Funny none of you guys will give them credit for beefing up the bullpen by bringing in another arm at the trade deadline.
What was his name again?
Technically that guy they brought in had two arms, neither of which could pitch.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
The problem the Twins usually have isn't front end talent...they usually have a good lineup and solid pitching. That is why they go on fun runs and fellators like Aaron Gleeman go bonkers on stats and such pushing the narrative they have a chance. They do as long as everyone stays healthy. The cheapness of the owners hurts the team in depth and it bites them every year. You cannot count on the farm system to bail you out every time Buxton needs two weeks off or a pitcher has a strain along with other players needing time off. Maybe you can replace one or two guys but how often is it only one or two? You need good bench players and you need a few of them or a bad week of injuries can lead to a collapse.
The funny thing is the team used to thrive to almost the same success level on depth as a means to compensate for a lack of top to bottom talent. They would one of two good to great players and plug and play a lot of decent players to complement them. Made the season fun but killed us in the playoffs. We as fans begged for more talent and spending more money...they brought in guys but instead of rounding out the team to make them great it became a replacement for depth. We nor resemble the 1990s Twins more than the Twins of recent vintage and will always keep us on the razors edge.
Surreal the way Twins offense has completely COLLAPSED
At least the Twins aren't wearing their Marlins hats tonight.
Surreal the way Twins offense has completely COLLAPSED
The irony is that they had some wins in the bank while waiting for Buxton and Carrera to come back. Then they collapsed.
It matters not. This team's pitching isn't good enough to move on. If they had Cleveland's bullpen they would be a solid team.
I’m half paying attention on the computer while at work.
Did I just see Lee do one of these after tying it up? 😂
The Twins are finding amazing ways to snatch defeat away from the jaws of victory tonight.

There’s not many extra innings (home) walk off scoring scenarios…the Twins aren’t capable of Fning up. Theyre so pathetic U just have to laugh. The Twins are finding amazing ways to snatch defeat away from the jaws of victory tonight.
Blewett. Didn't see this coming?

Hey.....if you're going to collapse in September make it an epic collapse, eh?

But the Twins 12th inning was the worst:
After Brooks Lee was intentionally walked, Jeffers popped up (more like line drived) a sac bunt attempt and (why in the hell is a 39 year old the xtra inning starting runner on 2nd, had to somebody younger & faster than Santana to pinch run) Santana was doubled off second base. Castro grounded out to send it to the 13th. (And Rocco’s explanation is arguably just as embarrassing as their futile play)
“Clearly, there’s something missing when we get guys on base,” Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said. “We’re really struggling. I cannot tell you exactly why. I’ve seen, been around, played with, managed teams that have struggled with periods of time with runners on base. We had base runners galore. They were everywhere, all night. But to win, you have to bring them in. And some of that is trying to do specific things with those types of at-bats because there are things you can do that can lead to scoring runs. They’re not all going to be doubles and homers.”
Thursday couldn’t have gone much worse for the Twins.
Go Tigers
An epic collapse. We were told Sept 1 they had a 90% chance of making the playoff.
Carrera, the star player who called out his team, didn't run out a ground ball he might have reached safely on. What a perfect ending for this underperforming team.
Rocco just wants to soft pedal everything, not least the biggest two-handed choke job in the club's history. He's was the captain of the ship when she hit the reef and deserves criticism. I'll take a manager who loses his cool over one who too easily rolls with the punches no matter how badly he's being pummeled.
From Gleeman:
Is the payroll dropping again?
Shortly after last season’s playoff run ended, Twins officials indicated the payroll would drop in 2024, putting in motion the step-by-step dismantling of roster quality and fan morale culminating in this mess 10 months later.
Slashing payroll by $30 million directly led to the front office’s low-wattage and largely unsuccessful offseason moves, as well as a trade deadline that provided zero help. While it would be nice — and some might argue, smart and logical — for ownership to recognize the damage they did and reverse course with a payroll increase to 2023 levels, that’s wishful thinking.
Revenues are well short of the team’s internal projections because Target Field attendance is about 300,000 lower than they hoped, the TV situation hasn’t improved and there won’t be any money from playoff games. If the Twins were willing to wreck last season’s goodwill and fan excitement over $30 million, it stands to reason more cuts could be coming.
Barring a shocking change of direction, and heart, by ownership, the best fans can probably hope for is a similar payroll for 2025. That would equal around $130 million to spend, leaving the front office with little wiggle room given the current roster — with guaranteed contracts, arbitration raises and free-agent departures — is projected to make at least $125 million as is.
That may mean any sizable salaries being added would require comparable salaries being shed, either via non-tendering arbitration-eligible players or trading veterans. And if the Twins do as many fans no doubt fear, and lower payroll even further, then the front office may be forced to shed salaries just to get under their new self-imposed limitations.
I guess I should be thanking Sinclair for keeping from watching that season
82-80. Pretty disappointing considering the first 5 months.

In case you wanted to feel worse about the management of the team, Gleeman got to talk to Joe Pohlad. TLDR version: Pohlad cut payroll not because of money coming in last year from the team, but because of other business decisions. Skirted any questions about how much they will cut next year.

I guess the whole "Since starting the season 7-13..." story line didn't end up aging that well.
What a obtuse answer to Gleeman’s questions by entitled D-Bag Joe Pohlad☝️He views Twins fans as low IQ RUBES who deserve no respect. Twins problems on the field started & ended with this A-Hole management group. They set the Twins up for failure in 2024 by cutting payroll by $30 mil then act indignant when things fell apart. I mean Twins Fans don't give him a reason to think otherwise...they fall for this crap every season.
I don’t know if I “fall for it” but I enjoy watching baseball in person, and the kiddo has an absolute blast and it is awesome to watch. That said, we have been upping the frequency of going to Saints games; dropping the number of Twins games to one or two a year.

That isn't falling for it...falling for it is the people (like certain ones who seem to be posting less in here the last month or so) who run off every stat showing we are better than we are and acting like there is any future with this team that doesn't involve them playing out the obvious outcome.
Baseball is not the NFL...the system is rigged to reward those that are willing to spend to improve the team.

Gee - I wonder why attendance was down.
I post Twins stats because I am a stat geek. Speaking for myself only I haven't posted much the past 6 weeks in this thread because there hasn't been much positive to post and I try to post positive things.
I don't post stats expecting the Twins to win in the playoffs. Playoff success is tied closely to payroll and being a Twins fan I am very aware of what the playoffs have in store for us if we make it to the playoffs (see last 30 years).
People talk about Twins owners fooling people I don't think Twins fans are fooled it's just that if you are a fan of baseball going into the season you are naturally hoping for the best but I think most Twins fans realize the odds are stacking against us and that ownership is a big reason.
Yes all Twins fans could boycott the team to try to send a message to the owner and try to force them to change their way but in the end the lower the attendance/revenue likely the lower payroll.

That will never work...we basically did that from 1993-2000 and as you said the Pohlads responded in kind. Truth is as long as they are the owners the team is never going to go anywhere. Its like Gopher Football and Basketball...as long as the Big Ten only cares about its network and expanding its footprint there is little to no chance they will ever be truly relevant. So I pay enough attention to know but honestly my enjoyment level is way down and my excitement is at best...reserved. Unlike the Gophers though the Twins is mostly self imposed because the owners are just stupid and awful.
Honestly the only reason I care at all about the Vikings (although its tough when the weather is nice) is because the NFL makes it so every year the league is a bit different. The league incentivizes parity.
I was down in FL last week for softball and our hotel room had the Marlins-Twins series on TV so I got to watch those (or at least the last couple innings of each, as we were usually playing/watching opponents play until 8-9pm EST). That was the first time I'd seen the Twins on TV other than national broadcasts since April (as previously mentioned I streamed others online).
As Handy mentioned earlier, the ownership paid for high end top of the lineup guys like Correa and Buxton and Lopez but when they cut salary it means the depth has to come from the minor leagues. Expecting all the guys from AA and AAA to come up and be ready for the MLB immediately is a recipe for failure. A failure we got to watch this summer.
I saw a stat over the weekend that this Twins team used the 4th most players in franchise history. When almost all of those players are guys coming up from AA and AAA they're going to have growing pains. We saw that first hand multiple times.
Best hope now, given asshat Pohlad's responses to Gleeman's questions, is that they maintain the current salary and the guys they called up and gave extended run to this season are able to adapt and perform better next year. We saw a lot of Brooks Lee this year and he looked like he can hit at the big league level. Miranda looked great after making some adjustments early. We mostly know what we're getting out of Lewis when he's healthy as well. I liked what we saw out of Larnach at the plate and Wallner's adjustments after his time in AAA turned his season around.
SWR looked like a bonafide middle of the rotation guy, Festa looked like he's going to be a solid rotation guy, Zebby Matthews probably still needs some seasoning in AAA but he really looked solid his last 3 starts (15 IP, 5 earned runs). Those guys with Pablo, a hopefully healthy Joe Ryan, and Bailey Ober are a decent start to the rotation.
Obviously would be nice to see them make another addition to the rotation (likely via trade considering the owners).
On the positive side, Cole Sands looks to have turned himself into a very very solid mid-late inning relief pitcher this season which is not something I had really expected to see. With him, Duran, Jax, and Alcala they have a solid group of RPs for next season and I'm hoping they tell Varland he's going to be a RP full time because he seems way better out of the pen than he does as a SP.
It is a team/franchise that on paper is set up to compete for the division for the next few years. Until the ownership changes or the Pohlads have a change of heart and start actually investing in this team the way they should instead of treating it like a normal business, that's probably the best we can hope for. Any playoff success is going to be entirely matchup dependent and health dependent.
The Royals and Tigers just went 4-0 on the road against Baltimore and Houston to eliminate them. Detroit held the Astros to 3 runs total over two games and Kansas City held Baltimore to one run total over two games. The AL Central continues to prove it is the best division (after getting three teams in the playoffs) with dominate pitching. 😉
The Twins had to play 39 games this season against the murders row that is the Guardians, Royals, and Tigers. 😀
The Twins have entered the potential death spiral. The Pohlads have frequently based payroll on projected revenue surrounding attendance plus TV. Neither TV nor attendance look to improve next year and attendance down 300,000 this year is nearly 10% off capacity (3,700/game).
This is where the mid to late 90’s Twins resided. We could be in for a 30 year reunion of suck. Hopefully not.

The difference of course being the Twins are not as good as them and likely would not perform to those levels. The Twins could be, they just choose not to be.
Also, outside of maybe Detroit those teams won't think that is a good benchmark to hit, they will want to improve no matter how it plays out for them. The Twins would strive to just get there.
According to Spotrac, the Twins have a higher payroll than Cle, KC, and Det.
So, whats your point? They’re paying Correa,Buxton, Lopez big time. They’re also the 2nd richest owners in MLB (which has no salary CAP).According to Spotrac, the Twins have a higher payroll than Cle, KC, and Det.
One half of Falvine hitting the bricks! With his contract expiring, Levine, the Twins’ GM for the past eight years, is looking to pursue the types of larger major-league opportunities he’s previously declined. Levine’s departure was announced several days after Twins owner Joe Pohlad confirmed Derek Falvey would remain in his role as the team’s top baseball decision-maker.

joy of having the guy who should win the Cy Young (Skubal) and an extremely good bullpen (Detroit). KC is a crazy story and probably what the Pohlads will claim as why they don’t need to pay anybody but they also have 2 top 5 Cy Young pitchers and the 2nd best hitter in the AL (Witt) showing mass clutch factor.
Skubal is going to make bonkers money next year
Aloha!

In basically any other season Witt would be the runaway for AL MVP. But Aaron Judge had an absolutely absurd season and will likely walk away with a wide margin in MVP voting. Witt's season was absolutely unreal and he's probably not even going to sniff the MVP.
A Judge is not MVP. Best player, sure. MVP = take this player away from a team, and what does that team do? I bet NYY still succeed a bit. I hate how they decide MVP.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

Normally I agree with that sentiment but Judge earned it this year. I mean 58 HRs, 144 RBIs, 122 runs scored, an OPS of 1.159 is a giant set of numbers to replace. And he did this while playing at least average defense in CF this year.
While the Yankees would likely still have been a playoff contender, a 10.8 Wins Above Replacement for Judge means, essentially, (and granted WAR has its own set of problems) that the Yankees go from the best record in the league to barely above the Twins and out of the playoffs. Obviously the Royals would be in the same boat without Witt but Judge earned every MVP vote he's going to get this year, just like Witt did.
Am I seeing this correctly? The Twins have a new TV with MLB.tv for next season?
$100 for the local option or $100 for the rest of the league excluding local team, or $200 to watch any game being broadcast (minus some national games)?
MLB took over Twins, Brewers, Guardians.

I saw the announced MLB.tv deal including the Twins and a couple other teams. Didn’t see any details about how it works or what it means.
