Four years in Mankato makes him more local than Kessel:

I bet Bjugstad is over joyed to get out of the dumpster fire known as the Florida Panthers. I really hope he can stay healthy and show the promise he had while here. From all the things I've read and seen through the years, he really seems like a great guy and was a fan favorite in Florida.

I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.

I took a geology class, obviously with a lot of athletes, the table of hockey players (guys like Haula, Matson, Schmidt, etc) was VERY reserved, and didn't talk to anyone who wasn't a hockey player. Bjugstad was the exception though, he was the only one who would sit elsewhere and talk to us "normals" LoL

Super cool dude, I've always been hoping that his NHL career would take off. Hopefully this gives it a jump start!

Quite the day. Huge opportunity for Nick. Even got his old number 27. :dup:

As crazy as it sounds looking at the numbers Blake is slowing down so hopefully he picks it back up to hit 100.

In probably a bit over a month Cullen will become the first Minnesotan to play in 1500 NHL games. The 20th player ever. Crazy.

Only the second American (Chelios). Housley got to 1495. Modano got to 1499 and Mike Commodore swears Babcock purposely kept him at that number.

If true what an a hole.

Does JBSU have any kind of big banner for Cullen? He deserves it. I think there is one if I remember. Also for Hedican?

It appears the Blackhawks are going to release Luc Snuggerud from their minor league team. He has been plagued by concussions. Too bad he had a ton of potential.

We talked about how nice of a guy Nick Bjugstad is. Here is an article about it.

Love the story about giving a random fan a ride in Florida.

Since I like numbers I was curious which Gophers have hit on big contracts. For next year, total salary (signing plus salary):

Nate Schmidt will be the seventh highest paid defenseman. Woah.

Gophers have three of the top 30 earning D and 5 of the top 50.

Wheeler will be tied for ninth highest paid forward.

As far as total contract value, Gopher defensemen are getting much richer than their forward counterparts.

Kinda makes sense, especially if some of them like Schmidt signed contracts more recently rather than taking a long contract a while back. Wheeler is the only forward I can think of that signed one recently (and has the seniority to be a UFA).

Other than Mittelstadt which is tbd there aren't really any forwards with contracts expiring that could hit the jackpot.

When you look at all former Gophers who are now regulars in the NHL, would it be fair to say that today's numbers with big contracts are at an all-time high, and have maybe peaked, at least for the immediate future?

That's nice. CM is probably better than Lias. At this point his draft position was fine.

According to who? a hack player from Chicago Circle, a D1 team that couldn’t even beat D3 UW Superior in the 1970’s. Quite the authority on “evaluating” hockey ability LoL :bored:

I've watched 50 games since he's been in the NHL and I didn't think he was lights out when he was a Gopher, either. He's wrapping up year two of his three year entry level deal. Let's see if he's still a stiff next year. I'm betting on it.

So you have the Buffalo Sabres satellite sports package and have watched all of CM’s 50 games? Is that what you’re saying? ?

I think what this means is he was on an AHL contract, and now he on NHL deal. It allows Buffalo to be able to recall him if one of the NHL goalies get hurt if they make the playoffs. A couple of other teams did deals like this today. More of a paperwork thing than anything else.

CM has the second worst FO percentage for players with 400+ face offs. I noticed that last year that he struggled with that even at the college level. His peers down there are okay players, though... Kuznetsov, Petterson, and Barzal.

Idk if they have tried him on Eichel's wing at all but they should.
