ADMIN: This is a new thread containing the last year + of the old thread.

Mark Parrish joins Wild broadcast team. Not sure if he will be in the booth, pregame or both. Also, no word if he is replacing anyone from last year.

Maybe replacing Chorske? Didn’t he take a hockey job for that St. Cloud Jr team or something?

Chorske confirmed he was out but it was FSN who didnt renew his contract, not that he quit.

And at & around the rinks…one of the most humble & personable guys you’ll ever meet. He’s got new responsibilities with the St Cloud NAHL team in addition to his day job to keep him busy. But I’ll miss him on FSN.

Yeah this is a bummer. While I applaud Parrish for getting help and straightening himself out, I like Chorske better.

You’re starting to see the wrestling and volleyball schedules come out. You might be surprised, but they draw more viewers than most B10 hockey games. I think Gophers are the exception to that guideline though.

Since we’ve never seen a delay quite like it I’m guessing it might have something to do with that nasty virus that’s been going around.

Well crap I can’t get this to display correctly but here’s the story! The video of the show is hilarious! You’d think this was an Onion type story but apparently not. I have to say if I saw a giant penis that cracked like a whip I’d be scarred for life.

Children’s TV show about man with giant penis airs in Denmark

Backlash against animated series about man who cannot control his penis but others have defended it

John Dillermand has an extraordinary penis. So extraordinary, in fact, that it can perform rescue operations, etch murals, hoist a flag and even steal ice-cream from children.

The Danish equivalent of the RTÉ, DR, has a new animated series aimed at four- to eight-year-olds about John Dillermand, the man with the world’s longest penis who overcomes hardships and challenges with his record-breaking genitals.

Unsurprisingly, the series has provoked debate about what good children’s television should – and should not – contain.

Since premiering on Saturday, opponents have condemned the idea of a man who cannot control his penis. “Is this really the message we want to send to children while we are in the middle of a huge #MeToo wave?” wrote the Danish author Anne Lise Marstrand-Jørgensen.

The show comes just months after the TV presenter Sofie Linde kickstarted Denmark’s #MeToo movement.

Christian Groes, an associate professor and gender researcher at Roskilde University, said he believed the programme’s celebration of the power of male genitalia could only set equality back. “It’s perpetuating the standard idea of a patriarchal society and normalising ‘locker room culture’ – that’s been used to excuse a lot of bad behaviour from men. It’s meant to be funny – so it’s seen as harmless. But it’s not. And we’re teaching this to our kids.”

Erla Heinesen Højsted, a clinical psychologist who works with families and children, said she believed the show’s opponents may be over-thinking things. “John Dillermand talks to children and shares their way of thinking – and kids do find genitals funny,” she said.

“The show depicts a man who is impulsive and not always in control, who makes mistakes – like kids do, but crucially, Dillermand always makes it right. He takes responsibility for his actions. When a woman in the show tells him that he should keep his penis in his pants, for instance, he listens. Which is nice. He is accountable.”

    Not about sex

Højsted conceded the timing was poor and that a show about bodies might have considered depicting “difference and diversity” beyond an oversized diller (Danish slang for penis; dillermand literally means “penis-man”).

“But this is categorically not a show about sex,” she said. “To pretend it is projects adult ideas on it.”

DR, the Danish public service broadcaster, has a reputation for pushing boundaries – especially for children. Another stalwart of children’s scheduling is Onkel Reje, a popular figure who curses, smokes a pipe and eschews baths – think Mr Tumble meets Father Jack.

A character in Gepetto News made conservatives bristle in 2012 when he revealed a love of cross-dressing. And Ultra Smider Tøjet (Ultra Strips Down) caused outrage in 2020 for presenting children aged 11-13 with a panel of nude adults, but, argues Højsted, such criticism was unjustified.

“What kind of culture are we creating for our children if it’s OK for them to see ‘perfect’ bodies on Instagram – enhanced, digitally or cosmetically – but not ‘real bodies’?” she said.

DR responded to the latest criticism by saying it could just as easily have made a programme “about a woman with no control over her vagina” and that the most important thing was that children enjoyed John Dillermand. – Guardian

My Lord, the hours I spent in the car as a kid with my Dad, and the radio tuned to Boone & Erickson. And “Sports Hero” and “Point of Law” in the late afternoons.

BTW, Dave Lee’s retirement is being brought to you by the good folks at Country Hearth Bread & Bakery :)

Whenever I think of Boone & Erickson I think of the words, ‘public and parochial’. :D

Nothing against you gopher6 but we need to stop bitching about the TV not being set until a couple days before gameday. BTN and FSN have much larger audiences for just about every sport they broadcast when compared to hockey. If a wolves game gets rescheduled or a big ten basketball game gets moved that is what is gonna be broadcast. That’s just the way it’s gonna be during a pandemic.

The NHL’s TV deal with NBC is done after this year, so no real effect there other than weakening their bargaining position with ESPN or Fox. Once NBC shuts down NBCSN this year, their remaining NHL broadcasts will be on USA Network.

All the Notre Dame stuff is probably going behind the Peacock paywall.

My uncle and cousin are avid Twins fans, watching every game, and agree Smalley is the best by a long shot.

It might make for an interesting poll. Bert is a bit of a clown, likes to talk about himself too much, and didn’t offer enough insight to the game. I like Morneau, but he’s pretty boring. Smalley has some personality, some decent stories and gives some managerial-level insight.

Smalley and Blylevyn are by far my two least favorite.

I thought Morneau showed a ton of improvement last season. He was definitely pretty boring when he first started but he seemed much more comfortable last year. I thought he was really good last year.

I really liked Torii and Latroy Hawkins in the booth in their limited times. Cuddyer was great too.

Except Woog was hilarious, self deprecating, and appreciated the way the game had evolved. Blylevyn was full of himself and refused to say anything positive about the way the game is played and was all “back in my day” about it.

Oh but he just loves the sound of a bat when it snaps!

(And reminding Bremer of that. Every time.)

I know this doesn’t count as “local” media but I think the all time worst for “back in my day” was Billy Packer on CBS college basketball. . He would constantly compare current players to players from the 60’s and 70’s. Drove me nuts.

I don’t mind any of the Twins color commentators. I just don’t like Dick Bremer.

Sad news in local media from over the weekend.

    1. Irv Cross passed away. Irv used to host the NFL Today with Brent Musburger, Phyllis George and Jimmy the Greek back when I was a kid. More recently he was the AD at Macalester and did some TV work with Channel 9.

    2. I’m seeing on Twitter this morning that Dan Culhane passed away. Back in the day (mid to late 80’s?) Dan was co-host with Tom Barnard on the Tom & Dan Show on KQRS. Back then the show was must listen radio.

I guarantee you if you have not heard of Dan Culhane you have heard his voice. Very common in local voiceovers.

    RIP to them both.

I’m really enjoying the Daily Delivery Podcast that Michael Rand from StarTribune does every weekday. It’s a 1/2 hour, informative, and Rand is a fun guy that that doesn’t take himself too seriously.

Sat across the aisle from Irv on an airplane ride once upon a time. Really good, down to earth guy. Smart, humble, honest, and cordial. It was a nice conversation.

Funny – I wonder why people who are basically stuck at home during a pandemic aren’t watching more of your TV channels? Do you think it has something to do with the fact you’ve limited the number of eyeballs who can see your programming?

There are a lot of people running that place with a combined IQ less than my 10 year old

Does this mean Gigi Marvin is out ?

I have to say a business plan that only allows wired home cable users to see your programming is a very limited business plan. I’m no MBA, but it just doesn’t seem like the subscriptions will cover the cost of programming. And to expect people to all pay for the service, I think your expectations are off. Especially in an economic downturn.

I hope the wild figure out a way to have fans see their product, it’s got to be at an all time low.

Oh well, only one gopher hockey series left on FSN until big ten takes over for the playoffs.

While I may personally agree with you in regards to that specific company, it’s only fair to point out that nobody has done well in broadcast TV over the course of the pandemic.

While many broadcast entities are having a problem, Sinclair seems to be going out of their way to make it more painful for their desired customer base to actually get their product.

I’m guessing a large portion of Sinclair’s issue is that they just paid a ton of money for the RSNs which then basically spent the first year of their contract under Sinclair with no live sports to broadcast and therefore created no revenue (there are only so many times you can watch reruns of WPT and random old sports games).

Interesting take by Jess Myers on the FSN availability issue.

    https://www.therinklive.com/big-10/um-gophers/6923668-Commentary-If-you-can%E2%80%99t-get-Gopher-hockey-on-your-TV-you%E2%80%99ve-made-a-choice#.YEajBPepwt0.twitter

Yes, it is a choice but the unfortunate reality is there not a lot of options to choose from. And if you choose one particular option there’s no guarantee that option will continue to carry them.

This article is a load of shit and sides with corporate entities who care about no one but their stockholders. The restaurant analogy is totally ridiculous and that reporter sucks for taking that angle. If I want a burrito I go to a burrito place and if I want a burger I got to a burger place. I don’t have to do research, pay fees, order equipment, set up auto payment, etc each time I want to have a different food choice. It would only be “my choice” which provider I use if they all carried the same or mostly the same channels and besides that, most of these providers did have FSN when we switched to them. This is all on Sinclair who only care about their bottom line and won’t own up to their poor business decisions. The teams need to start putting pressure on Sinclair so that they are getting the eyeballs on their product that they deserve. Sinclair deserves all the criticism they are getting and more.

Going to have to disagree. There are several options that carry FSN. If you really want FSN, change to one of those.

You do not need any equipment for Comcast TV anymore. I do it exclusively though the Roku App. And I went back to Comcast from YTTV for Gopher hockey but ended up saving money doing so.

The Xfinity Roku app has an annoying degree of delay, but it works great otherwise.

The app is a mess, but an app with no rental equipment nonetheless
