NWS says 100% chance of 1-2 inches here, same as they said last weekend when we got .1. In other words they must think it’s not going to rain.

We were supposed to only get about 1/4 to 1/2 today because they said it was going north. We are at 1.9 so far with more to come. Gives us about 8 inches in the last week

We got .8 here. I didn’t get to see it though as we spent the day at Goat Ridge Brewing in New London. :dup:

Hearing some rumbling, and seeing hints of a light show in the west metro. Whether or not it comes to full fruition, we’ll see.

It just started raining like hell here…heavy and loud sounding.

Yep, the rain is missing me and hitting you, per Wunderground radar. No rain here at all. Just the sounds and sights.

It didn’t last too long here either…which is sad because I don’t think I’ve had a night all summer where I’ve sat on my porch and just see Mother Nature completely pissed off

Ditto. I’m either already asleep (and it happened in the wee hours of the morning) or Mother Nature decided to split off to the north or south metro, not cutting directly through.

Well we had a huge thunder clap and flash of lightning here that took out the power for about 15 minutes here. Some very heavy winds too.

The wind was nasty here in Mankato around 2:45 this morning. Neighbor lost a tree in his front yard, luckily I only lost a small branch from my tree in my back yard. Driving around the neighborhood on my way to work I saw a lot of downed branches and garbage containers all over the roads.

About 3:30 am our power flickered on and off a couple times but stayed on. I had no sooner reset my alarm than it flickered on and off half a dozen times before going out until about 7:30. It sounded like a little hail for a minute too.

I woke up to find three emails from spectrum telling me my service was out and a voicemail that it came back on. Yeah. Cause it wasn’t obvious. 😂. Thankfully calls are muted before 9am or I would have been pissed to be woken up by an automated call when I already lost most of my sleep last night.

These emails are frustratingly needed. If you live in my neighborhood when cable goes out you have 5 people asking the whole neighborhood if their internet/cable is out and what happened. Repeated texts until someone finally steps up and calls Comcast to ask what happened. People have no brains anymore to figure stuff out on their own and need instant information.

Except the emails came three hours after power went out and the email/phone call telling me it was restored was an hour late. What’s the point then?

Saw now real damage. Just several trash cans tipped over and some trees missing a branch or two. My sister lives about 1 mile northeast of us and all she saw was the neighbors trampoline stuck in tree.

We had good size hail, and the wind was whipping probably 60+ mph when the storm blew through around 3:30am. Lots of leaves on the ground this morning from the hail, but I didn’t see a single tree down in my neighborhood. I’m pleasantly surprised about that.

Lots of medium sized and small branches down in my area. One tree at the park by me got split in half but no big trees knocked down/fully uprooted that I’ve seen so far.

We had some very gusty winds here around 12:30. One report of 70+ mph. Pushed down some of my soybeans. Hail came 1st, but luckily little damage other than leaves from trees down. Had 6/10ths of rain ( that made it in the gauge ). It is amazing that when we begged for rain this summer, we got none, and now when I want to start harvesting soybeans we get some every 3 days. More in the forecast for Monday, but then, fingers crossed, dry for a few days.

Here in SSP it seems like a lot of people are without power. In our little neck of the woods we have power and rarely lose power. However the houses across the street are “newer” (built in the 80’s instead of 60’s) and they lose power a lot more often than we do.

I will have to combine in 1 direction in parts of the fields that are blown over. ( combine into the direction they are leaning. so if they are leaning north, I need to come from the north, otherwise if I come from the south they won’t feed into the combine) Soybeans are much easier to combine when they are blown over, just takes more time. If corn goes down or is twisted, it is a nightmare.

Thanks… know nothing about harvesting corn or soybeans. Though growing up I had chances to harvest wheat and barely out in Montana.

No problem. I’m always willing to try to answer questions about farming. I’m just a small operation, so I’m more old school than some of the bigger operations.

There’s a good size swath by Sanborn where the corn is totally flat. Gonna by a tough harvest for them.

One is right near my work (cliff/13). I haven’t driven by there yet but will be curious to see the damage on my way in tomorrow. We saw a lot of tree branches down around the cliff and pilot knob area when were out and about yesterday.

So thankful we didn’t have any damage as most of our yard is canopied by giant oaks and we live in a pretty heavily wooded area, only a couple miles from where the tornadoes were.

I think this happened a few years ago and it hit mostly Northern Cali. The Oroville dam partially failed after water in the reservoir topped the dam.

This also looks to hit San Fran and north into Oregon. Southern California won’t get relief.

    From the CNN story.

    Quote:

Burn scars — the charred landscape — left behind after the Dixie Fire, near Mount Lassen and the Caldor Fire, not far from South Lake Tahoe, remain susceptible to flash floods and debris flows. This deadly, fast-moving mass made of water, rock, soil, and vegetation can wreak havoc on communities downstream, destroying homes and infrastructure. These geologic hazards are a byproduct of burned soil, which can be as water repellent as pavement.

Some friends and I were talking about it Sat. One of them, a Brit ex-pat, was flying to here from Washington (the state) on that night. He was amazed at the amount of snow, and asked how we really dealt with it.

I’ve never had a Facebook account. I don’t hear about the blizzard except on here when people make fun of those who bring up the blizzard.

I was just going to say, Iowa must be sucking and North Dakota blowing again.

    Hmmm… phrasing.

Icy glaze, shards piling up on the SE shore of ML.

Big old whitecaps mixing the water all up.

    Absolutely raw outside.

Ice was out maybe a third of a mile last night.

Now it is 10 yds of bobbing shards.

I saw that article and thought that was a weird comparison. The big island has 2 13+K peaks and Denver is at 5K….of course the big island has more snow

    ZOMG SNOW.

Start up the news machine now on accidents and spinouts. ;)

Have to admit, we’ve been really lucky so far with temps this season. I really would like a White Christmas, though.

Happened to wife, daughter and myself once when we got stuck in the hotel parking lot. Then after the games we soon learned that 94 was closed due to drifting. When they opened it up it was a very slow drive back home. Didn’t want to end up in the ditch like so many others…

I’ve done the drive through SW MN and NW Iowa on the way to see my parents in Omaha when it took 14 hours due to the roads. You’d think after the first time I’d have learned but it happened 3 different times

To make matters worse, we’re currently watching our team get beat in the 3rd place game, in the Ralph’s practice rink.

    It just keeps getting better.

Grew up with wind almost all the time before coming to Minnesota. Though the last couple months it’s been extremely windy in the southern suburbs. Maybe living in downtown Mpls. for over 20 years I never realized it until I moved to my current house.

Have a lot of wind in the 494/55 area in general.

Right now, really windy by Ridgedale. It was really windy this morning, but died down during the day. It’s picked back up hardcore.

We can expect some cold weather and snow in Minnesota this time of year, but what’s up with all the wind? I’ve got some serious downed branches in the backyard to clean up.

D2D, I mentioned the wind a couple of times in the last month or two. I don’t recall the wind being this bad in the last 27 years of being in Minnesota.

If you’re talking about sustained winds over a period of a week or more, I completely agree. Of course we’ve had periodic storms (blizzards!) periodically in the past.

I remember one in particular in the late 70’s (’77?) when we rented a little cabin on Lake Marion in Lakeville. This one was really bad, way below zero wind chill with near zero visibility. Our power went out and it was getting seriously cold in our little cabin, with nothing else we could do to keep warm. So we just sat there and felt it getting colder and colder. Then all of a sudden we heard a knock on the door and it was a neighbor, who lived down a few houses and made it to our place, all bundled up on his snowmobile, making sure we were OK. His power was out too, but fortunately he had his fireplace going, which was a lifesaver for all of us…

Terribly, we learned the next day that a woman perished in the blinding blizzard very close to where we lived. Living proof on how deadly those winter blizzards can be.

Yep… that is what I meant the wind for the last month or two.

Agreed. Individual days have been much worse. But the fact that there have been relatively high winds to this degree, for this many days in a row is kind of odd.
