Gophers would be Senior Casey Mittelstadt with a goal tonight for Buffalo Wink

If Buffalo could have a mulligan on Casey, they would chuck him in a half second. ?

Is there a point to the Casey Middlestadt negativism, or is this a case of people predicting he'd fail just wanting to be right and then gleefully tabulating his troubles?

I felt he left college way too early, but I'm pulling for him to make it in the NHL. Hopefully, he can put enough of his game together to become a journeyman player of sorts, but I don't get the schadenfreude shtick around here when a player goes on to struggle at the next level.

As a fan of the game, I am as disappointed as the next guy when a player who comes in with hype lays an egg on the ice. I can even be accused of making an unflattering observation now and then, but overall I wish for good people to find success. There have been a lot of players here who have been savaged for nothing more than doing what the coaches asked of them and representing the program well along the way. That's a shame.

I think it’s pretty much just me at this point. There aren’t any likes for my comment. ? Until he bulks up and shows he can stay on the puck and score goals when he’s not on the PP there’s not much to root for other than his birthplace and year at Minnesota. I’ll add that I think he’s wasting a great talent and that annoys me.

It's one dude being a dick. Casey is merely 22 and already has 100+ games played. He needs to get better for sure but I see the potential and hope for the best for him.

You make it sound like there are a bunch of folks hoping he fails. I only see one.

Casey's the textbook example of the kid who left college too soon.

Rem had 10 points ( 8 G & 2 A ) in 8 games this month. Novak had 10 points ( 2 G & 8 A) in 8 games as well this month. They are teammates for Nashville's farm team in Chicago.

I'm surprised Pitlick isn't playing up, and it would surprise me to see Novak get an NHL roster spot.

Novak's skating makes him more of an AHL type. I expect something similar with Reedy.

Yeah, I don't see Reedy playing in the NHL. Ranta is the kid with the NHL skating ability, but he needs work in a lot of other areas. Other than him, I don't see any NHL forwards on the Gophers' roster...possibly Nelson with his big body, but he's a project at this point, too.

Chicago is technically a Hurricanes affiliate, but they are “borrowing” the Nashville players because their affiliate the Milwaukee Admirals chose not to play this season.

Always awesome to see former Gophers tearing it up!

If you were to just listen to that without seeing the video you'd think Cousins was wiping the floor with Lindgren.

If anything the fight was pretty even and nobody really got in a damaging blow.

No real damage done there. That was strictly a undercard preliminary bout in WBA terms.

The Athletic did an article on the state of the Sabres. They interviewed former Sabres captains on their thoughts of the current franchise and it included this quote on CM.

Quote:
Casey Mittelstadt is an example. The Sabres should have told him not to leave college after one year. A good organization looks at a kid like that, who didn’t even dominate college hockey, and refuses to rush him. There was no point. He should have stayed two more years and turned pro as a much better center. The 2017 eighth overall draft choice should be a difference maker by now. He has the talent and vision. As of today, he’s nothing.

Well that paragraph describes the CM ordeal perfectly. My goodness. The most hyped and most skilled Gopher in a decade ended up with a massively forgettable Gopher career and what is tracking toward a massively forgettable pro career.

He definitely fought some demons. My wife and I saw him in the bar at the Lutsen Resort in the (I think the early to mid 90s) and even then you could tell he wasn't right then. Hell, I didn't recognize him, my buddy from Lutsen pointed him out to us. Feel bad for Pav's family as it seemed they tried hard to help him.

Kind of a confusing headline when he doesn't have a point in the NHL

I wonder how Neil Sheehy and Paul Ostby would comment on all of this, seems like a kid who thought he had a long runway and then everything accelerated too quick. Hope Casey figures it out.

The NHL is second to the NBA on shelf life. If you come out, you had better be ready to compete immediately. Flavors don’t last a month.

Mittelstadt with a nice assist. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/spectacular-goal-buffalo-sabres-vs-014738470.html. He also wins the faceoff. BUF loses in OT.
