the bigger problem right now. There's a reason that Gadreau/Duhaime are looking better than Eriksson Ek/Boldy right now.Greenway has 6 points this year.. SIX ... and is scoreless in the last 21 games....

We have another trade.. although he is injured and hopes to play by the end of the year.

This one is just weird. Nyquist is a good player though
Brings a big smile to my face seeing Hudson Fasching play top minutes in the NHL. Glad to see it finally clicking for him. Wouldn’t even mind if he scored against the Wild.
Will he replace Reaves in the playoffs? This one is just weird. Nyquist is a good player though
Cheering for Fasching comes easy once you meet his folks and know the story behind his siblings.
Keep your stick on the ice...
Reaves shouldn't even sniff the lineup for the playoffs. Will he replace Reaves in the playoffs? This one is just weird. Nyquist is a good player though
Nyquist is a better player than Johansson, but I don't know how you have a guy come back from injury, on a brand new team, during the playoffs? Neither Nyquist or Johansson are good fits for a checking role either, but one of them will likely have to do it.
Zuccarello - Hartman - Kaprizov
Boldy - Eriksson Ek - ?
? - Gadreau - ?
? - Dewar - ?
Nyquist, Johansson, Greenway, Foligno, Duhaime, Shaw to fill in the question marks. Just seems like it will leave Gadreau's line with neither much offense or defense.
Two points courtesy of Filip Gustavsson.
The Wild are one point behind 1st place Dallas.
Two points from having the best record in the Western Conference. Also only two points from 8th place in the West. The Wild are one point behind 1st place Dallas.
I seem too remember a lot of the GMs around here wondering how the Wild would make the playoffs...there must be a glitch in the standings!

Saw tonight Reaves' goal was his FIRST for the Wild--and Greenway had his FIRST POINT in 21 games. Wow, what a couple of holes in the line up.
Over the last 15 games Greenway has been on the ice for 6 goals for at 5X5. Foligno and Ek have 0. Saw a stat on another board that says the Wild haven't scored a 5X5 goal with out one of Kaprizov(10) or Greenway(6) on the ice, in over 700 minutesReaves shouldn't even sniff the lineup for the playoffs. Will he replace Reaves in the playoffs? This one is just weird. I'm shocked how open the western conference is this year -- I wonder how much of it is real and how much of it is teams tanking for Bedard. I feel like we hear less from Wild Owner Craig Leipold these days than earlier in his ownership, but always remember that a lot of teams get out of the red by making a playoff run selling big $$$ tickets.
It is way too early to judge the trade/not resigning Fiala.
We first need to see how Faber and the 2022 first round pick (Liam Ohgren) they got from the Kings turn out.
When a team has cap issues tough/less than ideal moves need to be made.
I love people saying they should have moved the guys who were under producing/over paid to open up salary cap space for Fiala. Yes other teams are gladly going to take those guys just to help the Wild keep Fiala. Not ?
Did Fiala even want to stay here?
How about that trade Guerin made for Gustavsson (who has currently taken over as the #1 goalie starting 8 of the past 12 games)? Man did Guerin hit a home run there. ?
Both these situations are early but when you get the younger players (which happened in both trades) to hit on either of them this early is a success.
Next season (Faber) or in a few seasons (Ohgren) we might be saying man I am sure glad they are on the team.
Time will tell.
I will start missing Fiala if he starts showing up in the playoffs.
I will start missing Fiala if he starts showing up in the playoffs.
If the Wild make the playoffs as first-round cannon fodder again, it would be like any other past season with Parise, Suter, Fiala et al.—and those guys were brought in to win a Cup.
Guerin could be congratulated for repeating this failure without those guys while building a team for the future.
I seem too remember a lot of the GMs around here wondering how the Wild would make the playoffs...there must be a glitch in the standings!
I'll bite.
I still wonder, to an extent. The main reason they are where they are is due to Kaprizov, and the outstanding play of Gustavsson. Without those 2 guys, this is easily a bottom 10 team, if not bottom 5. With them, they are slightly above average. But that is saying something, that 2 guys can account for 10-12 positions in the standings.
After last year having 3-4 older players have career seasons they were unlikely to repeat, and losing 33 goals from Kevin Fiala and not really adding anyone. I wondered how this team was going to score any goals. And so far, they've proved me right in that sense. They've scored 177 goals in 61 games - 2.90 goals per game. Last season they scored 310 goals in 82 games - 3.78 goals per game. So they are scoring at nearly 1 goal per game slower pace, on pace for 238 goals this season, 72 goals less than last year. I figured that kind of goal scoring would keep them from the playoffs, with an aging and declining MAF. I assumed they'd be scratching and clawing for the last playoff position at the end of the season (like a lot of Wild seasons) but just miss out this year. Last year Dallas scored 233 goals and made the playoffs, they were the only team with less than 250 goals scored to make it.
I did not expect Gustavsson to hold a .930 sv% and a 2.06 GAA and become the #1 goalie. I cannot imagine anyone expected that. I really doubt Guerin predicted that when he acquired him. I assume he was hoping MAF would be his #1 and Gus would be a capable backup, that would cause less 'noise' than keeping Talbot. (Especially since they kept playing MAF even the last several weeks when it was clear Gus had surpassed him as the #1 goalie...) Last year they gave up 253 goals in 82 games, or 3.09 goals per game. This year they've given up 167 goals in 61 games, or 2.74 goals per game, on pace for 225 goals allowed. So they are allowing .35 goals per game less. I did not see that happening. Good on Guerin for getting him. I still don't understand a lot of what he has done (like resigning Goligoski to a multi year deal after scratching him), but I am not a GM.
Last year they scored .69 Goals per game more than they allowed. This year it is "only" .16 more for than against.
I am still having a hard time seeing how this team gets out of the first round, but Gus looks like he might actually be capable of stealing a game. But who knows. Dubnyk played lights out for a season and a half in the regular season and then was mediocre at best in the playoffs. Can Gus keep it up in the playoffs? Hopefully we get to find out.

Of course Fiala wanted to stay here. Twice Guerin told him to earn a long term deal. Twice Fiala did exactly that.
Care to remind us how Guerin ended up having to trade for Gustavsson? It certainly wasn't in his plans.
