::Not sure I saw anyone around here mention The Alienist, but I watched both seasons and I enjoyed them both. Some plot holes in the 2nd season, but the set designs and costume, production, and cast on the whole were quite good. I watched Ep 1 of the Pirate series on Netflix and I will Ep 2 a chance before cutting it off. I didn’t get very far with their Samurai series and this one is feeling a bit the same. I prefer history and less reenacted drama.

I just happened to catch it when it aired on Comedy Central. I too haven’t watched in years. I will second this recommendation to watch.

::Mayans MC S3, Ep 3: I won’t post about this anymore if no one else is watching it. Sending out the Bat Signal. It ramped up hardcore this season. The difference between Sutter being involved (as the previous two seasons) and now is noticeable. I know there was controversy with Sutter (and frankly, I think he’s a complete brash a-hole genius), but handing off the show was the best move he made. I very much look forward to how this series goes.
And of course, the debut of the Mighty Ducks series on Dis+ starting Fri….

::I’m looking forward to how Falcon and Winter Soldier plays out. The first episode was pretty entertaining – the opening scene with Sam rescuing the hostage was a lot of fun. Same with some of the flashbacks from Bucky. I really grew to like both of those characters a lot and am very interested in how they’re going to handle the post-Endgame world. Beauner

The Mexican culture (as opposed to the white trash in SOA) is a huge difference in Mayans, despite the Mayans being located in the US. Lots of Mex-US crossover. Traditions, ways of life, etc.

I am enjoying the 3rd season very much too. Bummed about Coco but that will be an interesting story line to see how it plays out. If this show goes on a couple seasons, I could see EZ being El Presidente. The Rube

Coco is bumming me out. He’s loco, but good-hearted. I’m expecting 5-6 seasons (this would include a split last season, as has been the trend for shows like this). I’m guessing EZ becoming El Presidente was Kurt’s main goal (it’s what he knows, given SOA), but now that he’s gone, who knows?

Yes, yes, yes to everything. The first 2 seasons were somewhat disappointing for me after being a huge fan of SOA. I even considered deleting the recent recordings. I ended up watching episodes 1 and 2 the other day which happened to coincide with the recording of episode 3. I then watched that one. I enjoyed those 3 episodes much more than the previous seasons. The Rube

::Falcon and Winter Soldier episode 2 was also good. I love the chemistry between Sam and Bucky. They were really fun together in the previous MCU movies in their scenes together and it has carried over to the show.
They definitely introduced a theme that will be very familiar to MCU fans and will likely be used to tie into future movies as well.

It is pure cheesy fun. It does not pretend to be anything else, and that’s fine with me. Definitely check it out.
I agree, but you know what? It wasn’t anymore cheesy than the original Mighty Ducks movie…even the 2nd one was cheesy. The 3rd one was the only one close to not being cheesy. I liked the episode, but damn near all the preview highlights happened in the first episode so I hope it keeps being as “good” as it is.The Rube

Apparently, that was important to Emilio. He wanted to film in MN (as did the rest) but lack of tax breaks prevented that. That’s how the Mighty Ducks originally “started” and they wanted to keep it that way. However, that is why you also have all the MN references. The Current had him on for an interview last week.

I saw the interview. MN references aside the youth format represented has nothing to do with the MN model of youth hockey. I suppose it’s to create drama but I feel they could still do that without going that far. Not a major complaint mind you.

Ok I wasn’t sure what you meant originally but now I do. Yes, outside of the very original one with the “District 5” being somewhat close to association lines, the rest ends up being more of a AAA/private hockey model where regardless of where you live you can play or in the case of the show, start a whole new team to be in a league.JC65

I suspect it was a bit of a perfect storm of the comic author also having created The Walking Dead, a lot of TV and movie production being halted due to the pandemic, and voice acting being something you can do while mostly isolated, but yeah, heavy hitters. However it’s not distracting at all. I was surprised by a couple names I saw when I checked the IMDB page after watching the first episode. I didn’t recognize the voice until I knew who it was.Karlsson

::This Is A Robbery (Netflix streaming): March 18, 1990, 13 works of art were stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. Guards admitted two men posing as police officers responding to a disturbance call, and the thieves tied the guards up and looted the museum.
Interesting crime doc. I can’t say it’s riveting edge-of-your-seat, but it’s worthy of some attention, because how it happened is so bizarre. Elements of hacks/rookies, yet elements of professional crooks. Plus, the insulated nature of Boston neighborhoods (20 people on the scene, none of them saw or heard anything, for example), lots of plausible theories, and zero answers.
4 episodes, each about 45-50 minutes in length, so not a bad time killer at all. I’d say if you’re up in the air about what to watch, give this one a go.

I can’t say the spoiler, so I’ll hide it…..sh*s getting real. This series is definitely getting away from the Sutter influence. Huge change in the last couple of weeks. I say this because it’s not really personal drama anymore. It IS pure chapter/club stuff. The bigger picture. For the SOA fans, it’s not about the same angle as Jax and his demons, or Clay and his past. This is on a larger scale.

IMO, I think the sit-down with Pops will re-focus Galindo. Overall, I think this co-writer/whatever is closing up the storylines that Sutter helped (or maybe solo-created) by doing things like that. The more I think about it, Sutter wanted a cartel/revolutionaries show, with the Mayans simply as a catalyst. The other guy wanted a Mayans show, and wanted to deal with the organization and chapter issues within said organization, with some allowances on what they deal with, what they face. A tighter focus, if you will.
As for Blade’s point, I agree that SOA focused more on the bad-assness, and the individual’s drama. There was a telling quote in this last ep, when EZ was talking to Steve The Prospect: it’s about destroying your ego, so you put your actions for the greater good of the group. Paraphrasing, but along those lines. Also, the “three kings don’t work.” I think that was a subtle shot at Sutter. Sutter was in it for his own vision, not everyone’s vision of what this show should be.

Convince Galindo of that. And if he learns the truth, Papa Reyes is in trouble…As in SOA, no one is a good person in this show (as for main characters). It’s a matter of levels of bad/not-as-bad/etc. That being said, I think Galindo is less bad than quite a few other characters. But now I fear he will become worse.
Related, the fat Mayan trying to get with Nails…he’s one of the better ones. The last couple of episodes have really developed that character.

I will definitely agree that Miguel is going to start walking down a bad path, and I think that Alvarez will gladly walk down that path with him.
The Angel, Nails, and Hank storyline will be interesting to watch. I agree that Hank is one of the more honorable Mayans but I could see his interest in Nails being an issue with Angel.

He forces conversations, no matter how uncomfortable, without really rabble-rousing the masses. It’s an intelligent, well-thought-out presentation each episode. Highly HIGHLY recommend.
Bonus: very interactive convo w/him and the followers on the Tweeter Machine, generally very respectful comments and discussion, not argumentative (there are a couple strays, there are always some of those).
Look, I’m sorry in advance, I love The Rube 99.9 percent of the time. However, if GPL wants to smartly steer clear of politics, remove this. I live in an affected city and I am in no mood to discuss what destroyed my city and why I’m seriously considering leaving MN.

There are a lot of shows out there that have some politics in them (South Park, anyone?
 ). When posters post specific personal views about said politics, that’s when the posts should be deleted. In general, one should be able to post that it’s a biting satire, or an intelligent presentation, or a flaming pile of dogsh*.Of course SPECIFIC political talk shows should be exempt from this. The pure op-ed shows.

Well…Miguel took that call. Turns out though, his Mom was the spazz…stirring the pot from beyond.
Well…..And the one big moment in the ep…..DAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. You saw SOMETHING coming, but I didn’t think that. Wow.

If it needs to be removed, I have no issue with that. I posted my post very carefully, so as not to state any opinion about where I stand. I simply wish to express that it is an intelligent show, that is worth watching.
Rube, I apologize. I read waaay too much into a post and overreacted. Thank you also to the mods and Jup for not following some bad advice.

::I just started watching “Loudermilk” on Amazon Prime. It centers on Ron Livingston as “Sam Loudermilk, a recovering alcoholic and substance abuse counselor with a bad attitude. Although he has his drinking under control, Loudermilk discovers that when your life is a mess, getting clean is the easy part.” I started watching it after realizing Brian Regan, one of my favorite comedians, is in the cast. I have to say I’m really enjoying this show. So funny. Loudermilk’s straight-forward communication style, especially as a substance abuse counselor just works. I’m only 4 episodes into Season 1 (season 3 just premiered not too long ago) but I’d highly recommend. Not as good as Ted Lasso (that has turned into my favorite “current” show right now), but definitely good. MNGophers29

It’s all good, man.And yes, next week’s Mayans…then…we have to wait until next season. The best/worst part of any series.
I have had to stay away while I caught up on Mayans. Finally did yesterday. Holy hell, is the last episode going to be 3 hours? Otherwise I feel like it will be a rush to tie up all the story lines. Also, I think Marcus turns on Miguel. Just my gut. He was one of my favorites in SoA and always seems to be in a more honorable spot than everyone else.

I dunno. Bishop made it pretty clear that Marcus wasn’t a Mayan anymore. I could see Marcus just walk away from it all. He’s savvy enough to avoid Galindo’s hit squad, I think. I don’t think they’ll tie up ALL the storylines…The one flaw in series like this…you know EZ is going to come out of it, somehow, since he’s the main focus of the series. Although, that would be one HELL of a twist, and then make Angel the main focus. HIS storyline is just as complex…
