I almost always attend the games with either my daughter or my sister. So I don’t think I’ll be copying your tradition any time soon.

I had Schells and Castle Danger during the games. Good thing I left the Beaver Island in the fridge.

Apparently I’m one of the movie geek posters here…this came up in my FB memories…still rings true overall, I suppose…but here goes. I obviously highly recommend all these movies.

Gonna take a cue from (name redacted), but condense it. 10 movies that affected me overall. No order in this, not commenting on why, just the list.

      1. Red Cliff (INTERNATIONAL VERSION)

      2. Amadeus (director’s cut, although it’s only minor differences)

      3. Goodfellas

      4. Freaks

      5. Superman II (Donner cut)

      6. Airplane

      7. Tombstone

      8. The Way

      9. Pump Up The Volume

      10. The Wall

Excellent movie, although there is one scene I cannot watch ever again (pretty sure you can guess which one).

Along those lines, there are some GREAT movies out there that I will never watch again. Ever. “Requiem For A Dream (Director’s cut)” and “Kids” are two of ’em.

Ditto on the re-watching. Powerful movie.

        On to random things:

I haven’t owned a FWD vehicle since 2001. And the times I’ve driven a FWD vehicle in that time period (road trips and such; shared driving) I could probably count on one hand.

I think I did when I first bought the DVD, but obv that was years ago…may have to revisit that at some point.

So, movies are definitely a hobby of mine, I just get lost in them, detached from the world (in a good way). Very much like I’m the only spectator IN that world, a fly on the wall. That feeling is why I got into movies.

What are others’ hobbies, and why did you get into them? What hooked you?

Like Rube I adore movies. His comment about getting lost is true for me too. I vastly prefer watching in a theater over home, something about a community experience. Most years I’d see 50-75 films in a theater, too many to count on TV. I’ve kept a small book for almost 30 years where I’ve listed every film @ year.

I have a double MA in Public History and Film History, and worked in the industry for many years.

Hobbies? I collect antique/vintage Christmas and belong to an international collectors group. I focus on Dresden ornaments and KRAMPUS! I love to bake. I keep my neighbors supplied with a steady stream of treats ( keeps me from eating waaaaay to many). My husband and I love to travel. We’ve visited over 85 countries, our latest excursion to SE Africa ticked off another 5. 6 out of the 7 continents, Australia being our missing spot. My stepbrother lives in NZ and visiting him and his wife are now a top priority. Yes we’ve been to Antarctica! Along with South Georgia and the Falkland Islands.

As for hobbies and collecting. I have 175 unique Minnesota Gophers Hockey pucks. Several OGPs, some one of a kind, but mostly souv. pucks. Though I still have around 5 pucks I know of that I don’t have.

The movie ‘Hoosiers’ is one of my top five movies of all time. The movie is extra special for me especially after 1993, my Jr. year in high school when we won the Montana Boys Basketball Tourney. The storyline in ‘Hoosiers’ has some similarities as our march to the state title. We were a very good team, our starting 5 we’re as solid as a team gets. Just under achieved during the regular season. We were the two seed at Districts and ended up advancing to Divisional’s where we were unseeded. We pulled off a couple of upsets and advance to State. At State we thumped a Top 10 team in the quarterfinals, knocked off the #3 team in the state in the final second in the semi finals and thumped #1 team in the State for the State Championship.

The CLK 350 and my old ’65 Goat both got me north of 110. The Goat is gone & the MB gets pampered.

Do 110 on a bike for a real sensation of speed. On my bagger with a frame mounted fairing you can feel quasi-relaxed. On the hot rod Dyna one needs to be very aware and it is LOUD.

I was on the back of a sport bike around 110mph. It gets pretty hard to hang on to the person in front of you when accelerating to that speed and there’s no seat back behind you.

I think I made to 100 once or twice in the Trans Am.

I did 120 in a Plymouth Neon once. It was a 5 or so mile stretch of straight flat road with 25 mph corners at each end. Slowing down from the 120 was a lot more harrowing, even knowing where the curve was, that the speed itself

I lived in Germany for 6 years as a kid so the autobahn is no stranger. I remember my dad doing about 210km/ hour (about 130mph) and a Porsche going by that came by and was out of sight in seconds. I only knew it was a Porsche from the body shape because I never even had a chance to see the license plate with how fast it went by.

I drove 110 mph in my friends’ ’92 Camaro SS convertible on Hwy 20 south of my hometown. As soon as I exited the highway we saw a county sheriff on the road we turned onto…I didn’t press my luck the rest of that day. I will say that car got up to speed very quickly and handled the speed perfectly. Even with the top down it wasn’t terribly windy. That is the only time I’ve ever been over a hundred.

I was a passenger in a Chevy S-10 doing 110 mph. We were on our way to barn fire at my buddy’s farm at about 2:00 AM. The road was so flat we could see the orange glow of the fire from about 20 miles away.

As a driver, I don’t think I’ve ever been north of 90 mph.

When I was on the Autobahn it was just me and my grandpa. We has a spunky little Opel (late 80s) and he dozed off as we hit a a long gradual hill dropping into a valley. I think I backed off just north of 190 KM so it was closer to 120MPH. Gramps woke up as I settled back into the 90-100 range and gave me a wry smile. As we crossed the flat part of the valley in noticed a blur near the top of the hill behind us. Couple seconds later it was more noticeable and was gaining fast. Within a few seconds I would tell it was a white Benz and as I started to say ‘look a this’ the big ‘ole Mercedes when screaming by. It ‘sounded’ like an AMG. Based on how fast it blew by us it had to be well north of 150-160 and there weren’t really any other cars so it was a good spot to test its performance.

In 40+ years of driving I have never been issued a ticket for speeding on a highway or freeway. And the last ticket I received was for going 37 in a 30 on the Hennepin Ave. bridge on my way to a Gopher men’s hockey game! This was more than 10 years ago! My latest vehicle (Porsche) that I’ve had for a year now has a published “top track speed” of 162 mph, but so far I don’t think I’ve touched 80. Chalk it up to maturity, wisdom, old age, cautiousness, or some combination of these.

I have a pretty good track record as well in my 30+ years of driving. I got one, one summer while I was in college working at the gas plant… it was $5 (Thank You… Montana). Got a warning on my honeymoon 6 months ago just south of the Split Rock. A month later got a ticket on 35E when it goes 70mph to 55mph at 494. She caught me doing 76mph in a 55mph. Took it to a hearing and it was cut down in price. I admitted I was speeding at 76mph in a 70mph zone. Though the State Trooper caught me right under 494 exits/bridge. And the hearing officer even said she hates it there.

Cops sit in that area regularly. I don’t speed in that area.

I’ve had one speeding ticket; written as 55 in a 45 on a Wisconsin road in the middle of the cornfields where roads aren’t marked with speed limit signs, he said if not marked they are 45. He couldn’t prove I was speeding, and I know he wasn’t playing radar as he had literally just turned onto the road when he saw me and turned on the lights. (There was another sliver trans am in the area that my car was mistaken for more than once). He was “nice” and wrote me up for 55 in a 45.

Later that very afternoon when I can home from work, a brand new 55mph sign was put up on that road. My ticket got thrown out.

ALLEGEDLY I’ve hit 100 in a 4cyl 1989 Corsica between Duluth and Two Harbors. There were always 2 cops, one going each way. Once I spotted them, and was out of range, I let loose.

My current vehicle, I ALLEGEDLY hit 120+ in the UP of MI. IF there were other cars around, I would have assumed them to be owned by SteveMN and Armadillo.

I will admit to being in a vehicle, a Roadrunner, on Winnetka on the way to high school, and the driver hit 135~. Not. Even. Joking.

(and I never got into a car with him again).

As long as drivers are passing you on your left you should be fine. Personally, being retired, I’m hardly ever in a hurry.
