I believe there used to be a fishing thread, searched but couldn’t find it so starting a new one.
BWCA permits became available today, we always go there for opener. Anyone else have any plans or traditions for opener? Can’t wait for the open water season!
Also going to Red in a couple weeks, anyone been there recently and have any tips or reports?
I feel like I need to get up north to that area sometime I don’t normally travel for fishing or do anything special for the opener since we basically live on the river we fish whenever on that. Went yesterday and picked up around 10 small large mouth biggest being maybe 2 lbs at best but throw everything back in the summer anyway unless it’s a wall mounter. Top water in backwater sloughs is mainly our fishing. The main channel is just too hectic after 10:00 a.m and just use my duck boat with a long shaft to fish the backwaters. Fun few hours yesterday, even got a small sunny on the floating rapala. Lure of the day yesterday.😁
I ice fished red last winter and it was a dead sea. I hated that lake. Big bowl with no structure.I believe there used to be a fishing thread, searched but couldn’t find it so starting a new one.

Every other year my buddies and I go to a lake in Canada called Hollinshead. One resort with about 10 cabins and no other buildings on the lake. It used to be a fly in only lake but it is accessible by road. I always highly recommend these private (leased) Canadian lakes. Just unplug and fish.
@bertogliat my girlfriend goes to Canada with her dad, and a few family members and kinda the same, it’s remote and limited cell service but catch fish, all trolling all day so I kinda just like to let them have their trip together. They enter in at Thunder Bay somewhere and not real far in from there. Last year in June they were in jackets a lot and wind. I don’t know I’m cold hunting 3 months in the fall I like it hot in summer.😁
I've been there when it's cold and we have the wood stove fired up and I've been there when it's so hot you're miserable. The worst is strong winds. Second worst is to sleep in cabins with no AC and you can't cool down. So I always pray for cool and calm.@bertogliat my girlfriend goes to Canada with her dad, and a few family members and kinda the same, it’s remote and limited cell service but catch fish, all trolling all day so I kinda just like to let them have their trip together. Yes. Canada walleye fishing is trolling lindy's. If you get sick of that you can cast spoons or spinners for big Northerns.
