It makes me laugh. But you might be surprised the number of people it bothers… “He is making it all about him.” “Nobody wants to know who the stripes are, just do your job” etc. I think he is just trying to make people laugh, and have a little fun. You have to “read the room” and know you can’t do that with certain teams/games/situations. I think he knows that and picks his spots well. It still bugs a lot of people. I mean, someone in the NHL, let alone a referee has a personality? Or has fun working? There are plenty of people who do like it though, so that’s good.

The NHL is ultimately an entertainment product and that probably has something to do with why they hire more colorful refs like him. Personally, Wes telling guys to fuck off once in a while or doing stuff like that is the least of the NHL’s reffing problem.

I was listening to a podcast and Elliott Friedman said it’s a possibility the NHL buys back the Yotes and sells them to a different owner but auctions them in a way in which the league would also get an ‘expansion fee’ which is an interesting thought. Videotron Centre in Quebec is just waiting for an NHL tenant. Have to think Houston excites the league more from a TV revenue perspective. Building is ready there too.

Not sure the exact timing, looks like the end of the period. Pittsburgh goalie scooped up the puck to toss it into the stands… Marchand comes over and knocks the puck off the stick, grabs it and apparently tossed it across the ice (hitting a Bruins staff member, from one comment I saw)

I’m guessing that was end of the 2nd period, given the scrum that happened at the end of the game at the opposite end of the rink that was the main post above.

It was during one of the commercial breaks in the period. That’s why the Bruins staff member is on the ice with the trash can full of snow.

That makes sense. Just saw the short clip and wasn’t sure when it happened.

This resonates so strongly with the BoG because the key players, and to a lesser extent the key teams, are considered the league’s financial lifeblood. The risk that those players could be put out of action for a while scares them enough that the rules are different when it comes to them
