Stole 3 points in my opinion and it sounds like Bob agrees. Tried to sinc up Wally & Frank with the stream but it was sloppy at best, not exactly my forte lol.
How about Clark! Best Jimmy on the team?
Splits are expected. They've been better on Fridays. Get the sweep.
The Kurth rush/toe drag on the 3rd goal (Clark's 2nd goal) was sick. ?
Thank you to those who posted highlights here during the game.

A couple of big-time plays from Kurth tonight. Great to see.
All 4 Gopher goals were from the crease or just outside the crease. The Gophers repeatedly went to blood nose alley to score tonight. The Gophers going Red Ross!!!! (hopefully there are Friends fans here who will get this reference). ?

Rugby was never the same after Red Ross...
I have to think at least 6 goals get scored each night in this series.
I would envision so as well. O/U Line at draft kings out at 7 (!)
Legalizing sports betting was a bad idea. I feel like if someone is betting the O/U on a non-televised college hockey game, they have a serious problem.
eh i dunno. there are people in all sports who follow teams really closely and so may feel like they have an "edge" in knowing their home team. Now if they're at all pressuring college athletes or trying to influence the game in any way related to betting and you're meaning it from that angle, I totally agree.
Betting on a team you have a rooting interest in is a great way to put great distance between you and your money. 😉
Will #22 ride the pine for a bit in the 3rd after that stupid penalty?
from what I saw in the arena*, if that's a penalty, there'd be no players on the ice left during a UND-UMN game.
*it was on our end and didn't look like he even got his stick up. That said, I didn't get a super clean look but even the Michigan fan in front of us was wondering how they called that
people also forgetting we’re down a center so seems like a silly series to rag on thisThe team was 51.1% on faceoffs going into today.
Tonight: Nelson was 12-11, Moore was 5-12, Clark was 5-10, Mittelstadt was 0-3, Lamb was 1-0
The two freshmen (Moore and Clark) were not good in the face off dot tonight.
for a good chunk of the game we were down two

hard to argue with the coach, but I felt like we played as even as you could in the first, Michigan stomped us in the second, and we stomped them in the third.
Very even game 5 on 5. But Michigan held a vast advantage in special teams play, which is why I dubbed them the “better team” in tonight’s game

That penalty was the softest I’ve ever seen called at the D1 level

I feel like our forecheck had trouble keeping the zone for very long. There may have been one time we forechecked long enough that there were tired defenders for Michigan. On the other side, Michigan had at least one of those instances per period against us. We just couldn’t get the puck away with enough time to clear.
Close kept this one within reach in my opinion. They had more grade-A chances than we did. That’s hockey though. Michigan’s weakness tonight was clearing out the area immediately around the crease and our guys exploited that four times. Ours was special teams.

Yep...if you must bet on a game you care about bet against your interests! Emotional hedging for the win!

Leave emotion out of betting. The infamous MN Vikes 15-1 season? Guess which game I bet on? 😉 MN was better on paper obviously, but if there was ONE game to bet on...that was the one. Talking regular season, not playoffs. I won some more money on the ATL game.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

pretty easy over 6 for me tonight
Gophers stole a game tonight. Didn't play their best but got the win. Hopefully Sat night will be our better game and we can sweep Michigan.
Good gritty win tonight.
Jimmy Clark is that dude
Close is money.
Those student announcers were capital WOOF woof
I want to shout-out Close and also apologize. I spewed a lot of anger his way last year and downplayed his accomplishments because of the 3 current and 2-3 future NHL D in front of him. Clearly I was wrong.
Also want to recognise you Chris as you defended Close in each and every one of my rants.
There is rightfully a lot of hate toward the BTN broadcast--it was NOT good on many levels, including white balance, announcer sound levels, cameras trailing the puck, etc.
...But the worst part was that the clock was NEVER RIGHT. It's like someone had a stop watch and pressed the button whenever they thought the puck was stopped. In fact, it was a downright miracle, they allowed Minnesota's second goal after the period was over for 5 seconds!
Its 2023 and they haven't figured that stuff out?

For some reason, Brodzinski was feisty all game long. If you noticed after his 1st goal, he took a whack at the Michigan player. There was another time on the way to the bench he did the same thing. The call on him may have been soft, but he really didn't need to go into the scrum after the play. Just glad Bob gave him a little more rope, because we needed him last night. It was crazy when a Michigan player did the same thing to him in the 3rd with no call. In general tonight, STAY OUT OF THE BOX.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
I checked the rest of the schedule and the Gophers don't have any games at home in which the only viewing option is B1G+ streaming except the exhibition. Does that mean for that game the announcing crew will be a UM student production just like it was last night? They also have one @MSU so again will that crew be a a school production? Might be unknown at this time but one could assume.
My only minor nitpick (there are reasons to complain otherwise I suppose, but from my couch in the Philippines I'm just grateful to have any type of video option period) is that if the stream is going to be advertised as at B1G production, coach the crew to be slightly more neutral. I get it that a UMich crew itself normally is going to be homers and that makes sense, but I would expect a B1G sponsored airing to be less so.
All things considered though I couldn't care less about all of it and was just thankful to have the opportunity to watch.
He's been like that the whole seasonFor some reason, Brodzinski was feisty all game long.
100% agree with this statement. Should this be the way we win a lot of our games, no. Do we need to come away with a W when we do not play our best game sometimes, yes. One line was virtually non-existent last night and that needs to change and right now. PK was tested too often and the MI PP is lethal as reported. Our PP other than one unit looked completely lost. Someone else hit it on the head saying they are essentially trying to one man it up the ice. Doesn't work consistently at this level. Close was really good. Again. The face offs were probably not great but Nelson has lost his 'mojo' in that area?? Come on. He takes just about every key draw always against their best and is still over 50%. Clark and Co. were tough! Hoping for a higher energy game from the gophers tonight.
I sure hope the other three lines (and the power plays) take the lesson from the third line and drive the net. Don’t trail off on the rush looking for a one-timer. Don’t defer to the point on the forecheck. Take the puck to and behind the net. Good things will happen. Cause havoc around the goalie.

I'm sure that was a response to me, but the fact is that he isn't as dominant at face-offs that he has been. Does he suck? No. Is he still the player I want taking key face-offs? Yes. I hesitate to use CHN as my proof as they are not always accurate, but here is his face-off stats from the last few games-- last night 12-11, UMD 9-20, 16-6, WI 9-8, 8-9 UND 9-9, 13-9. I think that works out to 50%. I want to see him at 60-65% or 12-8 or 13-7 every game. I will concede that his numbers will drop a bit against the others teams best. I just remember in the past he would be dominate, and I just want him to get back to that again. Side note-- There is no bigger fan of the Farm Kid on this site than me, so I want to see the best from him and I didn't think it was some outrageous take.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
You are not wrong that the numbers may not be where they were last year and we would like them to be closer to 60%. I have also been a little frustrated by some draws that SHOULD have been controlled, ie won, by the gophers that are NOT being controlled. The guy on the dot is one part of winning draws. Agree we can improve in this very important but often overlooked area. Also a fan of the farmer. He plays a very complete game, excellent on PK, draws, and has a nice skill set. He is quietly having an excellent start to the season.

melmac yells "jello salad" at him because cowgirl's phone autocorrected to potluck back when his brother was here ?
Nelson does a lot of good things away from the puck, not least playing hard in his own end. He hasn't scored goals at this level but he's a solid two-way player.
Everyone gushes over the MI powerplay, but it will regress over the course of many games...still good, but it won't be close to 40 percent. For Minnesota, the focus should be on its own special teams. The kill last night was okay, but MI scored on a wicked one timer that Close just couldn't slide over for. The shooter was outside the box, and that shot would beat most goalies.
They are a mess on the man advantage...one ham-handed zone entry after another. Coaches need to find a PP that the players can execute. It will get better.
If the Gophers' special teams was merely average last night--if they gave up only one and scored one themselves--Minnesota wins 5-2, despite the enthusiasm of the junior announcers rooting for their team

Watched the highlights. I think that pretty much seals the deal I won't ever sign up for Big +. It's like watching through Saran Wrap.
@idontknow I agree last night's production and camera work/angles were very poor. This is my second year subscribing, and I can say last night is an exception. For the most part, the offering is good enough and well worth the investment (whether you paid $30 or $60).
FWIW I stream via an Apple TV. I am also a cord cutter and don't get BSN on YTTV, so am just thankful to have B10plus.

It is possible that the good cameras the Michigan AD has are in Happy Valley, College Park, or Columbus. Don’t give up on it yet.

A+
watching this team right now it's hard not to compare to last year and we as fans just need to understand it's a completely different team. Gophs need time to gel. They lost 3 puck moving and skilled defenseman and two Hobey Baker candidates in the scoring zone.
New leaders will emerge, young players will grow up and they will figure out you need to play more than one good game a weekend.
More than 25% of the regular season is done so a decent amount of what you see is what the team will be.
Snuggerud and Moore will need to click for the team to go anywhere at the end of the year.
Best story and biggest performance over pre season expectations? Clark, no question.
Gruba in at the Christmas break, despite a low chance of happening, will be pondered.
Anyone else see “Pitlock’s” behind the back pass to nobody in the first I believe it was? (Well actually the nearest guy was in white).
I felt there were still a few too many opportunities guys should have simply crashed the net and taken a shot when they chose to pass.
That being said, I can certainly say the mood was very different at the end of the game than when we were still down by two after the failed five minute power play. You could see the energy in our team change in that third period and I hope that carries over to tonight. As Hobey said, despite a lot of familiar faces, this is not last year’s team and they are clearly still working to find their identity.
I’d like to see an ass-whoopin’ given by the maroon and gold, but expect another nail biter. Good luck to my comrades who will be sitting across from the children of the corn. May you keep their pie-holes quiet!
Here’s to lots of jello salad tonight! Let’s clean house tonight if ya know what I mean - GO GOPHERS!

It absolutely will not be lmao
@gophers2023 Yup, this is exactly what the team will be. No one will get better (or worse). I mean, can you give us the season record so I can know whether to watch or not? It’s so good having you back Bonin with your highly entertaining, always negative, wisdom. Are you just not getting enough attention on the other board?
Last night was by far the worst B1G+ broadcast I've seen. Can't remember what second worst was, but it was so far ahead of last night, last night can't even see it with a telescope. Something was just way wrong with their camera.
Happy with the result of the game, of course, and I like seeing them hang in and battle back, but they're got to play harder, and for the full game.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

Thank you! Watching the highlights I could not understand how apparently we scored with like 1.5 seconds left and the clock was at zero. Admittedly I was less than sober but still I rewound it like 4 times.
I get we are spoiled, and while I will mock student broadcasts at SCCC a lot that is more because of the school not really the effort. That BTN put this on the air is a friggin embarrassment.

I could not disagree more. We haven't seen even close to what this team can be...25% is nothing even without injuries. Call me when the months end in "Y" and then we can talk about what the team is...and even that is suspect.
And no chance they are pondering bringing in Gruba. Come on...
What's the matter...the trolling at ghole isn't enough for you? Does it hurt to watch your favorite team always lose to the better team? Whether it is Wisconsin Football or Michigan Hockey you just can't buy a break these days eh bonin!
Snuggerud has been very hit and miss this season. Needs to wake up.
Snuggerud's issues are effort related. He is very lazy away from the puck and I think this was covered up last year because his line mates were so good at puck retrievals and just possessing the puck in general. All Snuggy had to do was get open and be ready. He'll need to develop his game away from the puck if he wants to have success at the next level, hopefully this year helps him realize that.

The wife went upstairs for a minute and she could hear me yelling at "Pitlock" from the basement on that play. Glad I don't have a swear jar, because I would have filled it up last night on a few of the face-offs and trying to exit the zone plays. Just keep building week by week... In Bob We Trust
