I too have seen them play many games. I think Cottingham’s game jumps off the page more and Greeder’s game is more subtle, but I would describe Greeder as as close to mistake free hockey as you can find. Cottingham is more wild wild west-like.
Regardless, both are very good players!

Anyone subscribed to this guys blog that can give me the juicy scoop on the latest Hagens drama? (not expecting anything groundbreaking)
From 2 different articles by Mike McMahon…
“While he’s uncommitted at this time, Hagens is expected to have his college commitment finalized before the start of the season so that he can focus solely on hockey.”
and…
“One of the top 2006-born recruits in the nation, James Hagens, will not be headed to Harvard according to a report from Mark Divver. Hagens’ brother, Michael Hagens, also re-opened his recruitment this week after initially committing to the Crimson.
According to sources, it’s expected that the Hagens brothers will commit to a program together. It’s expected that the younger Hagens will receive a significant NIL package wherever he lands.
James Hagens is projected to be one of the top picks in the 2025 NHL Draft. According to multiple sources, Providence and Boston College are among the finalists, but other programs are also involved. I’m told Michigan State is another finalist, and I have to believe Michigan could also be involved, although I have no concrete info on that.
McMahon’s Analysis: Some prospects are receiving NIL deals worth north of $100,000, and Hagens would be the type of player that would fall into that category.
If forced to pick, I believe Hagens will end up at BC. I’d say I’m 55 percent confident in that pick. Geographically and academically, BC isn’t far off from Harvard. Plus, as a member of the ACC and with a larger NIL collective, they’d presumably be able to offer the most money from that standpoint.
While not confirmed, I believe it’s possible that Hagens could accelerate his studies and become a freshman next season.
As I reported earlier this summer, there have also been rumors that Hagens could decide to take the Auston Matthews route and play pro hockey in Europe during his draft year.”

What does the Gopher's "NIL package" look like? Hard to turn down BU/BC and play for the Gophers if they are offering recruits $100k in NIL money to play. Is there anything beyond Dinkytown Athletes? I'd happily give up a year's salary in exchange for a national title. I don't have kids. I don't have a life outside of work and Gopher hockey. Just want to know why a B1G school with tons of resources is getting outspent.

Thank you!! That first paragraph directly contradicts something else that was reported which essentially said Hagens planned to go into the season uncommitted. A lot of grasping at straws when it comes to things like this lol
Im sure Dinkytown Athletes tossed a large sum of money his way. Or promised him the possibility of a large sum of money once he reaches campus… (still unsure how this whole thing works)
Another USHL writer said Hagens is looking to commit before the season too, but it’s literally the exact same wording so I wonder if he’s just piggybacking off of McMahon (or vice versa).
if before the season is true, we should be seeing a decision here really quick.
We surely should be seeing some forwards commit here shortly no? We dont have many in the pipeline and will lose atleast 3-4 this year. Eiserman will be likely a one year player. Maybe bob will hit the portal heavy this next offseason.
I'd imagine we see a few soon. Moore and Townsend look likely for 2025 so a start there.

I doubt Bob intends to nor will need to use the portal for more than the occasional guy here and there (Michel was an emergency). Looking far ahead they lose Nelson, Brodzinski and probably Snuggerud (don’t think that’s 100% at all) and bring in Hendrickson, Ziemer and Eiserman.
Pitlick and huglen slight flight risks, then strobal and pinoniemi are guys i cant get behind going forward, maybe strobel if we see some development. Also, historically first round picks (moore) dont play usually longer than 1-2 years
Did you encourage him that signing a pro deal asap was in his best interest?
If he is a top 5 NHL draft pick, absolutely. Anyone who disagrees with Cooley turning pro was not in his best interest is a moron.
I know we just got to this year’s recruiting period but Mikey Berchild out of Tonka will be THE guy next year and has good odds to be a Gopher at this moment in time.

That's ok. Have them visit when the Gophers have a game.

If he's looking to commit before the season as has been reported...well that doesn't really work/bode well.
Who’s to say he hasn’t visited here already or plans to in the future?

I said I hope he has a visit coming so...
US U17 team is in town this weekend. Maybe we have a couple guys in for some official visits. Would be really nice to get a new commit or two.

As was discussed in the “committed recruits” thread the daily pass for the NAHL thing is a little spendy. If anyone wants to see the U.S. team on a tighter budget, they will be back in town October 7th & 8th for a couple of games against Elite League teams for a fair amount less.
Personally, I get more excited about their matchup against the Elite League anyways. I hope to be in attendance.
I hope we can get at least two of these four.
John Mooney, Cullen Potter, Carter Amico and Garrett Lindberg.
I think we have a good chance at Jacob Kvasnicka if we want him too. Not eligible till next year though.
Well the NAHL probably won’t be dropping their prices anytime soon. It is a zoo out here. We’re watching the game ahead of the NTDP game to make sure we get a seat.
Fun fact, one of the players in the game we’re watching last name is “Woogk”

I was at the game too. Logan Cooley’s cousin John Mooney is 5’6 and plays more like Cooley than Logan does. Puck magnet. Saw Bob and Gordon walking around and Guy Gadowsky which for some reason made me laugh.
Thoughts on some of the other uncommitted players? (Potter, Amico, Kvasnicka?)
Also, how’d Mace’o look?

Also, how’d Mace’o look?
To my untrained eye, Potter was the best player on the team. At least he was the one who had me checking my program the most in the early going before I had a feel for who’s who. On a team of fast players his speed really jumped out at me. Great hands and vision. Amico is a very solid looking stay-at-home type defenseman. When they lined up side by side in the National anthem line, Inthought Amico looked about an inch taller than Mace’o. Should be a solid pro. Kvasnicka didn’t look out of place, but really didn’t notice him a great deal. Mace’o looks to me to have huge upside. Good skater, nice hands, got caught out of position a couple of times, but played a very strong game.
Potter is the real deal. So good in every area of the game. Kvasnicka will take some time to adjust to the new level of play as he is one of the younger guys on the team. He didn’t look out of place though. I believe he hit the crossbar in the second and should have had an assist in the first.
Phillips is ridiculously big and loves to hit. Goes out of his way to engage in contact almost to a fault. Jumps in the rush a lot too. He had this one puck rush where he worked around 2 or 3 guys and made it look easy.
I think Cullen Potter just started following a couple Michigan State assistant coaches on social media.
Noticed Michael Hagens is now following Michigan.

very intrigued by Sascha Boumedienne. Tender of Youngstown and a goal in his first game. Hope we have interest.

Hopefully we stop worrying about who follows which team.
Need a Mooney commitment with all these big names going off the board?

Social media was accurate here.
@bertogliat Don't have to worry about the Hagens brothers anymore --- committed to BC.
Ugh --- was hoping we'd get a little more than we've got so far.
Maybe we didn’t want anybody from this class…. As they say on Happy Gilmore, Welp, better luck next year ?
Michigan State is cleaning up.
Help me, L.J. Mooney....
Still some great talent:
L.J. Mooney
Cooper Simpson
Jacob Rombach
Gavin Kor
Parker Deschene
A few inevitably will be Gophers.
Hagens bros to BC….bummer but seemed like they were leaning out east I guess?
Just found out there is a Logan Broten playing for the Sioux Falls Power 16U and from what I could tell is Aaron's kid. Future Gopher?

Aaron is 62. I wouldn't have expected this. It technically could be a child or a grandchild.

Yeah I didn't even think about Aaron's age. Here it shows that "Aaron Broten has certified this skill" and I probably made the wrong assumption about him being more likely a son then grandson.

Maybe an uncle or great-uncle. Aaron's bio with RBC says "He has been married to his wife, Mary, for 35 years. They have three married children and five granddaughters."
So no boys in there.
Is there a different Aaron Broten--a son of one of the others? Because this isn't the same Aaron Broten.

Found it! From a YHH hub article:
One small problem. The Chaska Chan head coach is not "the" Aaron Broten of former Gopher and NHL fame. It was his much younger cousin from Thief River Falls. This Aaron was very polite and explained how his parents never could have imagined when they named him "Aaron Broten" that the Roseau Aaron would turn into such a famous name in Minnesota. "Aaron is 14 years older, at that age my parents had no idea, that those three Broten boys would be so famous."
That explains it. ?

This guy understands the issue.... ?

Thank God. I was about to explore if he was the brother of Shane Gersich, who is a nephew of the Broten brothers and also was oddly from Chaska.
@greyeagle And provides a completely Minnesotan answer to it.
So…now what? We lose Eiserman and most of the top recruits for next year have already committed. There’s a few left out there. Any chance or are we just going to have a lost recruiting year?
