what did you think of Sofia V? I thought she was incredible and was scary as 🤬.Finished Griselda. It could have been 10ish eps, to be honest. The last 2 eps felt hurried and incomplete.
Side note: doesn't seem to be any good books on her life, unless you want to shell out $100+ 🙁 I'm sorry, but a 74 page or whatever book just doesn't seem enough for me.
Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.

That's what I was hoping for.
Also hoping that Donald Glover's talents aren't wasted in Mr and Mrs Smith.

She was pretty good. Whenever she flipped out, yeah, that was pretty wild to see.
Edit: (re)-found a book that I wanted quite a while ago on Amazon, "Hey! It's That Guy!" Basically an encyclopedia of character actors who've been in a ton of TV/movies, but when you see them on screen, you don't know what the actor's name is (necessarily).

I can't wait to read it. I remember Ron Perlman and Danny Trejo being "That Guy"s, and I have Trejo's book. Perlman's is on its way...

S2 of Tokyo Vice is out. I highly recommend S1 if you haven't watched yet.
Also S1 of Monsieur Spade with Clive Owen as the lead character has been a treat so far.
I'll put this under TV, even though it's on Netflix:
Saw Taylor Tomlinson's new special, and she is hilarious, she is one of my favorites. No holds barred, but also does get vulnerable with her own issues (most notably, anxiety/mental health). Some real zingers in this one, you can tell that even after all these years (this is her 3rd Netflix special) she's still honing the art. That sounds like common sense, but you see the BIG BIG stars of today, and they're not even trying to improve, they've got it down, it's a matter of finding the jokes.

Just watched the TV special "You Are Looking Live" that was aired on CBSSN. It is a 1 hour look back at The NFL Today studio show with Brent Musburger, Irv Cross, Jimmy The Greek, Phyllis George and Jayne Kennedy. What a trip down memory lane for those of us that watched that show in the mid 70's and through the 80's. Highly recommended.

If ANYone watches that new Shogun series coming out, PLEASE let me know what you think. I'm very much on the fence of getting the FX steam just for that show. Loved the book, loved the mini-series from way back when...

DO IT! It’s fabulous and so much better than the Richard Chamberlain version. The book is pretty great and I think this is more in line with it. IIRC, it's 10 eps? So I will wait until it's done, get FX for a month, then marathon the SOB. The cinematography looks outstanding, I'm concerned with the story....

Ep 1 of Shogun was a solid start, but Ep 2 was ridiculously good. A little bit more character development, with more insight into how the main players are going to be in conflict with each other in more ways than one. Some serious tension and a bit more action in Ep 2 as well. If they can keep it up I look forward to the rest.
Now through 4 episodes Shogun might be the best series I've seen since probably West World S1, or maybe tied with Severance but it gets very high praise.
Looking forward to starting A Gentleman in Moscow with Ewan McGregor. I hope it has the charm and intrigue of the novel.
Just watched the CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM finale...it was absolutely hilarious! 👍

Counting down the weeks until I can just get one month of Hulu or whatever it's on and marathon the summabeech. 😉

After 2 episodes of Parish on AMC with Giancarlo Esposito? It's ok mostly due to him. The story is nothing new and there's plenty of cliches, but his performance is stellar enough for me to continue for now.
For those who lauded Shogun (this year's big FX series): YES. Thank you for the input.
I know last ep is tomorrow, so signed on for a month, and am marathoning it. 3 eps in...I was already hooked and in the fish cooler by the end of the first episode.

I still kinda chuckle when I see him in "The Usual Suspects." He was awesome in that.

The Shogun finale was a chef's kiss. I hope Anna Sawai continues to get big roles after shining here and also in Monarch.

Shogun somehow got better with every episode and the finale was so good. I’m assuming they followed the book very closely as they had unlimited time to get it right.
Good to see Severance get some love but it’s taking way too long for season 2 to come out. Sounds like they’re done filming but we won’t see it until late this year. Love Walken in it.

Just finished this tonight...I thought the previous ep and half was much more intense than the end game. I thought the end game was more subdued than what I desired, even though it fit the Lord's wishes/plans. As to @bigbeer question: Yes, the finish was the same, the presentation was slightly different between the novel, the OG series, and this series.

Also started the final season of Letterkenny, and while this is only a part of the 2nd ep of it...CLASSIC satire/parody of today's "country" music (ahem, @cowgirl )

I’m dumber for having watched that. 😂
Don’t know why you’re pointing at me, I don’t even listen to much modern country music these days.
I don’t even know what a sun dart is. 🤷♀️
Sun Dart = smoking a cigarette in the sun.
And the video is to point out how dumb modern "country" is. (which is probably anything after 1986ish...)

Rube the subtlety of the finale for me was brilliant. A perfect bookend to Ep 1 and imho did the novel complete justice.
Shogun was always about more than action. It was about stories, history, culture, relationships and characters and the ending captured all of it.

They nailed it imho.
I just started watching Shogun and one episode in I am enjoying it...even though I have to read it.

I understand all of that, I guess I was expecting a bit more, the way it was built up. That being said, the spoiler you mentioned was pretty cool.

Marathoned "Shoresy" on Hulu (spinoff of "Letterkenny"). He was a little annoying in the original series, felt shorter doses were needed. That being said, this wasn't horrible. They eased up a little, added more substance to his character, did build a story around him. Am I hooked like a wide-eyed fish? Nah. But I don't regret watching it, and I'll prob continue to watch it. It's good enough to not be a waste of time.

Ripley through 2 Eps has been a treat. I honestly didn't know what to expect and wondered if memories of the movie would cloud my judgement, but it's different enough to stand on its own. So far great dialogue, cinematography, the setting and the leads actors are fantastic. There's a very palpable and foreboding anticipation of what's to come and I'm looking forward to the rest of it.
I finished Shogun yesterday and I really enjoyed it even with the subtitles which I am normally annoyed with but understood why they produced the show that way. I agree with what @slap-shot said that it was all about the culture and characters and their stories. Just a very well done show.

I’ve been enjoying the “Secrets of the Octopus” series on Disney+. Very interesting creatures.
The most recent episode from Welcome to Wrexham is one of the best things of this style of TV I've seen a very, very long time. Kudos to the producers and writers for putting together something so completely different on so many levels.
Watched the first ep of Warrior tonight (Max series that is now on Netflix):
During the Tong Wars in the late 1800s, Ah Sahm, a martial arts prodigy from China, immigrates to San Francisco and becomes a hatchet man for the most powerful tong in Chinatown.
A friend has been bugging me to start it, knowing my fandom for the elements that are in the show. Yep, he's a wonderful jerkface, because I'm hooked after just the first ep.
Pretty sure the actual dialogue isn't authentic to the time period, but that's a nit to pick. Overall, has a LOT of promise.

I do love how much Reynolds/McElhenney really shine a light on the community of Wrexham and not just on the business of the club.

An instant classic.

Finished the series, and the ending was...okay. Looking it up on wiki, it was indeed cancelled after 3 seasons, which explains having a couple loose ends; however, I could see the series only going one more season, anyway.
That being said, very much worth a watch, the action scenes were good, it showed the grind of the political/streets machine of the time, etc. The characters evolved quite nicely throughout the series, and they knew when to bring in or get rid of a character.

What was the show?
@slap-shot Alert:missing persons unit. It is on Fox. Season 2 Episode 8. Probably not the most popular show, but it was renewed for season 3, so there is that.

I just binge watched all three seasons of Clarkson's Farm (Amazon Prime). Great show. Can't wait for season 4. Give it a try if you have Prime.
That 90s Show 2nd season drops tomorrow (3rd season in Oct) (Netflix). I'm a sucker for this one. They brought everyone back, basically, except Masterson (Hyde) and the two actresses that died, for obvious reasons. Still has the sitcom magic of That 70s Show. If the original show was in your wheelhouse, the sequel/whatever is worth watching.

I didn't think Donna, Eric, Michael nor Fez came back.

They did, but for basically cameo appearances. I think Fez had the biggest part.
Donna has had more appearances than the rest.

All of them came back, even a certain character came back for S2. They are passing the torch, but slowly.
3 eps into S2, still liking it. Ep2 has a cameo I admittedly geeked out for. That was hilarious.

IDMB lists Topher, Ashton and Mila as having done 1 episode. Maybe it's not updated.
Read a review of the 2nd season, which I just finished tonight (only 8 eps total). And looks like they did the cameos/etc just to satisfy the 70's Show fans, and transition to the new characters. Red/Kitty/Bob/Leo seem to be the only real holdovers. S3 drops late October.
The 2nd season, it's getting into a groove of their own. Very much kept the style of the OG show, just in 90s form, and they do it well.

Just watched S3E1 of The Bear, and I think I can say without exaggeration that it was one of the best episodes of anything I've ever seen.
