::Guest’s mockumentaries have slid downhill (overall) over the years. Mighty Wind was ok at best, and For Your Consideration was not good at all. Just noticed there is something called Mascots released after that…I’m not even interested.
You’re not interested in Spinal Tap 2 cause Guest made crappy movies on his own? I have faith in Reiner making a worthy sequel although the bar is set very high.

It’s been diminishing returns from the start. Thankfully, some were still great, but IIRC “Best In Show” was the last great one. And to be honest, “Waiting For Guffman” isn’t as good as advertised.

I’m not sure any of those were really that great, I mean Best In Show was fine but Spinal Tap is such a great movie. When deadpan humor makes you laugh out loud that’s rare.

::Might have to watch The Right Stuff and Tremors this weekend. Maybe throw in Miami Blues as well. RIP Fred Ward.
The Right Stuff is one of my all-time favorite movies…

When I think of Fred Ward movies The Right Stuff is the first one that comes to mind…like Jup it’s one of my all time favorites both because of the content but also just the feel of the movie…just love it! The other two movies that come to mind immediately is Uncommon Valor, one of my dad’s all time favs, and also Tremors.

::Crazy Heart (Netflix disc):
A faded country music musician is forced to reassess his dysfunctional life during a doomed romance that also inspires him.Finally got around to seeing this. When it first came out, and this is in hindsight, I don’t think I’d have appreciated it as much. However, a couple friends have brought this one up over the years, and it came up on my queue, so I dove in. It IS formulaic at times, but enough slight twists in there to keep it from being cheese. I really liked it, very much worth a watch. And who’d figure that Colin Farrell could pull off a country (well, “new” country) singer? That sure was a diamond in the rough.

“Crazy Heart” is a totally different type of movie compared to “Hell or High Water”but Jeff Bridges absolutely CRUSHES IT (in both) 👍

::We watched Senior Year and it was funnier and less “stupid in a bad way” than I would have imagined based upon the trailer. Rotten Tomatoes has savaged it apparently but all 3 of us laughed regularly.
This is pretty much spot on. It was silly-stupid, not stupid-stupid. There were some dashes of “Not Another Teen Movie,” obviously some “Bring It On,” and a bit of “Never Been Kissed,” although I have not seen that last one, I just know of the plot.
It’s a decent afternoon-killer. Short and sweet, it’ll give ya some chuckles.

::Collin Ferrell single-handedly ruined En Bruges.
Agreed on that one.
I loved En Bruges, went there a few years after and loved the city too

::Hyena Road (Netflix streaming):
Three different men, three different worlds, three different wars – all stand at the intersection of modern warfare – a murky world of fluid morality where all is not as it seems.This is a cold movie. There is little drama, little action (until the end scenes), and little room for the feelings. This is point blank, a war movie. The stuff you DON’T see in a war. This is also why I liked it. Here is what it is, deal with it. Lots of acronyms, shorthand, etc, not a ton of shooting and the like. I do recommend this one.

::Red Sea Diving Resort (Netflix streaming):
Israel’s Mossad agents attempt to rescue Ethiopian Jewish refugees in Sudan in 1979.Didn’t seem to take a LOT of liberties, reading up on it, quite a good movie, although the ending was very predictable. It was a story I did not know about, so that was a plus. I will say, that is one crazy idea to do what they did, HOW they did it. And it has Ben Kingsley, so that was a factor.

::Kidnapping Stella (Netflix streaming):
Snatched off the street and held for ransom, a bound and gagged woman uses her limited powers to derail her two masked abductors’ carefully-laid plans.Beyond cookie-cutter. Heck, in the first 15 minutes of the movie or so, the foreshadowing is so obvious that even Anne Frank would’ve seen it. Add to that simple rookie criminal mistakes and general idiocy, I wouldn’t bother with this one.

::The Takedown (Netflix streaming, French movie):
Diakité and Monge as police officers who are the complete opposite, and get paired together to uncover an unexpectedly big criminal case.A combo of Lethal Weapon and Rush Hour, IMO. It was…entertaining enough. LOTS of racial dialogue/populist dialogue. This movie was not shy about it. It kind of took away from the main plot, IMO. Overall, I think they could’ve dialed it back a little on everything, it is rather in your face at times, but that could also be a cultural difference. Good action sequences with fights and a couple decent car chases. Worth a go, if only to satisfy curiosity.
