Censorship over having a negative attitude? That’s a head scratcher for me. I can get a bit negative myself when my teams are not performing up to expectations. I actually enjoyed his posts, both for their content and for their six-sigma pessimism.

I’ll take a negative attitude any day over those who show little civility and a disrespectful proclivity toward childish name calling. There are a few frequent posters who can’t even handle someone disagreeing with them.

A couple of unfinished items left–

–Waiting for an “official” announcement on Ryan Johnson’s plans. It was reported he was leaning on coming back, but nothing from the U yet. If he comes back, the Gophers will have 9 defensemen.

— Still need a goalie

— Still need an assistant

— By my count we now have 14 forwards, so may need to add 1 or 2 more if Sammy isn’t coming back, and Bearpaw has indicated he is not.

With so many underclass men on the roster this upcoming season I could see the 2022-23 season going a lot like last year. With a lot of talent but a young team (at least young in terms of college hockey experience. I haven’t looked at what age each player will be coming in). Point being, can we agree now not to lose our cool in mid November if we’re not winning every single game 6-0. I’m saying this for myself as much as anyone else. Let’s just enjoy the season and trust Motzko.

Good to hear that there’s been a lot of interest in the open assistant job. I’m sure there was whenever there was an opening under Don Lucia too, but back then we didn’t really hear much until an offer was made, so having this transparency is refreshing.

I was serious that is hope Miller is the one if a B1G assistant is truly interested, but would Osiecki or Strobel be interested?

 

I can’t imagine it’s anyone from Penn and MSU doesn’t have a staff. Neither of Mel’s guys make sense. Don’t think they’d phrase it as an assistant if it was Graham and Jackson’s other dudes are ND lifers.

Pinoniemi is as big of a wild card as any recent commit I can think of. Has potential, and junior experience but really no idea what he’ll bring next year.

I think he’s a player most of us on here will be pleasantly surprised with. Very good player that’s flying way under the radar.

I was clueless on about 50% of the players at first until I did the same thing with ALT. I figured I would help out the rest of the clueless people like me by then listing their names in order on top. I’m just excited to finally see the official squad take shape.

I agree, we need to start panicking now. Who is foolish enough to think that just because those players are featured on Twitter they’re all going to end up with the Gophers. It’s a long summer and the Gophers already blew their chance at getting anyone else impactful, while other teams, especially those in better conferences, loaded up with world class transfers, some of whom were from better conferences.

I expect 20+ regular season wins and another BIG championship at a minimum. This year’s team is re-loaded to the max. It will be interesting to see what the lines will be. I’m definitely more excited for the upcoming season than the last few years. A really good fourth line for this year: Lamb, Brodzinski, Strobel all goal scorers.

Would love to see Lamb put up 9 goals against Penn State

@vegoe is working on an article in the coming weeks that will have more data. But from the documents I have seen, they are going to do their best to get the ice width down to 89′ vs 92′.

The attached doc has more up-to-date numbers/dimensions.

Edit– Just what Jup said..

It will be interesting if he attends Buffalo’s developmental camp in the next month or he is playing hard ball and wants to force a trade. Maybe he gets dealt at the draft to a team that would prefer that he turns pro. He has a very limited social media presence so he is not proving any clues to his future. So, to answer your question… we may not know until school starts. On the bright side, depth at defense is our strength.

11 freshman on this years team. Reloaded to the max, new blood. The 22/23 roster is listed, this is going to be an exciting team to watch.

This year scoring shouldn’t be an issue, and defense looks like an obvious strength. If Close can play decent, maybe even better than last year this will be a tough team to beat.

If the guys on the second line improve and have a big season, especially against higher end opponents, that’d go a long way. Same goes for guys like Nelson and Brodzinski (will be interesting to see where he slots in the lineup).

Potential weaknesses they need to improve from last season to become a team that puts the fear of God into their opponents:

1. PP PP PP
2. More consistent scoring depth
3. Close cannot regress a la Laffer in 2021

Doubtful he regrets it. He appeared in two NHL games and got PAID. He was a 5th year senior & the team he (reluctantly) left didn’t ultimately hoist the NCAA trophy, I’m sure he regrets the circumstances $ leaving his teammates…but not the decision.

The offseason both of them (and Moe) came in was an unusual one where tBob had to completely rebuild the goalie corps. Schierhorn and Kuatz had just graduated and Robson signed, so we had to bring in a couple of frosh and nab Michigan’s backup who was getting tired of riding pine. Maybe Moe was mishandled, but we didn’t a Ritcher winner and an NCAA semifinalist out of those two when they arrived, so Wiese may surprise us too.

Hopefully we don’t have to find out the way we did with Close though.

His resume speaks for itself. He would be a great hire, but I wonder why he would want to be on the move again when it seems that OSU appears to be on the uptick. ( I know that MN is a blue blood and that could be a reason ) It just seems that after his long stint at Denver he seems to have moved around a few times.  If he stays for 4 years, I will take it.

At the time, Cooley was still officially committed to Notre Dame, but had made it clear that he was exploring his college options. It was around that time that Cooley, who is a dynamic forward from Pittsburgh and is projected by many to be a top three pick in the upcoming draft, confided to Snuggerud that the Gophers were strongly under consideration.

“It was kind of out of the blue that he said Minnesota was in his top three,” Snuggerud recalled, immediately enlisting help from Team USA defenseman Ryan Chesley, who is also Gophers-bound. “Chesley and I were recruiting him to come here and win a national championship.”
