::In what world does gopher hockey lose a potential starting goalie to AIC? Best of luck to him, goodbye to his professional aspirations.
Will he start at AIC? I mean we do have a guy returning he played pretty well last year.

I love the Close story just as much as the next guy. Is he the goalie that is going to steal us games, no. Could he be a reliable guy, somewhat. Boynton had a decent chance at playing this year and starting the following.

There has to be a reason Boynton didn’t get a sniff last season despite the departure of Lafontaine. Didn’t they also dress Bartoszkiewicz ahead of Boynton for some games?

I assume close was not on scholarship and now will be. That could have also played into decision on Boynton.
I’m really hoping we have something in Owen B.

::Not sure we need 3F’s. Knies, Cooley, Snugerrud Pitlick, Huglen, Kurth _____, Nelson, Brodz Strobel, Pino, Nevers Schmidt, Mittelstadt, _____
Maintaining my sentiment that Pino is the Huglen of this years freshman class. Very good player, flying under the radar. Could play alongside Nelson and Brodz on that third line and do quite well.

He did? I highly doubt that if he left. If he was likely to play they would have played him some this year after McLaughlin left.
Maybe Close is better than you give him credit for.

::Close is a serviceable goalie on a team with an A/A+ defensive unit and an A- forward unit. Sure, they’ll be okay with him but having a big A goalie like Chrona/Portillo is one of those things that can put a team over the top. They should be looking for one of those for the pipeline or as a transfer next spring.

::Yes I mistyped…jesus people it wasn’t that hard to figure out what I meant.
You know for a bunch of people who drool over stats it seems you all are dismissing Close rather easily. I mean the guy had a 92.5% save percentage and gave up less than 2 per game and started every game after He Whose Name I Tend To Forget left the squad to go pro. I would say that warrants a little more than “well if we have to play him we can survive” which is how a bunch of you sound. He isn’t Ken Dryden but he isn’t Josh Sievebida either…hell Chrona the Great had a 91.1% save percentage and gave up 2.11 goals per game. And because NCHC Superfan#1 will say something like “yeah but he faced the NCHC which was tougher!11!1” Portillo the Conqueror had a 92.7% save percentage and a 2.09 GAA and he played in the same league as Close.
I am not saying we shouldn’t have another goalie (I always like a goalie competition unless the guy is Hobey worthy) but this notion that we need some A+ goalie to win is ridiculous. The notion that the team can’t win with Close (as of now, the future could obviously prove otherwise) is just laughable.

::I’m good with Close. There are plenty of goalies in the transfer portal for backup purposes.
At this point they seem to have two scholarship goalies and I’d think they can get a freshman third goalie from MN HS or the NAHL or something. Like I mentioned above, transfer portal can be used if a big time option is available next spring.

::Close seems fine but we’ve seen goalies like Kangas regress considerably after a short stint of high level play. Ideally at some point this program would find an NHL caliber goalie. Maybe there’s an off chance Bartoskiwiecs can be that guy but I wouldn’t bet on it.
This team is typically built well enough that average goaltending should suffice but it’s just interesting that Wilcox has been the best goalie this program has had since… forever ago.

::Some people here seem to think a goalie’s size is the main factor on whether they’re good. I respectfully disagree.
not the main factor but I am generally a fan of big goalies. I would take Moe on our roster. I’d also take this mammoth kid

::It’s not 1980 anymore. The tall goalies are often even more athletic than the small guys.
The point is we don’t want the Gophers to miss on the next this guy. Oh look, 6’5″.

::The rink width could be 92.5' when all is said and done, but the project will require lowering where the ice sheet sits and will be about the same dimensons as Kohl Center, Compton Family Ice Arena and Verizon Wireless Center. pic.twitter.com/7AjVDcpnqf

::So on the glass seats (Row 0) will have their knees where the glass meets the boards? Or that’s the same as it is now?
Row 0 seats should definitely be luxury, wider seats at a premium over the other rows. But give row 1 people priority to grab the seat in front of them (which might not work perfectly if they are wider enough to have fewer seats…)

::The current corners are only 2 ft radius? That has to be a typo. What is the current radius?Nevermind, just saw it in the spreadsheet.Yeah there’s definitely going to be another round of reseating for this. The cynic in me thinks it’ll be a repeat of last time, but maybe, with Coyle now in charge, they’ll find a lower impact way of doing that.

It will be interesting to see what will happen. If they want to add more sections to the students, then I would guess they would try to do that next off season with this remodel. Obviously as someone who has seats in a section where they would want to do that, it will be interesting on how that plays out. If we hear rumblings about that happening, I would love to be able to scout out our new potential seats. We were moved during the playoffs and picked section 17, but after sitting there would prefer another location if forced to move again.

The 3D seating map is absolutely awesome and helped me during multiple season ticket moves over the years.

Where can I find that and is that a function where they actually show you what you actually see from the seat you are looking at? I have seen that function when looking at seats for other venues, and yes, that is a helpful tool.

It’s only a few rows per section, but you can get a pretty darn good feel about where the glass hits the net, where the net hits the open sides, etc. and use that to have a feel for what the view is from other rows.

Certainly greater than the planned 24 foot radius…28 foot corner radius? 32 foot corner radius? I can’t see the entire spreadsheet on my phone, but am curious about the exact number. To me, corner radius being reduced is a bigger issue than simply reducing the rink width.

According to the spreadsheet, it’s 20 ft, which surprised me. I knew it wasn’t 2 ft, but I thought it was in the low teens given how deep they are.

::No reason to reseat anyone but row 1 (and they don’t need to move if they don’t want to). Beyond that any newly open seats in row 1 can fall into the standard upgrade process.
If we’re just talking about the sides (5-9 and 17-21), then yeah it’s pretty straight forward: either leave everyone where they are or move everyone a row down (depending on how they shape the gaps for the benches), then let anyone who wants to opt out find someplace new.
The real issue is the ends and corners since they length of the rink isn’t changing. If they do end up giving sections 11 and 15 to the students, that will help a lot since the seating configuration in those sections would be moot, but that still leaves 1-4, 10, 16, and 22-24 because now matter what they do, the perspective of those seats are going to change and (with the exception of section 1) there’s going to be fewer row 0 seats in those sections than in row 1.
I’m also curious what they’re going to do with section 1 when they lower the rink. If they leave it as is, it may not affect row 1 that much, but rows behind them may have an obstructed view of battles along the end wall.

::I would have loved to have Jared Moe right now, having the size I want in a goalie, competing with Close and then Bart in juniors.
No you wouldn’t. If Moe was still around you’d never know what you had in Close and you’d be asking for Bart to come up to be the back up.
And what did Moe do in Madison this year?

I think both Moe and Close’s numbers are a product of what team they were on, but in my opinion Moe is the better goalie. I’m very happy with Close though!

::Well this is anti-climactic so far on the new addition front
it’s been so quiet!!! At this point seems likely we’ll bring in Brody Lamb, but I figured we’d get an NLI announcement by now.
Maybe waiting on assistant coach decision before, which we have also heard zero on. Is Ben Gordon under contract? Thought his deal might also be up.
