Not sure I saw anyone around here mention The Alienist, but I watched both seasons and I enjoyed them both. Some plot holes in the 2nd season, but the set designs and costume, production, and cast on the whole were quite good.

I watched Ep 1 of the Pirate series on Netflix and I will Ep 2 a chance before cutting it off. I didn’t get very far with their Samurai series and this one is feeling a bit the same. I prefer history and less reenacted drama.

Mayans MC S3, Ep 3:

I won’t post about this anymore if no one else is watching it. Sending out the Bat Signal. It ramped up hardcore this season. The difference between Sutter being involved (as the previous two seasons) and now is noticeable. I know there was controversy with Sutter (and frankly, I think he’s a complete brash a-hole genius), but handing off the show was the best move he made. I very much look forward to how this series goes.

Mayans is one of the shows I’ve been meaning to watch but i didn’t watch S1 or 2 so I’ve got some catching up to do.

The Mexican culture (as opposed to the white trash in SOA) is a huge difference in Mayans, despite the Mayans being located in the US. Lots of Mex-US crossover. Traditions, ways of life, etc.

I am enjoying the 3rd season very much too. Bummed about Coco but that will be an interesting story line to see how it plays out. If this show goes on a couple seasons, I could see EZ being El Presidente.

Coco is bumming me out. He’s loco, but good-hearted. I’m expecting 5-6 seasons (this would include a split last season, as has been the trend for shows like this). I’m guessing EZ becoming El Presidente was Kurt’s main goal (it’s what he knows, given SOA), but now that he’s gone, who knows?

Yes, yes, yes to everything. The first 2 seasons were somewhat disappointing for me after being a huge fan of SOA. I even considered deleting the recent recordings. I ended up watching episodes 1 and 2 the other day which happened to coincide with the recording of episode 3. I then watched that one. I enjoyed those 3 episodes much more than the previous seasons.

Falcon and Winter Soldier episode 2 was also good.

I love the chemistry between Sam and Bucky. They were really fun together in the previous MCU movies in their scenes together and it has carried over to the show.

They definitely introduced a theme that will be very familiar to MCU fans and will likely be used to tie into future movies as well.

Mighty Ducks: Game Changers (DIS+)

First ep dropped last night, 30 min eps, 10 ep season.

It is pure cheesy fun. It does not pretend to be anything else, and that’s fine with me. Definitely check it out.

I agree, but you know what? It wasn’t anymore cheesy than the original Mighty Ducks movie…even the 2nd one was cheesy. The 3rd one was the only one close to not being cheesy. I liked the episode, but damn near all the preview highlights happened in the first episode so I hope it keeps being as “good” as it is.

The thing I can’t stand is how they present the “format” of youth hockey. They could create the hard-luck kids story angle still without the non-MN youth model.

That’s how the Mighty Ducks originally “started” and they wanted to keep it that way. However, that is why you also have all the MN references. The Current had him on for an interview last week.

Ok I wasn’t sure what you meant originally but now I do. Yes, outside of the very original one with the “District 5” being somewhat close to association lines, the rest ends up being more of a AAA/private hockey model where regardless of where you live you can play or in the case of the show, start a whole new team to be in a league.

I watched the first three episodes of Invincible on Amazon Prime last night. If you’re a fan of superhero comics I’d say it’s a must watch, but maybe not for young kids.

Whoa. That’s a lot of firepower.

I suspect it was a bit of a perfect storm of the comic author also having created The Walking Dead, a lot of TV and movie production being halted due to the pandemic, and voice acting being something you can do while mostly isolated, but yeah, heavy hitters. However it’s not distracting at all. I was surprised by a couple names I saw when I checked the IMDB page after watching the first episode. I didn’t recognize the voice until I knew who it was.

Starting watching it this evening. I would say “uncomfortable and intense” is an understatement.

I continue to be enamored with Daniel Brühl’s work. He’s just so damn good in everything I see him in, and this is no exception.

Yep. As usual, Marvel hit an absolute home run with his casting as Baron Zemo. He’s just so good.

I also LOVE the casting choice for John Walker.

I watched S1 (5 episodes) of BBC’s Line of Duty (now available on Netflix streaming) and it was brilliant through the first 3, but the plot became ridiculously convoluted by E4 and the wrap up in E5 wasn’t much better. I liked it enough to give S2 a try but if they don’t tighten it up a bit I’ll drop off quickly.

I liked that one but felt it could have been reduced in length by half.

Just finished the Serpent on Netflix. Highly recommend this mini-series and it is based on the crimes of serial killer Charles Sobhraj. I thought it was a great mystery show to get into.

I just started watching Mayans a couple weeks ago and have binged it all the way to the current episode. Things are definitely reaching a boiling point across the board. I agree that this isn’t about one character and their demons, this show is about each character though EZ gets the focus it is really all about each character and their story. I have found that I enjoy Mayans more than SOA, much less suspension of disbelief.

I agreed with your last sentence until this week. Never would a club battle charter vs. charter. What was shown in the last episode is beyond the realm of possibility.

And overall, Sutter (writer/co-creator) left. Not too much cartel/Agent Potter stuff lately.

Thank gawd on the Potter absence…that is a character from SOA is waaay over the top. The Galindo angle I didn’t mind until this season because Miguel has turned into a spazz but sooner or later he is going to return that call from the medical examiner to start that storyline I would imagine.

I will admit to watch SOA. Way way way over the top on MC ” badness” in my civilian opinion.

I like motorcycles so for me I wanted to see riding scenes vs crimes being committed.

I’ve never really watched “Mayans” & that has to do with me not being into Softails, lowered bikes, & fish tail pipes.

I will say there are MANY more posts on this site that walk the line and even cross the line of what would be considered a political post and they stay. I thought Rube’s was pretty neutral and discussed television and his opinion of the show and who produced it, not his opinion of the actual content of said show.

W Kamau Bell’s “United Shades Of America” new season started tonight on CNN. Subject: Policing In America.

I am a big fan of him and his show. He forces conversations, no matter how uncomfortable, without really rabble-rousing the masses. It’s an intelligent, well-thought-out presentation each episode. Highly HIGHLY recommend.

Bonus: very interactive convo w/him and the followers on the Tweeter Machine, generally very respectful comments and discussion, not argumentative (there are a couple strays, there are always some of those).

I just started watching “Loudermilk” on Amazon Prime. It centers on Ron Livingston as “Sam Loudermilk, a recovering alcoholic and substance abuse counselor with a bad attitude. Although he has his drinking under control, Loudermilk discovers that when your life is a mess, getting clean is the easy part.” I started watching it after realizing Brian Regan, one of my favorite comedians, is in the cast. I have to say I’m really enjoying this show. So funny. Loudermilk’s straight-forward communication style, especially as a substance abuse counselor just works. I’m only 4 episodes into Season 1 (season 3 just premiered not too long ago) but I’d highly recommend. Not as good as Ted Lasso (that has turned into my favorite “current” show right now), but definitely good.
