Astonishing how hard it is for these guys to handle a team as predictable as Alaska.
Moore has had so many chances. Feels he breaks through at some point.
What a frustrating 80 minutes of hockey this weekend has been
That force field must be what's keeping the Gophers from going to the front of the net, or trying to get the puck there. Lot's of useless skating around the perimeter trying to force passes through 3 guys.Alaska has a force field in front of their net and they score on a blind shot at the other end. This is frustrating to watch.
it's noticeable at the game. Getting beat clean on offensive zone face offs way too much and allowing Alaska to get the puck out of the zone.Getting killed on draws again
Having a cupcake schedule to start has really done this group no favors. They STILL think that making a fancy move or a nifty pass is good enough. It isn’t.

I agree regarding too cute vs North South but if you watch the front of their net when we have possession in their end we do have at least one (sometimes two) Gophers posting up near the crease. Alaska D is clearing them out like it’s a PK.
Face offs in the 1st period were Alaska 9-8
Clark was 1-6
Moore was 4-3
J Mitt was 2-0
Huglen was 1-0
Last night face offs were Gophers 23-19
Moore was 7-9
Huglen was 7-3
Clark was 6-4
J Mitts was 2-3
Wood was 1-0
I mean this in the most non a hole way possible and I don’t want to sound like some of the negative Nancy’s, but some of these nhl potential players need to win a puck battle. Snuggy has lost like every puck battle tonight and yesterday. Wood with his size should never lose one. But they are just losing 1 on 1’s. Hard to watch that
I see us standing around waiting for a puck and Alaska moving their feet and taking it. Hard work beats talent if talent doesn’t work hard.
Funny someone mentioned a force field, I said the same thing at the game.
Ziemer gets cross checked no call.
The refs keep swallowing the whistle.
FINALLY SOME PUCK LUCK. WE WANT MOORE
Ollie Moore with a great centering pass for the easy tap in goal by the Alaska defensemen. It wasn't an accidental deflection. The Alaska defensemen reach out and tipped it. 🤔
Gruba just did the same thing the Alaska defensemen did to Ziemer earlier in the period a cross check to the hip of the guy with the puck.
How is it a no call one way and a call the other way?
Alaska scores on the power play
Alaska 2-1
In what fucking world was that a penalty
BS penalty, yes. But that doesn’t mean you have to let them score on the most vanilla power play ever. This is ridiculous.
@collegehockeyaddict Alaska with one of the worst PK's in the country and the Gophers struggle to get a good look and then Alaska makes it look easy on their PP. Can't make it up.
Absolutely inexcusable weekend all around. It is not acceptable to have no ability to adjust your style of play for a defensively structured opponent. The blame is on the players and coaches. Long look in the mirror by all parties if they want any chance at sniffing their ultimate goal.
What was the definition of insanity again?
AARON! What a play from Brody
Gophers get a short handed goal.
Lamb with the steal and gets the goal when his centering pass to Huglen goes in off the Alaska defender.
Gophers tie it at 2
HUGE save from Souly
LEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
LEO GRUBA with a BOMB!!!!!
For his 1st Gopher goal
Gophers 3-2
JIMMY CLARK!!!!
4-2
Jimmy Clark with an absolute sniiiiiipe
These refs should be fired, what a joke they are.
The Alaska goalie reaches out and hits Hendrickson in the face and Hendrickson gets called for goalie interference.
The refs have made some "interesting" calls/non calls this weekend.
Not to beat a dead horse, but these refs should not have a job come Monday morning. Inexcusable
I’m all for going up another goal or two then running this dickhead.
Imma just gonna kick it
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
As someone else mentioned, the Gophers had 2 really dominate possessions, one in the 2nd and another in the 3rd where they controlled and cycled the puck for what seemed like a couple of minutes. Just could not finish. Also, the Alaska goalie reminded me of the old Denver goalie, Wallinheimo, as he is a bit of a showboat.
His antics/acting are very similar. He has been trash talking the Gophers through out both games. He did it again after Snuggy's stick breaks on the break away.
Generally don't mind Jim Rich, but constantly referring to Alaska as "Anchorage" and the constant talk of tourney for Alaska - even referencing "balloters" has been a lot.
Souliere with a sweet stick save absolutely robbing him!!!!!
Weekends like this are important for a team's development. Alaska played well defensively but in the end it is another series win for the Gophers this time with a win and a tie.
Glad they figured out the last 20 minutes. Wish they’d done it sooner than that, but like I mentioned last night if the “punch in the mouth” ends up being a tie I’ll take it.
I was going to post 5-2 Culver’s earlier today but didn’t want any jinxes. You’re welcome. 😁
Good 20 minutes to end the weekend. Hopefully puts everyone in a better mood all around.
Fire up for the ugly helmets!
The Gophers scored more goals in one period than Alaska did all weekend.
The face offs for the weekend were Gophers 54-38 (31-19 tonight and 23-19 last night).
Ollie was 12-5 tonight. Huglen was 16-8 on the weekend (9-5 tonight and 7-3 last night).
If those refs weren’t purposely favoring Alaska then they should find a new career…that was a joke.
Glad they kept working on figuring out how to get the puck to the net, wish it would have been yesterday. Alaska’s goalie is annoying, skated out of his crease last night and made contact with a Gopher player that could have been called for interference. Take the win and turn the page to the next opponent and try to get and stay healthy!
Keeping the puck out of your net leads to a lot of wins. The Gophers only gave up three goals over the weekend (one of which went in off of Thomas). For the season they have given up 32 goals in 16 games. Couple that with leading the country with 66 goals scored and you have a great combination.
13-2-1 (6-0 in the Big Ten)

I had the same reaction to the balloters comment. Its just one word, I am sure he understands the pairwise system, but it stuck out as a glaring error.

I am probably just being cranky. Long games and plenty of air time to fill.
I thought the team was better at getting to dirty areas tonight, though still plenty of lessons to take from the weekend. Hopefully the grind comes with growth.

The team two years ago got 30 goals from defensemen (which is unheard of) in 40 games.
This year's team has 14 goals from defensemen in 16 games.
Wait we won 5-2 and that isn't good enough for someone?
I assume some posters are mad Souliere gave up 2 goals since Airey was getting ripped for giving up 1?
NIce response based on what I'm reading. I'm at the Wild Game so that is all I can comment on.
And the one goal was an own-goal.
