(Raises hand) I was in the prime age group when Blue and Red came out so I was obsessed back then. Liking the nostalgia.
So far I have held off. I dunno how much longer I will. I was a huge Pokemon game guy when I was a kid. The nostalgia factor would be fun. Couple guys I work with play it all the time.

I'll admit to it as well. I was in that same group. It's kind of fun for the nostalgia.
Yep, same here.
My roommate got me to download it, his house is directly across the street from a park sign which is a pokestop, so we can sit on the couch and just spam it getting tons of pokeballs

There's a gym within the fenced confines of my job. Non-employees can't reach it from the road.

I was talking to a buddy at work (I work down in Eden Prairie) and he said Winter Park was a gym or pokecenter. Can't remember which.
I just pictured a group of like 10 people walking into Winter Park with their faces buried in their phone and Mike Zimmer blowing a gasket at them.

Oh and Pokemon Go inspired me to download a Gameboy Advanced emulator on my phone. Currently playing Pokemon Leaf Green on it. Soooo many memories playing that on car rides in the summer

I was in the prime age group for PokeStuff, and thought it was dumb even as a 7th grader. :bored:

You were older than the prime age... Blue and Red and Yellow came out when I was in elementary school.
Feeling really old with all this Pokemon stuff...
I think it was a cartoon in the 90's.... Must have been a game as well?

The cartoon premiered in the US around the same time as two classic Game Boy games.

Yeah Nintendo Gameboy games, plus a card game. Probably hit popularity around 1996-1997. I believe I was 4th grade when they got really big.
My 2 oldest kids (18/20) were heavily into Pokemon. They are, of course, all over this Pokemon GO. The youngest (16) is semi into it. His friends are crazy though. He just seems so-so on it though. I downloaded and have played along. I expect the novelty will wear off very rapidly unless I can play with my kids. This isn't something I would be doing on my own.
The battery drain itself will limit how often I turn it on. The 18 yo has confiscated my external battery for hunting purposes.
I'm out of Pokeballs and need to find some PokeStops without feeling too dorky/creepy.

I never got into Pokémon, and saw people referencing (not just here but on social media) it being a 90's thing and I don't think that was really the case. Quick look at the games list and the first video games weren't released in North America until September 1998 and the cartoons and card games were late 1998 as well. So technically it started in the 90's but it was more of an early 2000s thing IMO.
*I have played it with my younger cousins and always thought it was kind of neat and fun. I think its funny how people are over reacting to the craze like those who enjoy it are from another planet.
I had everything. I was born in 84 so that put me dead in the market for the games, the card game, and the tv show. It bit me hard back then and the nostalgia is biting me hard now.

My apartment falls under a pokestop. Think that's why I'm enjoying the game more than others.
At this point just fucking go and do it. I drove by a park earlier tonight and saw all sorts of ages there. With a bunch on their way.
Don't worry about what other people think. If they judge you then screw 'em. Not worth your time anyways. If they don't know you then who cares?
Besides, everyone but the curmudgeons (less yours truly) are already playing. It's fun.

Eh. I group everyone older than me as a curmudgeon. And everyone over 40 as a cantankerous curmudgeon.

I just got back from a softball complex and saw at minimum 3 different groups of 7-10 kids on bikes/skateboards/long skateboards/razr scooters all glued to their cell phone.
I guess if nothing else the game is making kids go outside again.

2 weeks ago, a car parked across our road idling by the park sign at 11:00PM would have looked REALLY sketchy. Now it's just: "Oh, they must be playing Pokemon!"

It's not my thing either. Though the last two nights I have been out for walks around Como. My friend has the app. and she was playing it. And the park was way busier than normal. People everywhere wondering and playing.

I'm not much into video games, though I might be interested in this. Excitebike, Super Mario Bros. 1, 2 & 3, TECMO BOWL & The Legend of Zelda... Just missing Ice Hockey or Blades of Steel.

The question I have is can you use the cartridges? I am not seeing that in any of the press releases.
Can't seem to find that either, and that is the issue - we all have that one game we are nostalgic for and if it isn't one of the 30 included can we play a cartridge? If so, I would buy that today as it would work and look better than the one I have now that i have to manually add the analog channel 3 to my HDTV tuner to play!
It does need Blades of Steel and Dr Mario.
Edit: missed Dr Mario the first time I looked through the list
I bought one of the first Atari throwbacks when they came out and played it twice. The joystick just sucked compared to the original 2600 and I could get past it. Hopefully Nintendo has done better in this regard.
I doubt you can use the cartridges. Are they that small? Plus one of the selling points is you can play in HD. I would assume using the old cartridges, you're not able to get to that quality.

They do this for SNES And include Earthbound, Super Metroid, Link to the Past, Super Mario World, and Chrono Trigger, I will just send them a blank check.
Last week my sister was here at the cabin and found our Nintendo Game Boy from over 20 years ago. Only 2 games, Tetris and Dr. Mario. Graphics are horrible, but still fun to play.

I have Ice Hockey on my phone and the game is f'n impossible without a legit controller. I get beat like 15-1 all the time. I've been playing all of the Pokemon games on my phone the past 2 years so I've been playing a lot of Pokemon Go as well. Grand Forks is completely packed with pokestops and gyms so it's really hard to run out of pokeballs. It's absolutely amazing seeing how many people here are playing this game. There are literally people out playing every minute of every day and night. Most of the people I see playing actually seem to be between 20-30 years old, which is right about that age for everyone that grew up in the phase. I've seen plenty of people in their 40's and stuff playing as well. It's kind of crazy to see so many people that weren't big fans of Pokemon out playing the game too.
Supposedly they're adding the 2nd generation Pokemon to the game in December and the ability to trade with friends and battle friends is supposed to be added some time soon.
Picked up No Man's Sky for PS4 and I am enjoying it so far. It's hard for any game to match the hype, but Hello Games put out a quality game. It's slow paced and can be repetitive at times, but that doesn't bother me. The reviews are mixed, which makes sense since it's not as revolutionary as some had hoped.
If you enjoy exploration games that aren't heavy with a story line then you will enjoy it. If you like your games fast paced and/or with a strong story line then you probably wont like it.
A couple of friends took me to downtown St Paul last night to go Pokemon hunting. Went to Rice Park and Landmark Plaza at about 11pm. We estimated about 300 people hanging in the park all looking at their phones. Some had set up lawn chairs in the prime spots. Thoroughly enjoyed every second of the madness.
Okay, complete modern video game newbie here. A couple weeks back I posted I was looking at getting a Roku TV for the bedroom. While shopping for that my wife spied the 65" 4K screens and decided we need one of those. Then she decided we need to get into gaming and UHD Blu-ray as well, so she is now focused on the "XBox One S". As regards the XBox, is the 500GB console generally going to be adequate? Obviously less $$$ than the 1TB and 2TB. Also, does one need the "Kinect" device or is that not really necessary? I'm learning my wife is a bigger danger in Best Buy than I am.

Unless you play a lot of games or will only be buying games digitally, 500 gb should be just fine. My PS4 is 500gb and I currently have 5 games installed and have over 200gb free.

No need for the Kinect. I don't have one on my XBox. It ultimately depends on what kind of games you're planning to play. I have NHL, NBA, Madden, Fallout4, and a couple shooters and have never thought about getting a Kinect.
The capacity of the hard drive is also probably partially dependent on how you plan to purchase games. If you purchase them online and download them to your XBox it will take more memory to store the games. If you buy the disc, they still require installation and will save a decent chunk on your hard drive but not nearly as much.
I believe you can purchase flash drives for added memory if needed, but you'd need to double check on that to be sure.

For the Kinect, I'd say you can decide based on whether or not you're going to integrate your Xbox with cable/satellite TV (I don't know if you can run a Roku through it, but if it runs through an HDMI cable you probably can). You can do voice controls which are pretty cool. Turning the TV on/off, changing channels, etc.
And yeah the 500gb should be plenty. I have a 500gb console and it's plenty. I think the 1tb and 2tb are more for those who want to store a vast library of music or have HD movies on their console.
This is so GD spot on.

For those who missed it, Fallon played the Nintendo Switch on his show last night.
Kinda brilliant idea by Nintendo.

Side note: Has anybody played the new Call of Duty for the Modern Warfare remastered?
COD really lost me with all their uber-futuristic weaponry etc that they've been doing (making it too much like Halo). I'm wondering if the MW remastering is worth it? Are people actually playing the multiplayer online?

I got super burned out on CoD. We played the HELL out of MW2 in college.
I just got Battlefield 1 and am really enjoying it so far.
