Wells has never done me wrong. Ever. I've been banking with them for a few decades.
From the news stories you are in the minority
We have both but the CU has never done anything for me. They’ve never had the lowest rate for a loan.I was once like that too. I even balanced a paper checkbook. But once you give in to digital, it is one of those, "why didn't I do this years ago" moments.I want to see the cash leaving my hand. Too easy to spend money otherwise. And yes, I know that part is on me.It's time, tRube. If my parents can trust check card technology, so can you. If you REALLY need bills, they have these things called ATMs. They're like a mechanized bank teller.Wells Fargo not being open on Saturdays (for many locations) after today. 9-5 weekdays only.
Wayzata and Maple Grove are the closest ones to me that keep Sat hours.
I am old-school (gasp, I know) and just cash a check for my cash-money for the week.I ordered a debit card/ATM card. Never had one before. The world's end is nigh. Pretty sure this is a sign of the apocalypse. 😉
Direct deposit + ATM = No visits to the bank.
People still use banks? Especially WF? Yuck. I use a credit union…no fees ever and my mortgage and past car loans also. I rarely go there cause if I need cash I just get it from Target or the grocery store.
I’ve had the same free checking account since I was at the U. The TCF U Card accounts have no fees. To this day if I use any random ATM with a fee Huntington Bank refunds the fee for me.
Huntington is solid. My last car loan was through them, I was pleased with their customer service, loan rates, etc.

I was also like this. Then I got a wife and had a kid so I don’t really have to worry about money.

I still balance my account with a check register. I'm just OCD and need to know where all my money went and that I balance.

I’ll admit to being very “Rube-ish” about real money. I’ve given myself a small allowance of paper money each week for things like coffee, Target items, lunch out. When it’s gone it’s gone. Done it for decades. And yes, I balance a checkbook. That’s a holdover from college when I was SO broke I needed to know down to practically pennies. That isn’t really necessary today but it’s a hard habit to break.
Being in Italy right now a debit card is pretty much required. Yes you could use a CC but the fees will kill you long term. Our debit has no fees, even overseas.
Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.
The bank literally balances the checkbook for you. Just look at the transactions and see if any are inaccurate….. they’re never inaccurate.

Which POS fees does a CC have that a debit does not?

If I had to guess, I would say she's referring to the foreign transaction fees that some CC companies charge.

My cards got rid of those years ago. My gfs Wells Fargo card still had them.

I too try to keep a little cash on hand. For things like Girl Scout cookies, hockey sub money, and some bars and food places still only take cash.
I balance my checkbook. My bank app doesn’t tally how much money I have on the credit cards…I pay them off monthly so I need to know I have enough.
Keeps me accountable to not overspend each month.
When we got married in 1982, my wife and I started a (literal) spreadsheet of all of our income and expenses (by categories). In the Late 80’s, we got a computer and have been using that since. It’s good to know where the money is going. It’s also fun to look back at the early days.

My mom recently sent me a photo of my dad tallying 2022 expenses on an apple computer from 40 years ago (black screen with the green letters), and printing on a printer from that era - with the paper with the rip off tabs on the sides with the holes.
That may be the same computer I died of dysentery on as a kid. ?

The same printer airlines still use at the gate to print out a passenger manifest? Lol, we always crack up at the pilot wrangling a long print out. It’s a very distinct sound. Seriously, they don’t have an app for that? They can’t download the list?

You interjected yourself into a conversation where I was trying to coax tRube into digital banking. You were collateral damage for balancing your checkbook like an AARP member.

What's funny is that using a credit card is digital banking (and I do use a CC). I'm just not 100% digital banking. 😉

Driving home from the Tourney Thursday night I noticed I had a headlight out. Saturday morning picked up a headlight, popped the hood and a 2 minute job turned into over an hour. One of the wires to the light harness snapped. And at the break I had plenty of tail on one end and barely an inch on the other. Had no wire connectors on hand. Had to run back to the store buy a small box. And trying to connect the two ends, crimp them together was a task.

I've had a couple cars that I swear required half the engine to be removed before you could access the bulb on one side. Both Honda vans as well as both Acura's we've owned, if I recall correctly. The $40-$50 to get the bulb changed was so worth the expense.

I spent a couple hours trying to free a bulb from one of my cars years ago. Drivers side took 2 min and the passenger side would not budge. I finally had to give up and pay to have it replaced. Took all my inner strength to refrain from beating the car into scrap with a sledgehammer. Lots of swearing and sweating.I've had a couple cars that I swear required half the engine to be removed before you could access the bulb on one side. I didn’t want to hear that it took the technician 30 seconds to pop it out.

My Ford Taurus took minutes to change a bulb...
The Ford Ranger took minutes..
The Dodge Stratus was a pain. After a couple of times, I let the Dodge dealership do it.
Now the Dodge Journey... minutes until this past weekend.
I've also found out it cheaper for the dealership to change out your wiper blades than buying and doing yourself... grrrrrrr.

Same... Years ago I was changing the bulb on the Stratus in my sister and brother-in-law's driveway. My mom brought my niece (around 3ish at the time) out to see how it was going. They quickly about-faced and went back inside.

Hi all. I usually don't post personal things here, but today I'm making an exception.
My daughter, son-in-law and granddaughters live in Toronto; my younger granddaughter (Ellie), age 8 has MD. Three weeks ago I received a message from my daughter that they had to transport Ellie to the hospital via ambulance due to what turned out to be a severe case of pneumonia. It was touch and go for a couple days, but they managed to get her stabilized. She was later transferred to SickKids hospital, and was eventually moved from ICU to a regular ward. The MD has thrown up a number of obstacles in her fighting this off; some other issues have developed and she's having some important tests today.
I'm not sure how my daughter is dealing with this. Back in late November she and my son-in-law were out and about and he suddenly collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. Turns out he was having severe renal issues and was in the hospital for 5 weeks; he's currently undergoing dialysis. And now all this with her daughter.
The day Ellie was rushed to the hospital my wife was undergoing surgery. When my daughter messaged me she made it VERY clear that I was not to tell my wife anything about this until after she was out of surgery and in recovery. "Mom has more than enough to worry about and she doesn't need this stressing her right now" was how she put it. My daughter is one of the most selfless people I know and pretty much puts everyone else ahead of her. I'm worried about how much more she can have dropped on her plate.
Anyway, if you could take a moment after reading this to send any positive thoughts or good will I would be grateful beyond words. Though GE is the only member of the group I know personally, the kindness factor for all of you is off the charts.
Thank you SO much and my love and thanks to all of you.
Chris
@chris83 Hokey smokes that's a lot to deal with!
Best to you and your family, hope you can get there soon.

They’re gonna have to start putting Malibu stickers on the NASCAR cars.
People have been saying that Minnesota was the 2nd seeded team when Holy Cross beat them. This article from the Gopher website (dated 2006) says they were the top-seeded team. Can someone explain the discrepancy?
Because they call out Holy Cross as the four seed, I assume they are only considering the regional, not the entire bracket. Holy Cross was 15.

Gophers were the overall #2. I'm not even sure they designated back then if a 4 seed was 13, 14, 15 or 16?
