Things to do in SF.
Sioux Falls has around 200,000 residents.
Outside of the interstates, Minnesota Ave is the main North - South road. 41st St is the main East-West road.
There is a large Casino about 15 miles away in Larchwood Iowa, but there are small casinos around the city and most bars have an area for gambling.
The Empire Mall is the main shopping hub, and there is a Scheels a few blocks away.
SF has a handful of Breweries within the city. Woodgrain, Remedy and Fernson are 3 of the popular ones.
Downtown SF has some really nice places to eat. McKenzie River Pizza is a great place for pizza.
For Foodies--Minervas, Looks Marketplace, Grille26, 22Ten, Carnaval Brazilian Grill
There are a lot of good sports bars around the city. Here are a few I like -- 18th Amendment, The Barrel House, Sickies Burgers, The Attic, Shenanigans, TC Referees.
Chislic is the official food of SD. You will see it on most menus.
A drive through Falls Park is the tourist thing to do.
There are not a ton of places to eat/drink around the arena. Crooked Pint Ale House and a couple of hotel bars.
Parking is free at the arena.
Weather forecast as of today-- Mid 40's to low 50's.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
Lupulin Brewing (based in Big Lake, MN) has a taproom there. They specialize in hazy IPAs, but offer other styles, which are also very good.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
On his radio show this week, Bob said he talked to the CC coach about facing Omaha in the Nacho quarters last weekend. CC coach said they couldn’t win a faceoff against Omaha. That’s particularly concerning since we couldn’t do the same vs Michigan and chased the entire game. That puts quite the scare into me having to face Omaha off the bat.
See you guys in Sioux Falls. Let’s go Gophers.
let us know when you find out the official Gopher bar!
Let's have a repeat of 2021.
With an older team that made it to the championship game last year, we should take down Omaha. If our younger D don't grip their sticks too tight and make smart passes out of the zone, our forwards are much faster then theirs. Denver showed how to beat them. I think that BU is beatable as well if you don't let them get their D involved in the offensive zone.
Yes, I'm writing off RIT... 😀
let us know when you find out the official Gopher bar!
I heard it is in Holland Mn 😉

I thought of this comment too. Hopefully Bob is all over this, which I assume he is.

sounds like patio season 😎
I watched the Friday night Omaha Nodak game. The Gophers will win this, Close will need to be hot for these next 4 games. Bob will most likely have Nelson take the key faceoffs. The forwards will need to stay in front of the net and bury rebounds. Go Gophers!!
I hate when I hear the results before I get a chance the watch the game. It takes all the drama out of it. 😉I watched the Friday night Omaha Nodak game. Really happy Omaha made it since I was the manager for Lakeville South when Griffin Ludtke was junior and Tanner was a freshman. Great guys and I remember being puzzled why they chose Omaha but they insisted Omaha had a bright future... 5 years later and they were right. Come Thursday they are enemies... Go Gophs!!!
Ok:
Remedy and Fernson are the better brew pubs. Blarney Stone is downtown across from Fernson, food is pretty good.
Minervas is downtown and the food is very good, check open table for reservations. Mirabel and Our Wine Bar are also in the DT area. Monks and High Ball are good places to have a drink. 18th Amendment and the Crow Bar are good meeting places, again just a little further from the Denny.
Grand Falls Casino is on the Iowa/SD border. The sports book will be busy with the BB games going on. They will have hockey on as well.
There are not a lot bars close to the Denny. Crooked Pint is the closest, Tinners North is about 3 miles away. Downtown willl have some options for a GPL HQ. I am part owner of a little dice bar in Harrisburg, but its to far from the action.
I am a class of 87 Alum and I am pumped to have the Gophers play in Sioux Falls!!
Sioux Falls will be a homecoming of sorts for a few Gophers.
The Farm Kid, Pino, Rud and Thomas played for the Stampede at one point.
Bob was head coach/GM there from 1998-2001.

For cocktails downtown, I would add the Hello Hi (tiki bar), Carpenter Bar, and the Treasury inside the bank vault in the Hotel on Phillips. I think the best steakhouse in SF is by far Morrie's.
Tiki bar, yes!
I see there’s an arcade bar too. (Eighty-one) - good number.
We love brewery hopping on road trips.
I think I’m drunk already! 🥴
I have an old coworker in Brookings I’m looking forward to catching up with.
is it Thursday yet?!!

Looking ahead at the weather, for now, looks like it should be decent conditions for the drives out and back.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Odds via Draftkings:
Gophers ML -245
Omaha ML +185
Over/under of 6

@mikeeruzione11 Insane the gophers are this big of favorites... I may have to do a personal hedge lol

agree completely. that line is clearly on name brand so i'll be curious to see if there's enough action to drive the line one way or the other

Yeah I think in general any 2 vs 3 seed is 50/50 and I don't see this as much different.
I'm sure some of these numbers are skewed with early season stats but Omaha is 4th in penalty minutes out of teams in the tournament and tied for 2nd worst in PK%. Very over simplified solution but use that speed from Moore and Pitlick as well as size from Nelson to draw some penalties and feast on the PP. (Yes I'm aware our powerplay is nothing to write home about).

all about getting hot at the right time. This team has also had a 5 game stretch where they went 7/21 and a 4 game stretch where they went 7/14. In spite of the futility recently (5 for our last 35), they're still the #14 PP in the country. They have the shooters and ability to break a game open on the PP if it gets rolling.

@upnorthkid Totally agree... only reason I noted our Powerplay is not amazing is because I used to be on GopherHole message board where I'd have to Bonin proof every message by acknowledging the fact that the Gophers aren't perfect (which he expected them to be). Glad to be on a message board where we all agree when the Gophers are hot they can play with anyone and most of our team has been in these tournament games and shown they know how to show up.
The game against Michigan needs to be a cautionary tale. You need a 60 minute effort, especially in the tourny. Anything can happen and you can't take any opponent lightly. We have a tough task getting to the Frozen 4, but we can get there. Set the tone in this first game. Go Gophers!

Looking at the numbers, Omaha has atrocious special teams. They have a subpar PP and a subpar PK and also take a lot of penalties. The power play NEEDS to show up this weekend cause they’ll have their chances.
Bob was on KFAN today with PA. It’s the last 13 minutes or so of the podcast.

What's the "cliff note" version of what Bob had to say? Thanks
Omaha goalie (Latkoczy) been pretty good down the stretch. They will try create a lot of turnovers in the Minny zone; if you can break it out clean there will be some good opportunities. This should be a W for Goldy.

1. Always very exciting to get into the NCAA tournament. Never gets old.
2. Sioux Falls is an underrated city. Says fans that travel won't be disappointed in what they see on the ice.
3. Noted that the Gophers are 6-3 in the their last 3 NCAA tournaments. They have one crushing loss they have to take to their grave, but they need to rely on the tournament experience this team has.
4. There has been a big emphasis on faceoffs and winning draws.
5. Need to rely on Close, Nelson, Brodzinski, Nevers, and Koster (the old guys).

Bob we're all holding you accountable for this one. Get er done.

This is huge if they can fix what ails them in this department.

Why not start it at noon? I'm sure plenty are going to want to go in at 4 to watch RIT send the Terriers back to their kennel.

It's weird how schools do that if they play the 2nd game. Happens at the Frozen Four as well. All I know is some of us will be pregaming earlier somewhere around SF.

Last year lack of experience had nothing to do with our performance (although that first line did disappear in the title game) however this year I think we can use our experience much more to advantage than we could last year (will also acknowledge that last year we had so much skill that experience didn't necessarily matter). My point is this year we will have 2 (maybe 3 if Fish hasn't played?) skaters who have never played in the tourney before compared to 9 freshman last year. I'll also add that Rinzel's performance will heavily correlate to the result considering sometimes his lack of experience leads to very bad things.
You could be right. I might also recall a very ill-advised and ill-timed penalty that certainly contributed to the ultimate demise. One play rarely makes the game I know but that call at that time might have been the tipping point. Was it the right call? I do not know, but if cooler heads prevail there, which can come with experience (not always), we do not take that penalty. There is plenty of liability to spread around of course. Hopefully we can play our best and smartest hockey the next couple weeks and get it done!

The penalty wasn't great....but I'll always say that that game was a bad bit of ice and circumstance altering a perfect saucer pass from being over...by the same guy. Cooley was a great Gopher, even with the penalty. *shrug*

Agreed. I am a fan of his game, but he has been pretty nerve-wracking the last month or so.
I failed to acquire tickets, I was looking forward to making the trip to Sioux Falls. I will be cheering on from the family room instead. I like or chances Thursday. Go Gophers!
