I almost posted that exact same thing but couldn’t decide which was the most appropriate of the shitty beers to use. 😆

In WI, it’s always Miller products. Always. Back before the craft beer revolution, if I was in WI, I’d order a Budweiser just to piss ’em off.

Since it’ll be a Wisconsin wedding only the very finest champagne will do.

A mix of fact and fiction here:

Anheuser Busch tested Michelob Golden Draft in the Upper Midwest, a region that contains Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, South Dakota, and North Dakota. Currently, it is sold in seven states other than Minnesota, and Potter says that Michelob is always exploring opportunities for expansion. The brand tested limited SKUs in Montana as recently as last year.

    https://oct.co/essays/unraveling-minnesota-love-affair-michelob-golden-light

The reason they test-marketed it in those specific states, was because those were the states where Miller Light was dominant, outselling Bud Light.

If I am remembering correctly, Mankato was one of the test markets for cases of the stuff. Most places only had 6-packs and 12-packs They wanted to know how it would do in a college town.

I remember the novelty of coming up from Iowa to get Mich Golden. The novelty wore off just before I moved up here because they started selling it in Iowa. Alas, I am a typical Iowan in that I usually drink Busch Light at home but I do prefer the many offerings from Schells when I’m in the mood to enjoy a beer instead of guzzling a beer.

It’s much easier to get the side of the car close to the snow drift than the rear (with the trunk and all)

The problem of this joke is if you looked at the zoomed out photo the car with the snowmobile has MN plates….

Though at least it’s a WI resident who still has MN plates

“As for the Minnesota plates on his car, Schmit explained that he bought the vehicle as “my beater car” last spring in the Twin Cities and hadn’t gotten around to transferring the title.”

Boy, I don’t find this that odd. When I lived in Madison in college I saw a lot of weird stuff being transferred on cars, especially during move in/move out day. I remember the first time seeing 2 deer strapped to the top of a Geo Metro with each hoof tied to each of the 4 corners of the vehicle…if only phones had camera back then!

I was once in Seiffen Germany over the holidays, staying at a very small local inn. European hotels often have large breakfast buffets but this place really laid out the spread. I was thrilled the first morning to see steak tartar, nicely mounded up with all the trimmings. I quickly put a big scoop on my plate and went to sit at a table. A nearby family commented on the fact they were surprised I was eating and obviously enjoying such a local food. I was confused and said I didn’t think steak tartar was a local specialty. They laughed out loud and said, that’s pork. Yup, raw pork! Bright red like beef, as REAL heritage pork truly looks like, is what lead to my confusion. Apparently raw pork tartar WAS a very local regional specialty. I laughed right back, explained I’m from Iowa and that it was delicious and finished it off. I had it the second morning too!

The stuff that’s going to kill you in beef is, for the most part, E. coli, and it’s in the cows intestinal tract until the cow gets butchered. In industrial settings ground beef gets riddled with E. coli because the contents of the cow’s intestinal tract get spread over everything.

However in large cuts of meat, the E. coli is on the surface. So “blanch” your steak in boiling water, then chop on a sanitized cutting board with a sanitized knife or grind with a sanitized grinder and you’ll be fine.

I’m not going down to target and buying a pound of 80/20 ground beef and eating it raw, but I’ll eat tartare or carpaccio at a place with a good reputation.

The fact that they call it a cannibal sandwich is all I needed to know it’s from Wisconsin. Seriously, what is with that state and their cannibals?

Holy schnikies. It doesn’t look like the barrier broke at all so the confluence of events needed to send the vehicle over it?

I’m not an engineer but I’ve always feared this happening on the new 35W bridge in Mpls. The concrete walls are really low and it seems like it would be really easy for a car to go over them.

I’ve always feared this happening on those huge overpasses you see down in Texas. I was driving back to DFW from east Texas once on a rainy day where the temp was real close to freezing and I was a bit nervous about it.

It looks like snow was plowed up against the concrete wall creating a ramp.

    I sense a lawsuit coming.

Northwest Blvd in Plymouth, between Bass Lake and 42nd, IIRC, there’s that bridge…. Always icy in winter. Poorly designed IMO. Just a slight enough angle on the road where spinouts are prime. Couldn’t stand that road when taking that route back in the day.

When I was still up in Crapids i remember a US10 bridge over railroad tracks that was between the Foley and Hanson exits being a gauntlet of black ice. Always saw people spinning out and hitting the walls or going into the ditch there. Especially westbound.

I think I know that road….and yeah. Frankly, all those bridges up there are *ed. Maybe it’s lack of familiarity, I dunno, but man, what a cluster.

I think part of it was that it was where cars would stack up bumper-to-bumper during the afternoon rush hour. The exhaust probably settled and froze to the pavement there.

Maybe you saw me. I live off of Foley and 10. I used to travel West on 10 five mornings a week. I hit the top of that bridge once, did a complete 360 and continued on my butt puckered way.

Yeah – it’s about 3 minutes from my house. I don’t drive that stretch too often since I live off Zachary but I’d also worry about not being able to turn and slide across the median

I know what you mean. When I was living in DFW, I used to use the High Five Interchange between I-635 and 75. Usually it was in dry conditions and I’m sure it was fine, but no matter how many times I took it, I always got vertigo just by looking forward as the flyover interchange descended let alone looking left or right and seeing nothing but a single thin concrete barrier separating me from a serious fall, more than that West Allis truck driver.

Unless we start building roads hundreds of feet in the air like in some of those futuristic sci-fi movies, we’re probably not going to get anything that high around here anytime soon since engineers have figured out how to condense these things in fewer layers. Not to mention that Upper Midwesterners would consider the High Five an eyesore.

Off the top of my head the highest bridges in Minnesota that I can think of are:

    1. Virginia High Bridge

    2. High Bridge (St. Paul)

US 53 bridge in Duluth / Superior is named the Blatnik Bridge. Locally it is The High Bridge.

Mackinaw Straits Big Mac is as high of a bridge I’ve ever ridden across on a motorcycle. Combined with the fact that there is pavement on the inside lanes but grating on the outside lane. The bike tends to want to wander or drift on grating it can be unnerving.

The Mackinaw Bridge is whoa. Only drove across it in summer, and I dislike heights, so the fact that you can see through the bridge….

How is it that the DOT hasn’t come by with plows to clear those ramps fully?
