Looks like he’s down by Red Wing. And based on the radar image I’m looking at, the hailstorm makes complete sense there.

I was looking how the weather was shaping up for the storms tonight on Weather Underground and was looking at how temps are in the region. Mankato is at 53…Omaha is at 92. That’s no beuno! Something’s brewing in Iowa for sure.

I checked to see where storm chasers are in Iowa and they are pretty much lined up on Highway 20 between Sioux City and I-35.

Had some rain and then some hail. Now waiting to see what the next round brings.

Drove up north this morning to visit my parents. Between the rain and melting ice on the lake, the Mille Lacs fog machine was working overtime. About 1/2 of the drive along the west shore, visibility was under 50 yds.

The wife and kid were flying back from Toronto tonight. They turned north as they approached Wisconsin over Lake Michigan, and didn’t turn south until they were over Grand Rapids. Got a pretty cool lightning video out the window though, I hear.

All the wind today. 8th Ave/Main St in Hopkins has always been a wind corridor, but today is insane.

I’m not complaining… I can skip spring and have 3 months (June-Aug.) of nice summer weather. 3 solid months (Sept.-Nov.) of late fall weather and the rest the 6 months can be winter teens to 30’s in temps.

The weather this spring has not been friendly to the farmers. Ground still too cold around here to plant corn and is not drying out because of the lack of the heat.  The last couple of years I planted around Apr 25th, and I’m hoping maybe by the end of next week to get started.

Something like the 3rd worst April on record or something… I read something like that from Sven, but I may be misquoting.

The storm slid just north of us but it still rained like a mofo here in Blaine.  It looked like the rain drops were the size of baseballs.  Storm clouds blazed in from the west an incredible speeds.  It was very dark.  After the thickest clouds passed the rain came and the winds blew hard from the East.  Weird.

I was planning to fire up the sprinklers to dissolve the pre-emergent crabgrass preventer.  I guess mother nature took care of that for me so long as it didn’t all wash away.

My dad said it got pitch black in Big Lake at 9:15 and had hail by 9:30

I told him the guys offering to inspect his roof for damage should be showing up by 10:00 :D

Half dollar to golf ball sized hail in West St Paul about 20 min ago.

I saw a tweet yesterday from a Chisago County Sheriff’s Deputy holding hailstone the size of a large grapefruit. IIRC they called it volleyball sized.

The roofing inspector came to my house at 10:00 this morning and told me i had sufficient damage to get a new roof. Since then I’ve been hit twice more with hail ranging from nickle to half dollar size. I’ve never seen anything like this.

Long siren still sounding —  hopefully no damage in our area, or anywhere for that matter.

We are under a tornado warning.  Electricity went out briefly, which doesn’t happen in our neighborhood. Sounds like hail is starting.  Sirens are blaring.

I don’t want another insurance claim.

Looks like I mostly dodged the worst of this storm at my house in western Woodbury.  Rained buckets and a little pea size hail, but not much wind at all.

We got it too – naturally right after we got our 3 year old to sleep.   We had tons of rain but almost no wind.

While we were in the basement they said on WCCO that downtown Minneapolis recorded rain at one point at a rate of 8″ per hour

Much ado about nothing.

Cloud to cloud lightning with no boom.  A little rain and no real wind.  A few ticks of pea sized hail on the window.

At least we have no repairs to make.

The lightning was (IMO) the show tonight. It was SO constant.

After it looked like things were going to be calmer than forecasted sh&t got real around 7:00 in Mankato.  Those winds were no joke at the head of the storm, thank goodness they only lasted a couple minutes.  They turned the sirens on for the winds which I don’t blame the county for that.  The storm really wasn’t much, some good rain with lightning and thunder but I didn’t hear any hail.

A lot of areas around my West Mankato neighborhood lost electricity and a few towns around did as well.  I drove around the neighborhood on my way into work this morning and I only saw a few small branches on the ground, that is surprising.

My normally overly anxious dog fared really good.  She is a very anxious dog already and storms usually put her over the top but she did really well.
