Sisyphus is an underrated brewery, IMO. That’s close to downtown Mpls. Parking SUCKS, though.

Dual Citizen (near Barrel Theory/Blackstack, relatively) is also an underrated brewery.

I think Sisyphus was still buried under the 394/94 interchange the last time I was there.   It was almost 7 years ago and I didn’t realize until about a month or two ago that they moved out near Insight and Norseman Distilling

They moved? Wow, that was under the radar. Huh. Last time I was there was also under that interchange by Dunwoody.

I just looked and according to Google they are still in that location.   The Sisyphus I saw by Norseman is an entirely different business.

Ah, ok. Weird. Either way, I like their beer. I should get back there sometime.

Just found out that Rostamo’s Bar in Crystal is no more. Demolished for a med clinic. I grew up just down the road from there. It was the Crystal Airport Bar. You read that right. As seedy as it looked. Only went there twice, and that was one time too many, but that was an iconic bar, relatively. That was the bar you told the newbs to go to, when they were in the area, as a prank. I won’t miss the bar itself, but I will miss its existence.

I had lots of text which just speaks more for me seeking attention then not.  Bad behaviors I’m trying to cut down on.  Thought I’d lay this down.

I’m sure others have been to more.  Its incomplete and I’m sitting around 300 breweries.  Untappd says 330.  I have 290 or so on this.  Whatever.  I don’t consider every branch location to be a brewery but sometimes untappd does.

There was a couple (as in husband/wife) in a beer group I’m in that was on a mission to visit every MN brewery (as of April 2021 the number was 183, but I know more have opened since then). They did it, but it took them a few years. There have been a couple more that just opened (or are about to open), but earlier this year, they were up to date.

Before I bought my house I finished off everything in “northern virginia” end of 2016.  At one point I could have spent a few weekends going to every place in Maryland but I didn’t care enough.  If I had a GF/wife that was also interested i could see that.

Armadillo and I hit up Luce Line (Plymouth) this afternoon. His first time, my second. Confirmed my opinion of a great space (despite parking) and good beer. I’ve done flights there both times, mixing it up to sample a bit of everything. Amazingly enough, going against all my favorite flavors/styles, the Peach-Apricot Cobbler smoothie sour is their best. After the flight, actually ordered a full pour of it. I *KNOW*

Peach Apricot Cobbler is a thick and decadent smoothie sour. We ferment this beer with a modified yeast strain that creates a clean and balanced tartness before aging it on cinnamon and vanilla beans. We then blended the beer with all of the peach and apricot puree we could find to create a thick, gluttonous, but magically delicious treat.

I can see this being an issue in areas outside of the upper Midwest like in Massachusetts which is pointed out in this article.   There are a couple ethanol plants that capture CO2 here in Minnesota.  Also Linde, Air Liquide, and Air Gas all have CO2 capture plants in the upper Midwest.  Absolute Air will have another plant online in the next year or so in Faribault, so the upper Midwest will be doing probably much better than other parts of the country in terms of CO2 availability.   In the last three years the only gas shortage that I am aware of in our area was Helium but that was before the pandemic.  All three of my gas suppliers; Airgas, Matheson Gas, and Mississippi Welders Supply all have told me that gas supplies are in very good shape even with the uptick in construction and manufacturing trying to catch up after 2020.

White Bear Meadery finally got the mead hall opened.  So much more space to work with.  No kitchen (yet) but a much better facility.

I still look incase somebody else has anything to say for my own ends.  Just justifying my presence here. :)

I cruise the brewery subreddit with is mostly brewing industry people.  Consensus seems to be this is a “Night Shift” only problem and while maybe not ‘crap’ it seems to be an excuse for Night Shift’s internal problems of bad bets and moving away from brewing in house.  To me this looks more like they’re failing from their own issues and its making a splash because they’re a respected name and CO2 is just an excuse.   If this were a true problem there would be a lot of small breweries screaming and others would have an issue.  That doesn’t seem to be happening.

Despite being a native born masshole I don’t have any special connection to industry, just a bit of logic downstream.  It looks more like a once popular brewery chased a couple of fads, couldn’t keep control of their own product and position in the market space, and is now blaming others for basically firing all their brewery production staff and offloading everything to Jack’s Abby.  To me this looks more like failure is imminent for Night Shift.  Especially having shifted all their brewing so publicly.  People like their authenticity in that their product is being made hyperlocal*.  Everett MA vs Framingham MA might as well be different planets.  I know, I’ve tried making that drive to revisit some breweries back in November of last year.  Though that was Jack’s to Idle Hands who is still doing some great work.

*Additional thoughts, will be interesting to see how that gets stretched with Treehouse having multiple locations and a golfcourse in massachusetts.  Likewise Wachusett has been building multiple locations however those have regional reputations.  Treehouse as being treehouse.  Wachusett as being a regional brewery with “mass market” beers aimed at the general population and a lot of local sports allusions.  Wachusett went for popular appeal with the masses.  That being said, I think most craft people still like the idea they can go to a place and talk with those who are close to those who make the beer themselves.  I wouldn’t be driving half way across the country if that weren’t true.

Glad we made it to Nightshift this April when we were out for the FF!  I thought they had some good stuff and it is a huge space.  I can imagine that place is packed before Bruins games given it’s right across the street.  Bummer if they go down.

yes but its exactly because of things like that (second location, probably the same space that once had the Beer Works location) they’ll go down.  Its still a business.

We are in Alexandria for the weekend.  Snuck away from family fest to try some breweries.
so far have done copper trail.  Meh.

Has anyone been to the complex that is 22 Norsemen, Carlos winery and they also have an event space.  Holy crap – as diesel said “they are printing money”.

on to thousand Lakes Brewing next.  Well, after the winery.

    cheers!

Yes, been to 22Northmen/Carlos Creek 2 months ago. Can’t imagine how much $$ they’ve stuck into that place. And we loved Copper Trail! Many good dark, malty beers. To each their own I guess.
