Here we go-- Gophers were 3-1 vs PSU this year. Gophers had 41 points and PSU had 27 this year in the B1G.

I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
I don't think this will be as bad as the Michigan series a few years ago... But I am thinking that unless the U really puts on a HUGE PUSH for this series, Mariucci is going to be VERY EMPTY. Especially with students on spring break.

I suspect the HS tourney also puts a dent in attendance; it’s a tough choice for many.

Im really glad the game on Saturday is at 3:30. I can watch the A final, go to the Gopher game, then get to the AA final. Friday night is all HS.
@composer Do you know with the students on spring break, will there be a band?

I have not received any emails calling for Alumni. That implies that they expect to have enough students. If hear otherwise, I will make a post.@composer Do you know with the students on spring break, will there be a band?
Thanks for the update.

Will be a smaller band but they will be there!

I'm anxious for the Wodon quote tweet of any crowd shots this weekend. Hope there are 1500 students who decided the best spring break was to watch hockey.

As far as I can tell you still have to buy tickets to all 3 games too...that doesn't help. I would maybe buy tickets to one, but I'm not going to buy tickets for all 3. It also doesn't help that it feels like just the other day I watched us play PSU.
Individual tickets are $10 for ST holders, $15 for the rest.
I went into the ticket site via the email The U sent me (season ticket holder) and it looks like I could by the package or individual games.
I cannot go Fri or Sat but if there is a Sunday game - and I hope there isn't!! - I plan to go.

In other news, you can wear whatever color floats your boat to the game this weekend, and it will look just like we tried to do a (insert color here)-out. 😆
You can buy individual games:
Those must have just opened today. They were not showing up this weekend.
Anyone having trouble ordering? I have tried several times to buy tickets for Friday (general public option) and it won’t go through.
From Bob's radio show--
Bob says he thinks there are enough B1G coaches in favor of a 2 week B1G tourney instead of the current 3 week one.
Did not like the way they played 4 x 4.
Said a couple of players need to find their game back and have been quiet.
Called the 3 seniors (minus Michel) the little ducks. Said Faber was a big part of that group as well. They would go everywhere together the years they were here.
Chance that a couple could be back next year.
Said Michel fit in well behind the scenes and knew his role. Has a chance to come back next year in the same role.
1 guy was out of practice on Monday. A couple of bumps and bruises.

The GPL schedule on the sidebar shows MN vs. PSU at 6:00pm on Saturday, that should be 3:30pm no?

Just taking a rough look at seats available it looks like Friday is doing better than Saturday. Probably about 1/3-1/2 sold for Friday and closer to 1/4-1/3 sold for Saturday.
We have the tournament package, so we'll be there. But the fact I was able to exchange my normal tickets for club seats in the first row about 2 weeks ago didn't seem like a great sign.
Fun fact, because the B1G sets the price for the tournament, the club seats are priced the same as lower bowl seats for the B1G tournament. If you've ever wanted to give that a try. Benefits are the same: free snacks (snack mix or popcorn), free "dessert" (cookies), free water, soft drinks, coffee, and sometimes hot chocolate, and can enter 90 minutes before game time through the 4th street entrance.
I actually like the view from the club, you have that overhead look that makes it really easy to see the play develop.

I am definitely in favor of making this change. IMO the semifinal/final can be the same week likely Thursday/Saturday or Wednesday/Saturday if there is a desire to have more time between the semifinal and final.
Having a full week between the semifinal game and championship game seems unnecessary to me and can cause Big Ten teams to not be as sharp as teams from other leagues going into the NCAA tournament especially for Big Ten teams who lose the semifinal game or in the quarter finals like Penn State did last year.

Benefits aren’t the same for the club this weekend. Per the U this past Sunday via email:
**Please note that because this is a B1G event, complimentary snacks and non-alcoholic beverages will NOT be available in the Mariucci Club Room for the B1G Tournament. Food and beverage will still be available for purchase in the Club.***
I have season tickets in the club and I’m sitting in the bowl this weekend partially because of this. Also it is a tad annoying that my seats weren’t offered to me (unless I missed it) before going on sale. Instead you have to call and purchase. I know, first world problems!

So for the sake of conversation, what would that bracket look like? Using this year’s bracket for example, would the 4 semifinalists play a final 4 in East Lansing? Cool concept but if the Spartans get upset the championship game could be empty.

I am not sure what is specifically being discussed amongst coaches but my reply was with the thought that the semifinals would be separate locations the same as they are now and the final would be at the higher seed left just like now. This is the reason for having 48-72 hours between the semifinal and final Thursday/Saturday or Wednesday/Saturday.
What a weird year for gopher hockey and TV. FS2 Crazy
The easiest solution in the past was to add an 8th team, but that doesn't appear to be in the cards for now. Bob gave no indication on what the new format might be, just said the majority of the coaches are on board. Just like one of the NCAA proposals, attendance will be an issue if the 2nd weekend is played at a place where the home team losses in the semi's. I know Bob has never been a fan of the 1 game per weekend playoff system after the quarterfinals. I'm not sure there is a perfect solution.

Out of curiosity, if there is one less weekend of conference playoffs, what happens to the extra weekend? More non-con early in the season and shift the big ten season back? Extra week off before regionals? (I was under the impression they didn’t like more weeks off between reg season and the do or die weekends). The three weekend format is dumb but if you play at an arena without the home school team there, good luck making money, which is the bottom line of the big ten, is it not?
@cowgirl my guess is that they would move back their non-conference schedule and eliminate a bye week in beginning of season. And/or add an extra exhibition game early in season.
I really hope they can figure this out soon. Either Wisconsin or Minnesota will be sitting on the sidelines for over a week before NCAA’s this year. Potentially 2 Big 10 teams if Michigan goes on a run and takes out Michigan State, or if there’s a quarterfinal upset. Certainly not ideal.

I see this argument all the time, but if you’ve decided to travel and go, you’ll still have the allotments. I’d say you’ll be just fine dealing with that consequence if it comes as tv money is more Important and because you’ll have sold the tickets as a package
From todays media scrum--
Bob--
Talked briefly about last weekend.
Nelson has everyone's respect.
He is a 200 foot player. He is a glue guy.
Both Kurth and Lamb will be available this weekend.
Pretty short presser with Bob.
Brodzy was next--
Tough to beat a team to send them home.
Thought Saturdays game proved that they can come back.
Said Nelson would have 11 more points if the called off goals would have counted.
Need to be smart defensively vs PSU. Need to box out and let Closer see the pucks.
Joked he never thought he would be an Edina fan until he met Nevers.
Talked about his time at the U. Feels like it is time to move on.
Chesley was last--
Said identity of this team is playing fast.
Not much other than normal sound bites from Chesley.

OF COURSE I am totally biased but Bob's comments on Nelson cannot be a surprise to anyone who has been paying any attention and knows anything about high end hockey. He is, as Nevers said in his interview, EVERYTHING to this team. He does it all. Quietly, Consistently, and Well. Is he flashy? No. Is he selfish? No. Doing foolish things? No. Responsible to a fault? Yes. The comments about him coasting, etc maybe don't take into account that he is trying to make sure we are not caught with no one back. His +/- as a player who plays against the best every time and on the penalty kill attests to that. I am happy to see him finally hitting the net, being physical without taking penalties, and taking charge and driving the net as he should. This team really does have ALL the tools. The young D have matured into really excellent players. The older players are doing their jobs. If we could JUST get a game where all of these pieces were firing at the same time??? Holy Cow. Look out. Praying for a few in a row later in April

I will be very surprised if he doesn’t tie on somewhere in the NHL and stick around for a couple contracts. He’s an ideal grit/gel guy in the bottom 6. He also has a very underrated shot

Ask yourself, in two or three years could he play the position as well or better than a player like Vinni? I think so.

agreed completely
Yes to all of the above comments. He is a prototypical NHLer at his position. He seems to have found a grittiness to his game the last few weeks that he needs if that is going to happen but he certainly has the tools
Went to go purchase tickets tonight for the Saturday game. Click on the link for the season ticket holder discount. Next page says that no discount is linked to my account. Go to my account and it wants me to renew my season tickets for the '24-'25 season. Unless someone has the promo code, I'll have to make a call to the ticket office tomorrow.
Does it ask for your gopher account number? I did it earlier this year, but I believe thats usually what it needs

Sometimes I want Nelson to be flashier, more selfish. You can be conservative, overly safe to a fault.

After one of the periods, he reunited the 7's line from last year -- 77-7-17 and put Clark up with Moore and Snuggy. With Kurth back, I would guess the 10-7-17 line will be back along with 77-11-81.

I would think so as well. Hopefully between the line shake up and getting called out on the radio Pitlick and Snuggy pick it up. Good to see that we can get scoring from other lines but we top line to heat up now that we’re in the post season. Also good to be reminded that when necessary, Clark can play with pretty much anyone and make a positive impact. He’s such a solid and reliable player.
Bob was on KFAN today. He said Snuggerud, Brodzinski, and Pitlick need to be better.
He's not wrong.
As great as they are shooting, and they are, Brodzinski and Snuggerud seem to have some similar tendancies. Not great on the D end of the ice and at times are turnover machines. The carrying it over the blue line down the middle through three defenders is a low percentage play in high school.

These are some of the bad habits that won't fly for Snuggy at the next level. He has to be responsible with or without the puck and stop taking unnecessary chances. It's ok to dump the puck if the play isn't there and infinitely preferable to turning it over high in either zone. Opponents have taken away Snuggy's shot which is just good coaching. Now it's his turn to adapt.
Brodz lost a lot of puck battles as an underclassman. Now, he's better than Snuggy at digging out pucks--age and maturity matter. Brodz wasn't blessed with the feet to play at the next level, but as a senior leader on this team, he has to show up every night from here on out.
Starting tonight, this team must play like the team that wants to win a national title. I've been preaching all year defense first and score off of turnovers. Aside from a blip at Notre Dame and a half-baked effort in one game against Michigan, they've done that.
I feel like Snuggerud will take the leap to the pros after this season. However, it probably wouldn’t hurt him to stay another year. Keep working on his craft and learn more of that responsibility when he doesn’t have the puck.
