I think the colder than usual weather really bothered him. You could tell yesterday in particular he was limping considerably more than Thursday or Friday. I wonder if his performance yesterday would have been a bit better if the temps were higher to help his body stay loose. His swing looked pretty good, despite all that. His putter was absolutely atrocious yesterday. I think he had three 3-putts and a 4-putt. That’s really bad.
It’s 70 degrees there today, he’s still limping and is four over through 15 today so I don’t think it’s the weather.
How’s he putting? I didn’t see any of his round, just the scorecard (ugly). His swing actually looked pretty good yesterday all things considered but his putter was a disaster.

Fantastic performance by Scheffler this weekend.
He got a bit shaky for a few shots today, but never allowed it to progress to something serious. Four sub-par rounds. McIlroy and Morikawa, playing together today, were a combined -13 for the round. They both holed out from the bunker for birdies on 18.Beauner

The bogey save he had yesterday, being able to hit it right at the flag from 230 out or whatever he was, off the pine straw after taking the unplayable was insane.

::Should be a FUN weekend in Tulsa, probably even hot enough for Tigers back to loosen up. 😉 The fact he’s even competing this weekend after that car wreck is amazing, just happy he’s in the field, wish Phil was too, despite his (earlier this year)🔥comments, I don’t understand why he’s not defending his title.

From what I’m seeing, it looks like a large part of why he isn’t participating is the comments from earlier in the year, waiting for the fallout from that to calm down.

Overcoming his injuries to see if he still can compete. I’d say he’s doing okay so far, considering his age and injuries, even with today’s withdrawal.

Nicklaus has 18 majors.
At this stage, Tiger is largely a ceremonial presence for golf versus a true threat at the majors. There are much better and younger players even if he was 100% (let alone with all of his injuries over time). It’s the same kind of thing that Nicklaus, Palmer, and others went through in their late 40s and 50s. You enjoy watching the legend but you know it’s largely about what once was.

If you play the weekend in a major, the minimum you take home is going to be $23,000-$25,000

Someone must have gotten him to face reality. There’s no chance he was gonna win if he can’t put weight on one leg. It’s not like he needs the money.

The circumstances around his recovery are amazing. I certainly didn’t expect to see him until 2023, if at all. That said, I would think that struggling the final two rounds at Augusta, going the next five weeks without any competitive golf and then hoping to be competitive at the PGA Championship is unrealistic.

Because even at less than 100%, he’s still good enough to make the cut at Majors?
So that’s his goal now…?…limp around and make the cut? It’s not, that’s why he pulled out. He needs to get healthy
Yes, it won’t be easy for him in his current state. He needs to improve his health.

We’ll see what he does. The US Open is about 3 1/2 weeks away, maybe too soon. The British Open is in mid-July and at St.Andrew’s, which is pretty flat. Maybe a better opportunity and he’s won The Open there twice.

That is what he is testing out, IMO. Don’t know until you get out there. He is improving as far as stamina. Made it through the third day, and wasn’t bad through the second day…

He was limping badly after the second day. Like really bad. Recovered decently for Sat but what was the point. That said, I’m sure he’s playing when he’s not playing tournaments, he should be able to gauge how he feels if he plays multiple days in row. Standing on the range and swinging isn’t gonna replicate walking a course. I’m guessing he may not be playing 18 holes every day either to test it out. Those last 5-6 holes is where fatigue sets in if you’re not conditioned.

You know this of course, but athletes like Tiger are just wired differently. It’s next to impossible to get someone like that to sit one out unless they really thought going in they couldn’t compete and/or risk serious re-injury. I get your point but he doesn’t want to be idle. I do agree though that sitting out the U.S. is probably a good idea – we’ll see if he can make the same decision.

::If Tiger honestly believes he’s going to compete with healthy, top young golfers in his current state, then his ego is getting in the way and he’s getting a major reality check. He wasn’t consistently in the hunt a lot of the time even before that accident. I understand being competitive but there are times in life where you have to look in the mirror and be honest with yourself too.

Ever since he became comfortable being Mr Lippy in front of the camera he became mr irrelevant in the course.
He’s joined a long, Long, LONG list. Rory (who I love) hasn’t won a major since 2014. Spieth with dry spell too. How about Jason Day. Or Rickie to name just a few who fall into the category of huge stars who haven’t got it done, especially recently (or ever).
