That’s not what determines the call or not so…

Up 1-0 against Mexico, after they went down to 10 men. The second half we’ve looked really good.

Tyler Adams with his first international goal! I’ve got very high hopes for that kid. He looks like a player.

The future just looks so bright right now. Especially up front. Tyler Adams, Tim Weah, and Christian Pulisic could make up a fearsome trio.

Would be nice to develop a true striker now, too.

Don’t forget about Julian Green. He came on late in the first half and completely changed the tone of the game. He’s not the savior we all wanted him to be, but he can be very good for us.

Yep, that’s true. Could be a super-sub option going forward, for sure. Still only what, 23?

I’m hoping that Miazga and CCV will lock down their spots and be our CB pairing. Although John Broke 2 might have something to say about that.

3-0 loss. Not ideal, but the team is going to have to take some of these lumps as they grow together.

First and foremost, USA Soccer needs to hire a manager.

Not a splash signing, but he seems to be a solid manager. At least now we can finally start moving forward and building an identity for this squad. Everything under Sarachan was so vanilla.

They range in price from 9€ for a cheap seat at a group match up to 84€ for a good seat at the Final. At least that’s what the list prices were. No idea what the resale market is like.

I have zero problem with scoring that many goals as well.

That said, “Why are they celebrating like that after 10 goals? It’s totally disrespectful and makes us look classless, right?” ~ my 9yo daughter

And, yes, I think most would be saying that to a men’s side as well. My thoughts go back to Germany pounding Brazil 7-1. For the last 3 or so goals, when the outcome was easily discernible, the German players would bow their heads after scoring a goal. There is something to be said about winning with class.

I have no problem with celebrating goals. To some extent. Doing choreographed celebrations when you’re up by that much is bound to rub people the wrong way. You could show your excitement in much more muted celebrations.

Do some fist pumps and gutteral screams of excitement. Get pumped up! You just scored a goal in the damn World Cup, that’s awesome! There’s just no need to do some big huge celebration when you’re beating someone by 8+ goals. There’s being excited, and then there’s being a dick.

The whole “would you be telling MEN to not celebrate?!” thing is dumb. Of course we would. I criticized high school boys (STA) for doing their choreographed crowd participation celebrations while absolutely annihilating a bunch of poor Single A schools.

Both US goals were scored via penalty, the last one was a pretty soft penalty for the overall physical style of play the entire game. However, the Spain goal was a gift from our goalkeeper and a very suspect defense yesterday. I don’t think the US got extremely advantageous calls, but the game sure could have gone the other way pretty easily.

You put your cleats up into someone’s shins in the penalty area, it’s a penalty. No matter how soft it is. It was a legit win. Spain’s game plan yesterday was the beat up the US. The ref let them get away with it too.

I thought the first half was pretty solid. France had the possession, but didn’t really have many dangerous chances. I thought we looked much more dangerous on the counter than they did in possession.

The second half hour away from them a bit, which I think you cab expect from a very good team in a World Cup while they’re playing at home.

        Survive and advance!

I’ll admit to not being much of a soccer fan, but I’ve been watching all the U.S. games so far and have been entertained. Just some random questions/comments:

        > There are way too many fake injuries. The girls go down writhing in pain, grabbing their leg or knee and doing their best to sell a foul to the referee. Then when nothing is called they get right back in the play, often without the slightest limp. Soccer needs to do something to cut down on this nonsense, like maybe adding an embellishment or “diving” penalty when the player is obviously not hurt.

        > There is not enough scoring. I’d like to see them do something with the offsides rule, maybe go to a “blue line” approach like hockey. Or something else that would create more offense. Going a whole half with just a couple of shots on net isn’t enough.

        > The penalty for unintentional hand balls (in the box or whatever it’s called) is too harsh. It results in a goal against about 90% of the time.

        > Why does the clock run backwards, with “extra time” added for stoppages? How much time is added and then left before the game actually ends is kind of a guess.

That said I am really enjoying the games, and very much hope the U.S. finds a way to win it. I get the feeling they’ll have to play better to get the job done.

The offsides IS a “blue line” rule. The last defender is a moving blue line, so to speak.

Yes. I guess I’m used to other sports like football, basketball and hockey where the clock winds down to 0:00, and when it reaches 0:00 in the last period (or overtime) the game’s over, and they never add time at that point.

The added time is b/c they want to play 90 minutes of soccer. So during stoppages, the refs add the time up (not sure how, to be honest) and add it at the end.

Yeah I figured that out, just seems odd and not real accurate.

I don’t think it’s accurate either, but I don’t know the nuances of that sort of thing in the game.

So what you’re saying is only intentional hand balls in the box are penalties?

If he is saying that he is wrong. If a player say jumps in anticipation of heading a ball, or while lined up in a wall during a free kick from outside the box – and their arm drifts away from their body and the ball makes contact somewhere on their hand/arm – it is going to be called a penalty almost every time. If the ball strikes somewhere on the hand/arm while their arm is at their side and/or contact is judged to be unintentional (close enough distance the contact was unavoidable) and it’s most likely judged it was inadvertent then it most likely will not be called a penalty.

No, it’s not. He explained why and what the deciding factor are. Your response was completely vague.

I thought the U.S. was a little lucky to pull this one out. A very close offsides call review reversed what appeared to be a good goal by England. And the U.S. goalie coming up huge on a penalty kick in the waning minutes preserved the Americans’ lead in the waning minutes.

The U.S. played without Megan Rapinoe who reportedly was out with a pulled hamstring. Or was she possibly held out for some other reason???

She said after the game that it was her hamstring. She said she should be good to go for the championship game. Just too hard to recover in 3 days.

I guess you could say the US was lucky, but once again they got a lead and held on. That’s not lucky. If they needed to press to get another goal late, I’m sure they could do it. Luckily for them they haven’t been put in that situation yet.

I would say yes and no to this. The US was the better side on the whole and the goal was technically offsides. Plus the PK England was given was pretty iffy so you could say it, “evened out” the disallowed goal. Had ENG tied it – whether or not they accumulated the 2nd yellow and subsequent red to play with 10 – I thought the US controlled play enough they would have been the favorites to retake the lead eventually even if it went to OT.

I thought the penalty was iffy as well. I watched that replay 20 times and was shocked she gave the penalty.

On the offside VAR made the right call but if games are going to add 10-15 minutes then they really need to rethink what they are looking at
