ADMIN: This is a new thread containing the last year + of the old thread.

Cobra Kai S3, specifically eps 4-5. WHOA.

I will save the rest for later, stopped after Ep5, but holy hannah, things escalated.

It’s getting very little buzz, but Season 5 of the Expanse is the best season of TV I’ve seen in years. I’m very happy they’ve been able to pick it back up after Season 4 (which really is the fault of the source material).

Season 3 had a lot of good moments but also a lot of moments that require too much suspension of disbelief.

Only 2 episodes in, but I’m really enjoying The Queens Gambit on Netflix. I avoided it for a long time because I assumed it was a show about British royalty.

    Your Honor – Showtime

I realize most don’t get Showtime, I signed up for it for Shameless a few years ago and found some other great series (Ray Donovan, Homeland etc).

Anyway, this is a new miniseries with Bryan Cranston who a judge in New Orleans who would do anything to protect his son from a crime. I won’t get into much because it will have some spoilers, but it is really good. Lots of twists and turns and a really good plot. I just finished episode 5 and I thought it was a 5-part miniseries and the way this episode ended, it was the type where you knew what was going to happen, but they didn’t really wrap it up. I was floored and then looked and saw there is a new episode each week and I am only halfway through. :dope:

Well, he continues to kick serious ass. A couple of nice references in there. An Office Space and (IMO) a Taken. I think there is one more ep to go for the season (8 eps, right?). I hope this can tide me over until the new Cobra Kai season kicks in….

I got the Office Space reference (that was hilrarious). Missed the Taken one.

And dang, I thought there were 10 episodes again. That must mean next week’s will be a longer one and have TONS of action.

The Office Space one was great. Not sure I got the taken one

But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.

Also (as mentioned earlier) a nod to Moff’s threat of “you don’t know what the asset means to me” quote.

I guess I will post this here:

The History Of Swear Words (Netflix streaming):

20 minute vignettes, each one based on a single cuss word. The first ep (only one I’ve seen so far) is of course on the F-dash-dash-dash word. Hosted by Nic Cage, who is completely tongue-in-cheek, like a satiric “Inside The Actor’s Studio” emcee. I enjoyed it. They do have a lexicographer, a scientist, and a linguistics expert in the mix, along with your random comedians/etc.

Good light-hearted fun, and one may actually learn a thing or two.

I said the exact same thing after that episode. Back-n-forth between having the upper hand and not, innocents caught in the mix, etc.

I agree with this. I liked that it was only a 5 episode arc so you could binge watch it quickly.

I read a lot about Wandavision on Disney+. Has anyone actually watched it? Personally I’m not a huge fan nor interested in the tv shows featuring the lesser Avengers characters.

I am watching it. So far it has been exceptional. FWIW, Wanda figures to be a very important character in the next wave of Avengers movies. She’s technically one of the most powerful beings in the universe. We got a taste of it in Endgame when she had her battle with Thanos. I believe Feige even mentioned about a year ago that she’s the most powerful character they’ve introduced in the MCU. Wandavision is also going to tie directly into Dr. Strange 2: The Multiverse of Madness. I expect that we’ll find out the main villain for Dr. Strange 2 introduces himself in some way, shape, or form in Wandavision.

The most important thing about Wandavision is how they are using it to expand on just how powerful she can be, as well as (IMO) being used as a way to introduce mutants into the MCU (because in the comics she and her brother were actually mutants)-though this is part is just my opinion and has not been confirmed by any showrunners. As of right now in MCU canon she and her brother got their powers as the product of experimentation. But they could pretty easily retcon that the experiments just pushed their mutations to the forefront (a la Deadpool).

They are also using this as a way to expand into the next generation of heros. Without spoiling anything, if you saw the end of Spiderman Far From Home and saw the post credit scene, where Nick Fury was in the post-credit scene is going to play a major part in the MCU going forward. That aspect is also being expanded in Wandavision.

Through 4 episodes of the show so far I have been extremely happy with the show and look forward to watching every Friday.

From all that I read afterwards, and from all the books and movies I have about that lifestyle…that was probably the most accurate portrayal of the life, as far as the “normal”/”family” life of your organized crime member.

I think the Hawkeye series is the one I’m least excited about, but given what I have heard about it, it will be an interesting introduction to the Young Avengers team, as Kate Bishop figures to be involved in that team.

The Lady And The Dale (HBO MAX)

Elizabeth Carmichael, a larger-than-life entrepreneur rose to prominence with her promotion of a fuel-efficient, three-wheeled car known as The Dale.

What a bizarre story. I think there are 4 parts to this mini-series, the finale is released in a week or so. I had never heard of this controversy, and it just became more and more WTF as the story unfolded. I’m not going to look up spoilers, as I want to be surprised/whatever as to how it turned out. Definitely would recommend.

I don’t know any of the story either, and you’re right…it’s like “wow”, with everything that gets told.

2 new shows I’ve started watching at really enjoy:

“Mr. Mayor” on NBC starring Ted Danson and Holly Hunter. At first, I wasn’t sure I’d like the almost dry sense of humor with seemingly every other line. But it really is making me laugh. It’s a fun show. The 3rd episode “Brentwood Trash” featured Andie MacDowell, David Spade, and Chrissy Teigen as themselves, and that one just cracked me up even more so. Ted Danson and Holly Hunter, and all of their “staff” sidekicks and their quirks tie together so well.

“Resident Alien” on SyFy starring Alan Tudyk as an alien who crash-lands on earth and takes on the identity of a remote doctor. Learning how to act and talk like a human by only watching Law & Order is just the beginning of the hilarity. Only 2 episodes have aired but it’s been such a funny show so far. Alan Tudyk is great in pretty much anything he does, so it doesn’t surprise me he’s great in this.

Marathoned “Night Stalker” (Netflix streaming) today.

I knew the basics of the case, but obviously this went into great detail. Well done, although it does play out as a History/AMC/etc cop drama doc. 4 eps, about an hour long each. Worth seeing.

The last episode was a cleanup/summary. Rather disappointing. IMO, Ep 3 was probably the best.

Started up 30 Coins on HBO Max. An exiled priest tries to escape his demons while living in a remote village in Spain.

It’s :censored: up. I’m interested so far, just have seen the first episode, and it’s intense….but we’ll see how it goes.

    30 Coins. I’m through episode 4 (of 7).

I really like it, however, these are similar thoughts that are going through my head (hidden, because NSFW, language):

The Fall. A series from about 5-7 years ago from BBC starring Gillian Anderson as a London top cop asked to aid an investigation in Belfast. As is often with BBC series its a far superior show on several aspects than 99% of network shows in the US and would fit right in next to The Night Of from HBO, etc. One concern is that it was a 3-season series (5 or 6 episodes each) and Netflix currently only shows 2. If the current story arc takes place over all 3 I really hope Netflix adds the 3rd season. Regardless it’s very well done and highly recommended.

That was a pretty good one. I’m almost positive that when I saw it, everything got wrapped up.

It’s currently on BritBox in the USA. They have a 7 day free trial and then $6.99/month

Finished 30 coins (S1). Dunno if there will be a 2nd season, it sure is open season for it.

Beyond WTF, but I ended up really liking it. It has elements from a LOT of previous stuff (IT, Exorcist, From Dusk Till Dawn, The Mist, even Machete). They make it work, though. It’s definitely out there, so I can see why some might not like it.

The way the season ended, it sure looks like they are planning on a 2nd season.

It is way out there though.

I’ve watched the first 2 episodes of Clarice and I’m not sure I will stick through it unless it gets better. It has promise and I truly like the lead they cast to play the main role. But come on this is Silence of the Lambs territory not paint by numbers murder mystery of the week. Hannibal did this world far better and I hope the creators of this show add some grit soon.

I watched the first episode and have the second recorded. It’s network TV. They have a murder of the week and just put Clarice’s name on it. There was almost no connection to Silence of the Lambs. You are correct, Hannibal did a great job with this. It was weird and different.

Sad thing is Hannibal was a network show and they still nailed it. Had it been HBO it might lasted longer though. Always rumors of a 4th season but I’m not holding my breath.

My daughter just told me this is the most expensive TV show ever made? Averages 20million per episode?

The next MCU series starts in a couple weeks and I don’t think there’s gonna be another season of Wandavision. They were mostly setting up Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange and since the last episode was called “The Series Finale” that’s prolly it for any time soon. It’s too bad cause I thought it was a very unique experience and really well written. From the trailer for the Winter Soldier series it looks like a more traditional Marvel deal with a buddy cop kinda feel.

Agreed. Wandavision definitely opened the MCU to more of the darker and mystical world that Dr. Strange is going to be dealing with in Dr. Strange 2. My guess is we won’t see a S2 of Wandavision but they needed to have this series in order to develop her powers. She’s likely going to be among the most powerful characters, if not THE most powerful character in the MCU for a couple years and she couldn’t really go from where we last saw her in Endgame (obviously very powerful but not nearly as powerful as she’s capable of) to God-tier powers and just ignore how she got the extra juice.

My guess is that Falcon and Winter Soldier will most likely introduce the creation of the Thunderbolts and I’m pretty sure the trailers for Falcon and Winter Soldier include some sights of Madripoor which is a big location for X-Men and could feasibly be used for X-Men teasers. I’m really interested to see how that show turns out.

I’m about halfway thru season 2 of the Crown and I feel like I’m taking this in a different way than others. I’m mostly seeing how ridiculous a monarchy and especially the English monarchy is. The royal family is granted over $100 million a year (American) by English tax players…for what? Plus the way they cling to outdated traditions to preserve the church is crazy. Then their staid staff give the royal family awful and/or lazy advice that blows up in their faces and then criticizes them for it. Yesterday’s Oprah interview did nothing to change that opinion.

If you haven’t watched the Oprah interview with Harry and Meghan, it’s eye-opening about “the institution” as they call it. I got a mob feeling about it although it didn’t sound like it was the actual family members, more their staff. I dunno, it’s one side.

Without citing any recent examples that spring to mind, I can see some advantages to separating the roles of a nation’s top political celebrity from their functioning head of government.
