If I’m Rocco, I’m angrier with Duffey than home plate umpire, and angrier with Rocco for using Duffey than with Duffey for pitching like Duffey.

When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

As competitive as ever.  I have to imagine the Yankees are as bored with the Twins as the Twins are with them.

The Twins scrap back, cut the deficit to 5-4 and then, poof. Agree with Barreiro: the only person Baldelli should be p*ssed at is himself. Duffey's ERA is going up faster than the price of gas. What a shocking result.

Of the 5 pitchers the Twins used last night Duffy has the 2nd BEST ERA.

Megill   2.53

Duffy   6.55

Sands  8.49

Minaya 8.53

Cano    10.13

Looks like they have 9 pitchers on the IL.

Duffey has allowed like 12 earned runs in his last 8 outings (7 innings). IMO that's the biggest gripe with having him pitch there. He's been getting shelled lately. Something just seems off with him. IDK if it's his spin rate or what but hitters are not missing ANYTHING he throws.

Buxton’s slump sure seems to look long gone.  You have to wonder if that last injury lingered more than he or the Twins care to admit

It definitely did. There were a few Twins writers that were saying the Twins should probably put him on the IL to let him fully recover since Celestino has been playing well, Larnach has been hitting well, and Kiriloff seems to have recovered from his wrist injury (at least for now) and is mashing at AAA. But if he was able to get healthy with the playing time reduction the last couple weeks that would be helpful.

Terrific job by both the bats and the pitching tonight. Hopefully I can view tomorrow's game on ESPN+ via my VPN.

Don't know the stats but seems like Twins have a decent regular season against the Yanks...it's the playoffs that go upside down.

They are 38-110 (.257) vs. the Yankees and 1,583-1,498 (.514) vs. everyone else.

For two decades the Twins have played like a 42-120 team vs. the Yankees and an 84-78 team vs. everyone else.— Aaron Gleeman (@AaronGleeman) June 8, 2022

Arraez, Buxton, and Correa hit homers back to back to back as the first three batters in the first inning and Buxton hits a 3 run homer in the 2nd inning. All 4 homers and 6 runs are against the Yankee hired hand Gerrit "Gopher Ball' Cole. Who was 5-1 with a 2.78 ERA going into the game.

Buxton is bad man!!!

Today is Cole's 246th career start in the majors and he had never given up more than 3 homers in a game. The Twins knock him out after 2 1/3 innings hitting 5 home runs.

I assume so otherwise I'd have seen it all over twitter by now, but I can't imagine it's happened frequently.

I can't imagine back-to-back-to-back HRs to start the game happens very often either.

Couldn’t find anything on three straight to start a game. Looks like four in a row is the most at any point in a game, and that’s happened ten times.

Buxton with with his second homer of the game. That's now 5 home runs and his last 9 at bats.

If I was Buxton I wouldn't have resigned with the Twins (and this is coming from a life long Twins fan) he deserves to play on a team that has owners who don't constantly keep the payroll in the bottom half of the league.

Typical Twins management SCREWING the pooch royally…could someone please explain why on God’s green earth was the Twins 2017 #1 draft pick, a SS…playing center field in the first place? “Lewis suffered a bone bruise on May 29 when he crashed into the center-field wall to make a great catch and then crumpled to the ground, reaching for his surgically repaired knee. He finished the inning before limping off the field.” Now he needs ACL surgery (AGAIN). STUPID, Stupid, stupid…

I love how the nhl app lists where to find the game on tv even during the game.  The mlb app I can only find it If I catch it in the preview before the game starts - that’s why I had a hard time finding it in progress.  (That and I don’t have Apple TV, which I consider streaming, and not actual tv.)  😉

I have cable and a 10 year old “smart” tv. I don’t have any streaming services, sticks, or gaming consoles (from this century anyway ?) so not sure that would work for me?

If you have Xfinity, with a X1 device, you can access Apple TV thru Xfinity's "Apps" menu.

Since SS spot is filled, and Buxton with a planned short season's worth of games...here we go.

Hindsight is 20/20, and I think it was a little short-sighted to begin with. High risk, high reward, and as we are seeing, also high loss. It wasn't bad luck, it was bad chance-taking.

Because they signed this really really really good shortstop in the offseason and made him one of the 3-5 highest paid players in the league this year. Royce Lewis was absolutely destroying the baseball in AAA this spring, continued to do so when he was up here when Correa was hurt, and went back to AAA and continued to destroy the baseball back down there.

The Twins management staff knew he was a guy who could contribute to the team significantly this season. When he was sent back to AAA when Correa came off the IL, they had Lewis get time in at 3B, 1B, and outfield knowing those were the positions most likely for him to see significant playing time (similar to how they brought Luis Arraez along). Having a guy who could hit the ball like him but play 3B, SS, 2B, 1B, and all 3 outfield positions would make getting the regular everyday starters scheduled breaks easy because Royce Lewis was mashing the ball. They wanted to get his bat in the lineup as often as possible because he'd help them win. But getting his bat in the lineup as often as possible meant getting him to play multiple positions.

For the record, the idea of Lewis potentially patrolling the outfield was not a new idea. There were discussions about him potentially getting worked in in the outfield long before this season. He had begun to dabble in the outfield at the tail end of 2019 and IIRC they were going to get him more work in the outfield in 2020 before the COVID shutdowns cancelled minor league baseball entirely, and then we all know about the ACL injury wiping out his 2021 season.

He partially tore his ACL planting awkwardly after making a great catch in CF.

That's bad luck. It could just as easily have happened playing shortstop trying to avoid a slide, charging a ball and trying to throw on the run, chasing down a popup to shallow left field, running to first base, etc.

It wasn't "bad chance-taking". It wasn't any higher risk than putting anyone else in the OF. Injuries happen. They needed help at OF depth with Kiriloff's injury history (and likely long-term plan to play 1B) and their plan to keep Buxton healthy (a long-term plan, BTW).

A guy with the skillset of Lewis is certainly capable of patrolling the outfield long-term similar to the way the Dodgers use Chris Taylor, the Royals use Merrifield, the Red Sox (and formerly Dodgers) used Kike Hernandez, etc.

It's MLB in 2022. Guys with his ability and skillset are being asked more and more often to play multiple positions early in their career to help their team.

Isn’t this the same knee he already went through ACL repair on? Thought I heard that during the broadcast yesterday.

A guy with the skillset of Lewis is certainly capable of patrolling the outfield long-term similar to the way the Dodgers use Chris Taylor, the Royals use Merrifield, the Red Sox (and formerly Dodgers) used Kike Hernandez, etc.

It’s MLB in 2022. Guys with his ability and skillset are being asked more and more often to play multiple positions early in their career to help their team.

Isn’t this the same knee he already went through ACL repair on? Thought I heard that during the broadcast yesterday.

Yes it's the same knee he tore the ACL in last winter (slipping on ice after a storm at his home in Texas).

Mr Flexen needs to start giving Bux the Barry Bonds treatment (walk him).

The Twins makeshift bullpen is doing what last year's bullpen did.   This team probably is 3 pitchers away (a #1 or #2 SP and 2 good high leverage relievers) from being taken seriously as a contender for the division

Yep, they do.

10 runs wasn't enough last night, and, for the second night in a row, Twins' pitchers gave the game right back after a big homer got the team enough runs  for a win.

You'd think eventually it would get old looking at the pitching staff for your next savior and seeing only the discount rack.
