The Athletic had there very early ranking of 2021 draft prospects yesterday. Michigan had 3 in the top 9:
3. Owen Power
4. Kent Johnson
9. Matthew Beniers
Kyler Kleven of Moorhead to UMD. I always liked his game.
Whioux Sanderson number 5 overall in the draft. Also take Kleven in the 2nd round.
UND is the farm team of Ottawa more than any team-NHL team combination ever.
2020 1st round
2020 2nd round
2019 2nd round
2018 1st round
2018 2nd round
2015 4th round
Only 3 college players selected in the first round.
Sanderson - UND - 5th
Holloway - uw - 14th
Brisson - UM - 29th
I don't subscribe but I know this now has Michigan guys 3 of the top 5 and 4 of the top 8. Insane.

8. L Hughes
10. Lucius
He has Knies at 31. His knock on both Lucius and Knies is average foot speed.

Sounds pretty typical for the Gopher forwards overall for the last five years or so. Walker one of the few exceptions.

Doesn’t help playing home games on a cavernous ice sheet where foot speed is at a premium. They’ve got to do something about Mariucci...and not 10 years from now.

If the forwards were strong skaters as a unit the big ice sheet could be an advantage. In college hockey the D units are not that developed yet that they can't get burned.

The UMN Athletic Department is about $100M in debt right now and are in financial trouble right now with coronavirus. They are like an investor who happened to leverage themeselves at the wrong time. Their donors have to do something about that, not 10 years from now and they are getting so much heat for gymnastics, tennis and T&F for some reason.
Donor money is gonna be earned from the play on the ice/field. In this climate no one is going to bail out the U just because.
I have no idea who this person is, but he has Wolverines at 1, 2, 7, 8, 15, 19 in 2021.
Kyle Kukkonen is crushing the elite league, I bet many schools trying to pry him away from Tech.

I'm sure they have tried from the beginning, and I'm surprised he has stuck with it. But they are giving a spot to his older brother, and I believe there is some family connection to the school as well. Only thing that could change is with the NHL starting to come into play this year.
Here’s a list of Minnesotans who I’ve seen sign their NLI. Feel free to add to the list.
Bennett Zmolek - Mankato
Justin Thompson - Long Island State
Kyle Kukkonen - Michigan Tech
Henry Nelson - Notre Dame
Griffin Ludtke - Nebraska Omaha
Donte Lawson - Bemidji
Charlie Lurie - Nebraska Omaha
Will Schimek - Providence
Bennett Schimek - Providence
Hobie Hedquist - North Dakota
Jack Smith - Duluth
George Grannis - Clarkson
Nick Portz - North Dakota
He was also being recruited by the Gophers and Bemidji St

Good for him, although I wish there was still a spot on Mn, but the back end is the least of our worries now.

Amazing how so much can change in one year.

We will see Boltmann sooner than we thought. He is joining ND for the start of the next part of this years schedule per Jess Myers.

Gophers definitely win the Faber-Boltmann trade.

Agree, the Gophers are currently loaded on the blue line & the style of play and size of home rink at Notre Dame appears to be a better for Boltmann.
Sounds like Jack St Ivany will transfer to BC. Big addition for them
Lucas McGregor, who was Lucia's last commit here and then was told by Motzko that he'd have to look elsewhere and eventually gave up hockey to try and become a pro golfer in California, announced he's going to play hockey again and is now committed to St. Thomas.
Former Gopher commit Jack Jensen from Eden Prairie has committed to CC.

[Looks like another nice pickup from a non-traditional location for msu. And to get ahead of you a-holes, he's not even 29-ysars-old.

When's his birthday?
Saw this on GH: Saw a note in the District 196 Spotlight magazine that gets sent to families in the district that Ratzlaff will be playing both football and hockey for Wisconsin.
I didnt realize he was going to play both.

He wont. Football isnt over until January and spring practice usually starts in March. No way that happens.
Missed this earlier.
I remember this kid in the tournament. Ungainly stride like a giraffe, but really good hands for a big kid. I hope he does well.

And now ASU
Sean Farrell (Harvard) is going to break the USHL record for points in this millennium. He has 101 in 53 games and needs three more to tie Kevin Roy (104 in 59GP).
Steel teammate Matthew Coronato (also Harvard) is trying to become the second this millennium to hit 50 goals. He has 48 in 51. Roy had 54 in 59.
Two big reasons I have Harvard as a top 10 team this year.

Farrell 100% would have been playing college this year if Harvard had a season. Coronato is still just a high school senior so what he's doing is super impressive and has gotten him into the first round conversation. That Chicago team and also Harvard next year should be fun to follow.
UND gets their second goalie for next year, a Swede that has been playing third tier professional hockey there.

I don't know how he's eligible.

I would think some kind of an investigation would be in order.
Scott Morrow, potential first rounder, seems to be flipping from UND to the national champs because UND wanted to delay him a year. UND has likely prioritized Brent Johnson, whose stock has been climbing rapidly and could be drafted ahead of Morrow.

Now that's good news. Did the Fighting Hawks potentially grab one too many defensemen from the transfer portal? If the risk was losing Morrow completely in asking him to defer a year, I'd much rather bring both him and Brent Johnson in instead of getting two final years of eligibility from either Chris Jandric or Brady Ferner.
Unless they feel that Morrow isn't ready after playing another year of hockey that is a step down from where he should be playing, that decision is a no brainer to me. I mean, we are talking about a potential first round talent vs. transfers from Alaska-Fairbanks and RPI, neither of whom played in a game the entire 2020-21 season.
Assume this means Stramel accelerated school…
Judging by his Instagram seems Whitelaw will go to Wisconsin also.

Stramels high school teammate at Rosemount Luke Levandowski has been committed to wisco for awhile so not a ton of surprise.
Not too worried, we have a very skilled and very deep forward prospect pipeline.

Isn't he too young to receive offers? :confused2:
Or was I in a coma and it's now August 1st?
He probably accelerated to catch up in grade with his teammates and not have to play a year in the USHL before going to college.

This is sad. I feel bad for him having to play at Wisconsin. Wisconsin is going to screw him up.
After Ratzlaff going there too, Rosemount is dead to me.

It appears the feeling in mutual...going the other way ?
My back yard borders said town. I can go throw some dog turds at it if it makes you feel better!
Although the new neighbors back there have a beehive on their septic mound just across the line so I don’t want to get too close. ?
Mason Wheeler committed to Mankato. Not sure for this season or next. He's a D man, and not sure he was on the radar but we know we'll need some replacements next summer. He went to Rosemount, though, so he was never really an option.
