BETTER DEAD THAN RED!
Any chance Nevers and Koster are back this weekend?
Any chance Nevers and Koster are back this weekend?
I think there is optimism both are back Thursday night
Of course THIS week isn't on the number 9 or 9+, AND the Bills play on Thu night. Might have to get some valium just to make my nerves not go haywire. 😉
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Watching some of the highlights from Wisco v Tech this weekend, bucky looks decent. There were moments when they looked prone to making mistakes as Tech had a couple odd man chances but just didn’t bury them; but Tech did go 3/7 on the PP so if Minny can draw a few penalties, I like our chances.
Part of me is curious to see if they’ve progressed that much in the short time since Hastings took over but looking at their schedule, their five wins were BSU & sweeps of Augustana & Tech; dare I say their 5-1 record may be slightly flattering.
Would love to get as many players back as possible for the first conference tilt - start off the conference play with a sweep of wisco.
I don’t wanna discredit Hastings cause he’s a fantastic coach. But I think their turnaround is more due to the fact that they’re actually a really really talented team top to bottom. No doubt Hastings is getting more out of them than Granato though.
They have had a decent amount of talent the last handful of years. It’s easier to get better when all you have to do is convince that talent to play better than having to acquire that talent in the first place.
Still think we should sweep this weekend. For the reasons people have already stated they will almost definitely be tighter games than the last few times the Badgers rolled into town but I’m still expecting two wins this weekend. Especially if the whole team is healthy. Sweep at home, split on the road. Right?
I saw tickets for Friday on SeatGeek and they were $38 before fees, $57 after. 50% fees on original ticket price seems a tad excessive.
I've bought MN United resale tickets on SeatGeek many times and the fees (as a %) were not that crazy. What gives?

This might have to do with the fact that MNUFC do ALL of their ticket business through SeatGeek, both primary and resale....where the U does all their primary ticketing through their own system, and if you want to list them on SeatGeek you're effectively using SeatGeek as a 3rd party reseller, albeit their preferred one. Dunno, just a guess.
Guess it's up to me again...

PUMMEL THOSE BADGERS!
BADgers are better than last year no doubt, but if the Gophers can just play a clean game both nights I see no reason why you expect anything less than a sweep.
If there’s one team that will be gunning for the Gophers this year it’ll be Wisconsin. Yes technically the Badgers won the last meeting between the two but they’ve been on the wrong side of some lopsided scores the last couple years.
Sconny is much better than last year but if there’s one area where MN really rises above the Badgers it’s goaltending. McClellan has shown promise but he’s nowhere near Justen Close level.
A sweep is very reasonable but a split wouldn’t surprise me based on Bucky’s resurgence.
I wonder if Sconny has a Robbie Earl II watching game film on Jackson Blake.
Sweep!!
The red team has had a cute little run to start the season. This week is an excellent time to remind them of their ineptitude.

Has anybody watched WI this year? Does Hastings employ the same structure and system he did at MSU? He knows how to coach against MN, I expect 2 close games.
Why would Hastings employ anything different, it worked for him at Mankato & now (down the road) he’ll be able to recruit higher end players.Has anybody watched WI this year? Does Hastings employ the same structure and system he did at MSU? He knows how to coach against MN, I expect 2 close games.

I think that’s the exact point. Sometimes a coach might change his style when he has a more talented roster. Not saying he’s going to change, but there are plenty of good coaches that change their playing style based on their current roster.
Because that style sucks and I hope he has some self respect. Why would Hastings employ anything different, it worked for him at Mankato & now (down the road) he’ll be able to recruit higher end players.Has anybody watched WI this year? The counter argument I guess is Jacques Lemaire. Don't get me wrong, I hope to God he changes the style of play because I will have a hard time watching 4-6 games per year against that. Why would Hastings employ anything different, it worked for him at Mankato & now (down the road) he’ll be able to recruit higher end players.Has anybody watched WI this year? Considering the fact he took every warm body associated with MSUM hockey, including the strength and conditioning coach, I don't think he is lining himself up for big changes.

Because now he actually has talent
He had enough talent at Mankato to recently end two Gopher seasons. You can attribute those losses to the style Mankato played…but it was executed by some talented players. His style may evolve over time, but not in the short run.Why would Hastings employ anything different, it worked for him at Mankato & now (down the road) he’ll be able to recruit higher end players.Has anybody watched WI this year? It isn’t?! It’s the only thing I seem to be good at anymore. 😉
Why not. Begley will be getting a regular shift against the skunks. I like to think they’re getting all their injuries out of the way early and they’ll be fine in the second half…

Will be interested to see if they roll 13 forwards, or if Pino/Strobel become odd man out.
With how good the 4th line played in Forks it would hard not to take Pino out. Actually with all the D injuries they can dress 13 forwards since they only have 6 D

Sure, but it is well documented that less talented teams can find themselves having success playing the style Mankato did in the tournament. Being older, defensive minded, etc.
He *should* change his style because in a season where he's not just trying to beat top tier teams in a one and done tournament they will pick a part a team that is heavily defensive minded given time.
Wisconsin has talent on the backend but they’re extremely young. Gophers forecheck needs to get on them and toss their weight around in the corners. Let them know it’s gonna be a long weekend.
Moore-Lamb-Snuggerud
Pitlick-Huglen-Kurth
Nevers-Nelson-Brodzinski
Strobel/Pino/-Clark-Mittelstadt
and don’t touch them for a month. Let the chemistry build.
Would love to see that 2nd line start humming
The team really looks good overall. Better than I would have expected this early given the youth group that is our defense and the revolving injury door. I agree, leave that 4th line alone, they have been very impressive. Lamb, Snuggy, Moore seems to really work so same. They have tried Nelson with a few guys and mainly with Brodz. Who has come out as the obvious (maybe not since no one has mentioned it) backbone? #24. Point per game, only goal Saturday, around 60% draw with over 50 taken first series ie he is out there in every key situation, NO PP goals allowed. Glad to have Nevers back and please for the love of hockey stay..... out..... of ... the ...box. Yes I am aware there were a couple WHATTTT calls Saturday. Badgers are better, well coached, and have talent in all areas so we cannot coast. I know people say UND is THE rivalry. I say Wisco or UofM wanna be's Michigan. Come READY
Don’t love the Thursday-Friday series but it is what it is. Still Gopher hockey, still a rivalry weekend. I hope the fans show up and get loud! This team is fun to watch and worth supporting!!
Chat will be going. Gonna split time on the laptop between Live Chat (which will be going, as usual) and the Bills game (online only). Heart attack city, here I come!

Haven’t read every post, BUT, posting the videos at the beginning….I watched each of those games on TV and lived in Madison for a spell in the late 90s/early 2000s so I am invested.
Going into the weekend, we should all expect a sweep. That being said, being involved in youth hockey the last 10 years and knowing how these kids all know each other and are friends with each other, a split wouldn’t shock me or necessarily disappoint me knowing how these kids play hockey these days.
I was so prepared and wishing for a sweep last Saturday night but I was zero percent surprised with the split. Kids just don’t get up for games the way they used to in the “olden days”.

which song?
Serious question. How can we get the pep band to play this song during intermission? It is made for a hockey band ad we have one.

UConn uses it as their goal song, as the Whalers did, but you're right, I'd love to see a college band try it out.
