I don’t think Molson is skunky. Almost like it more than LaBatts. Now Moosehead is a skunky Canadian beer.

Thanks to @armadillo, I have a sixer of Puppers beer (the official beer of Letterkenny tv show, made by Labatt's). Can only find in Canada, as far as I know, where Le Dillo Familia recently vacationed, and well, Puppers tastes like what you would expect. The can label/design is phenomenal, though. The alliteration on the back is classic Letterkenny.
Had my first Schell's Oktoberfest this weekend. Seems too early for this but it did taste good. Seemed like the thing to do since we were in New Ulm for a wedding and we pre-gamed at The B&L Bar.
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!
I call it the gold standard for Oktoberfests.
I would agree. It is my go to fall beer once the weather trends cooler.

Millstream's (IA) Oktoberfest is amazing. You can find it around the metro area. That's my gold standard for that style.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
We're planning on going to Schells next week to check out their new Bier Hall. Hopefully they'll have Oktoberfest on tap.
I would have no doubt they will, the two bars I went to in New Ulm had it on tap.

One of LTD Brewing's brewers left to go to Unmapped.
One of Bear Cave Brewing's brewers jumped ship to LTD. 😀
My grin is very wide right now. (FTR, the LTD brewer that left is a friend, and he's darn good).

Just got word, the Bear Cave Brewer is one of the ones that started Falling Knife Brewing, which is a GREAT brewery.

Just checked out their website... they have quite a list of beers for a craft beer brewery.
Bear Cave Brewing Co - Minneapolis, Hopkins, MN

I am not a fan, for many reasons. And zero have to do with being a fan of LTD.

Without trying any of their beers, I just get the impression that they are going with the quantity over quality route.

They are after the Insta crowd, and the $$. Not about the neighborhood vibe, interacting with customers. They've done some things businesswise that were not professional.

Visited the new Bier Hall at Schell's. Very nice. You can bring your own snacks but please leave crockpots, grills, and electric mixers at home lol. This year's Oktoberfest is a 10.
Agreed. Had the Oktoberfest at Schell's last weekend, they did a great job on this year's batch.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Got a sneak peek pic of ONE of the two barleywines LTD is releasing on the 16th for their Oktoberfest block party (the other is an American style, and they will have a Marzen and Festbier also). I'll be pouring with a couple friends inside the taproom all day, and I do mean all day. Come on by from 2-10pm! (FTR, I heard the REM and RAM is coming it at 14.5%)

New favorite brewery: Great Turtle Brewing of Mackinac Island. Had 2 flights, all excellent. Liked it so much we went back the next day for more.
Also learned some history while on the Island. There's an old fort there that the British built during the Revolutionary War. The Americans took it over after winning the war. Then the Brits captured it during the war of 1812. Then the Americans took it back after winning that war. Interesting place to visit.

I should report back on this. Both barleywines are amazing. Way too smooth and dangerous. The marzen was solid, the festbier was better than last year.

Buddy had some people over for a BBQ and beer share. He said F it, and cracked a 2020 Toppling Goliath Kentucky Brunch Brand Stout. ? It was delicious.
For those NOT in the know, this 12 oz bottle costs $100 retail, if you are lucky enough to win an email lottery for the right to purchase a bottle. Currently goes for about $225 on the secondary.
He also shared some 2021 Sam Adams Utopias.
It was a good day.

Blackstack effed around and found out, by brewing a QUINTUPLE IPA (14.5%). Yeah. "Pigs Fly" is the name, yes, Pink Floyd-themed. Dangerously smooth.

This year's Schell's Snowstorm is one of their best. Four Rye Dark Ale
Agreed. And this year's Surly Darkness variants are all rather decent.
One bottle I have is a collab between Prairie (Bomb!) and Perennial (Abraxas). I am anxious to crack that bad boy; appropriately called Bombraxas.

BTW... this is indeed dangerously smooth.
The Parker's Hertiage Darkness is awesome, the cherry cold smoked probably needs some time to me. I haven't the nitro one yet.

It's good but I have enjoyed their doppels, stouts, or porters more than this years rye. When I visit my usual watering hole I will drink a Firebrick before this years Snowstorm.
In unrelated beer news I happened upon Odells Chocolate Lugene in the liquor store this week. Didn't know that they brought it back this year. It's so good to drink with a chocolatey snack.

Did they actually bring it back? (Honest) I thought that was done for a couple years ago, but I also know that is a beer that has staying power in the cellar.

Odell's website has it under their "limited run" tab so who knows if it is just a this year thing or what.
Either way, that's a damn good beer.

What started out as a "window-shopping" turned into an actual shopping. Stopped by Top Ten at Ridgedale tonight, and lo and behold:
Buffalo Trace: $27
Sazerac Rye: $32 ($33?)
Limit one bottle of each per customer, but that's a win. Given other stores' prices IF they get those bottles, I basically got the Sazerac for free.
Note: I would never pay more than $35 for Trace, I know better. 😉

I haven't seen Trace in Mankato other than in bars for quite a while...or at least at times when I've been looking.

Thanks to "flippers"/re-sellers on secondary market, it's turned into a highly allocated product. The stores figured out the secondary market, and cut out the middle man, so if you see a bottle in a store, it'll prob be around $50-60 (it should be around half that price). Additionally, distro favors restaurants/bars over stores.
Other products that have veered that way are Eagle Rare, Weller, Blanton's, and Elmer T Lee.

Finally got to try the 2023 Snowstorm... very well done.
Snowstorm - Schell's Brewery (schellsbrewery.com)
I scrolled back and I've pretty sure I've tried everyone since 2008.

Snowstorm never fails, same with Cave-Aged.
Tried the vanilla Abraxas (Perennial) (Imperial Stout with ancho chilis, cacao nibs, cinnamon, & extra vanilla) tonight, that is one heck of a banger.

Found these at a 711 here in Bangkok, although not cheap at $5 each.
Got home from Nebraska and swung into the liquor store to get some beer…Schells Bock is on the shelf! Heaven in a can. My favorite wintertime beer!

Buffalo Trace's Bourbon Cream seems to more prevalent lately (and not jacked prices: $25-30). Bought a bottle and tried it, meh. I don't get the hype. It's good, but not ZOMG NEED TO HAVE A BOTTLE!!!!! Back Channel brought back "F*ck That Guy" (named after Andrew Volstead, hint hint) and it was a good batch.

Finally tried the Duck Duck Beer by Grey Duck Brewing at the game last weekend. Wasn’t a BIG fan of it, but if they support Dinkytown Athletics, I can drink them while at the game.

Looks more like a melted Bomb Pop…

Yeah, I dunno if that is my style. I'm curious, of course, but on first glance, meh.
Tried the new Founders' KBS Spicy Chocolate. It's not even MN Spicy. It's good, but not as advertised. I do believe ketchup is spicier than this beer.

Given the gap in response, the KBS or the Mafia? I'm guessing Mafia, and yeah, diabeetus.

Had the day off, toodled around downtown Hopkins, stopped at the liquor store on Main St. Found this year's Sam Adams Utopias. Yayz! Better yet, great price. I was hearing about $280 for a bottle, they had it for $250. No clue how that little store got it, but I was more than happy to find it.
My habit of window-shopping pays off yet again.

btw if i needed another reason to retire to Thailand over the Philippines, the availability of micro beers ranks up there. 🤣
