Watching a press conference on MLB Network on the changes. Their main emphasis on restricting the shift was to “showcase player athleticism” which is a load of shit. They also said restricting the shift is what the fans want…doh’kay. And it’s not purely the shift, you also can’t have infielders positioned on the outfield grass, must have 4 on the dirt at all times.
The interesting parts on the pitch clock are the batter only gets one time out per at bat and the pitcher can only throw over to a base 2 times per at bat. The minor league stats they showed with and without were interesting and they showed a 5 pitch sequence where the one with the clock was 40 seconds quicker…that’s crazy.
The pitch com thing is also wild.
God forbid that instead of a pitch count they cut back on the length of time between innings. Yeah I know that's never going to happen.

I think they did that too. It said 2 min 15 seconds between innings, I assumed that was shorter.
Pitchers used to go 7 or 8 innings regularly, throw over a 100 pitches and games were much faster than today. Why are pitchers so much less durable now?
if you want to speed up the game, get rid of the damn tv commercials. Problem solved! 😉

Oh good - I missed that part.

Showcase "athleticism" by showing that professional ballplayers can HIT THROUGH THE SHIFT.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

Because pitchers are throwing with max effort a lot more frequently is the simple answer. The more detailed answer is too long to type on my phone.
At least the Twins aren't this bad:

Pujols hits #s 699 & 700.

FTR, while the video is funny, the pitch resulted in ball 4.

Looking at the stats, didn't fully math it, but it looks right:
Aaron Judge has struck out 167 times so far this season... Tony Gwynn struck out 167 times in the 90s.

In his entire 20-year career, Gwynn struck out 434 times. I wouldn't doubt it.

His stats are mind blowing. And from everything I’ve heard he was a world class person. He was taken from us too soon.

It's not true but it isn't far off.
From 1990-1999 his strikeout totals were: 23, 19, 16, 19, 19, 15, 17, 28, 18, 14. A total of 188 strikeouts in 4981 at bats with 389 walks too.
I believe the Cardinals were 93-0 when leading by 2+ in the 9th inning in the postseason (all time).
They gave up 6 runs in the 9th today to lose 6-3.
MLB pitchers put Frank’s Red Hot on their ears to “zone in”? Now I’ve heard it all. I don’t think that’s what they meant by the tagline “I put that shit on everything”

Maybe they use it to get their nose running…
Seattle just got screwed on a "HBP" call. Ball didn't waver a bit, but the ump said it hit him on the hand (game is in Seattle, before anyone says "homer call")

And it didn't affect the inning, thank goodness. That call loaded the bases with 2 outs, next guy popped out.

This HOU/SEA game is sick. Genius pitching duel.

Still a gem of a game in Seattle. I actually made a bet with a buddy in the 13th, that this game will go under 16 innings.

I tuned in for the Yankees game and that may end before this Seattle scoreless tie.

Zero HR, for those scoring at home.
Hits: 15 (combined)
Innings played: 16 and counting.

I’m a little salty because I’m jealous. I miss watching a fun team I actually like this time of year.

I hear ya, but I also do enjoy watching a good game (or games) with no bias, like today. Those games were, as the kids say, fire.

Padres hang 5 up in bottom 7 to take a 5-3 lead.
3 outs away from beating the best team in baseball.
San Diego has the Rally Duck...just saying

488 feet and 120mph exit velocity. Both are insane. 5th hardest hit HR since they began tracking exit velo in 2015, hardest hit HR in the playoffs. IIRC it was the 3rd hardest hit ball of the season (the other two did not go over the fence, as usually balls hit that squarely don't have the launch angle to get high enough to carry out). I don't remember seeing many balls hit into the upper deck in San Diego, if any. That is an absolute bomb.
He absolutely DESTROYED that ball.
Darvish's reaction is just funny

Didn't even bother looking, he knew it was gone.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
I like Harper’s reaction as well. Shades of Delmon Young.

A standard field isn't enough for these guys! That's a terrific shot!
Teams often shift against Schwarber he should be bunting. ?
It looked like the Astros were pitching around Stanton at 3-0 and he ends up striking out to end the inning.
also how the hell does Stanton make contact much less hit HRs out of that stance?

He changed his stance a few years ago (if you look at his stance when he first broke into the big leagues he was very square on with the pitcher). The pictures below are all from the same season (2017).
https://twitter.com/_dadler/status/899682806846164992?s=20&t=rFPn2xD-4SZYzqmFzwIrDQ
When he was squared on with the pitcher he had a tendency to fly open too early, particularly on breaking balls on the outer half of the plate. By closing his stance he has forced his hip rotation and stride to go into the pitch instead of fading away from it (if you've coached little kids you've probably heard the term "stepping in the bucket" which is what he had a tendency to do). So he started slowly closing his stance to try to stay on the ball better for pitches on the outer half of the plate.
The closed stance he has adopted allows him to stay on the ball longer and fights his tendency to fly open too quickly, but still allows him to turn on the inside pitch because he's so freaking strong and his hands are still so quick. He's also shockingly flexible for a guy his size to be able to rotate as quickly and fully as he does through the zone with his front leg blocked off that far.
His little toe tap he does as the ball is released allows him to slightly adjust his stride and timing to stay on plane with the pitch a little bit longer, particularly on soft stuff away so oftentimes he's not quite as closed at contact as he is before the pitch is delivered.
It will be interesting to see, particularly as he gets older, if the decreased flexibility that comes with age will cause him to go back to a more standard stance.
Set aside the hatred for the teams involved, but this has been a heck of a post-season. Really good ball being played.

I’ve been so busy in part due to a class I’m taking this fall that I really haven’t been able to watch any baseball playoffs. I do miss it. At this moment I’d even have to look up who’s left.
I’m a bad baseball fan this year. 🙁
The WS will be dud... Philly vs. Houston.
Keep your stick on the ice...

How long have you been a T.V. executive now?
The Yankees lost in four games?
Phillies rally from down 5-0 and win 6-5 in extra innings. Houston had tying and winning runs in scoring position in bottom 10 but Diaz grounded out to end the game.
