Kessel was a Madison native wasn’t he? Fair to say wisco had the upper hand on him. I hate to agree with this guy but the other poster has provided no reason to believe they weren’t blowing smoke
Just going from memory, I think he liked the Minnesota high-flying (low results
) style of play over Wisconsin’s clogged-pipe strategy. If I’m remembering this correctly, Kessel pulled a “Parise” by matriculating with the arch enemy in a year his homer team won a national title.

::The below list is some of the top NHL prospects to come out of MN lately. Obviously some are missing and some don’t belong. It shows Motzko may have things moving in the right direction of keeping the top talent in the Twin Cities. Also sweet is the Whioux not hitting on top MN guys recently other than a legacy. I know you said this isn’t a comprehensive list but I can think of a handful of players that could be added from the ’22 and ’23 draft classes. Either way, definitely nice to see a fair amount bolded in the recent classes and now we wait and see how they actually pan out.

Are you the guy that said Bobby Brink was coming to the U?
I am.
I jumped the gun and announced it when I was told there was a 70% chance he was flipping. My source for that was a parent of a very prominent player (not a current Gopher) who played on many teams with Brink.
I get crap for that all the time here. No biggie – I hoped I was breaking big news, but swung and missed. Lesson learned.
Curious, what does that have to do with my statement above?

I think the debate is whether or not Moore is the recruit the OP was referring to, or is there another guy coming that is the coup?
He wasn’t referring to Moore. It seems as if everyone just read the discussion that was had in the Potential Recruits thread there wouldn’t be any confusion.
For anyone not familiar with Oliver Moore, here is a highlight compilation from his freshmen year at TG:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1x_ydwTaMvg Obviously a couple years old and not against the greatest competition but you can at least get a little sense of the type of player he is.

If he’s from the city of Mounds View, he’d actually be an Irondale kid…but he went to TG.
City of Mounds View goes to Irondale, unless you open enroll to Mounds View High School (Mounds View High School is Arden Hills, Shoreview, North Oaks). Irondale is New Brighton and city of Mounds View.
Bostrom went to Mounds View High School. But the pride of Mounds View High School is probably Adam Weber or Billy Turner.

Quote:Oliver Moore — C, U.S. NTDP, 5-foot-10
You’ll notice all three of the U.S. NTDP forwards included here are centres. And next season, once Stramel goes off to college, the expectation will be that Moore and Will Smith (more on him below) will carry the load offensively at the program as a 1-2 punch down the middle. Moore impressed me on my November trip to Plymouth to watch the U18 team play (he was up from the U17 team and played well) and I’ve really liked what I’ve seen whenever I’ve watched him on tape as well. Moore wants to hang onto the puck and make plays, he’s got an impressive one-timer from the right flank, and he uses some clever movement patterns to make defencemen miss and get to his spots as a shooter.

That’s impressive for that draft class

Warner out there yet have a hard time seeing him here.
Obviously, you don’t turn down Cooley. Curious if there are more dominoes to fall.
I don’t think Mittelstadt the forward signed an NLI. He and Warner may need to find new homesI expect Walker/McLaughlin/Meyers and now also expect Cruikshank gone, with Knies the question.

::For those who want to get a quick update about who he is. A couple of articles about him. Quote:
4. Logan Cooley — C, U.S. NTDP, 5-foot-10Cooley is a beautiful, flowing skater capable of beating defenders off the mark or circling the zone to get defenders watching him with the puck. He’s got an uncanny ability to side-step and hop around oncoming players at speed. He’s got a great sixth sense for timing and spacing around the zone which frees him to accept passes or jumps him onto rebounds. Despite a smallish frame, he regularly flashes skill to the inside, slicing to the middle and pulling pucks through or around defenders.
He’s also a Swiss Army knife player who combines NHL speed and skill with a working attitude to push pace, make plays, win races, stay involved, and get onto the ice in all situations. I love his tempo and feel for the game out there. His touch with the puck and hands both get high grades, his skating (particularly his change of pace) and energy level are both differentiators, and those things make for a pretty compelling package on the ice. You won’t find a scout who doesn’t like him, either

Who is the best American Gopher from east of Chicago/Madison ever?
Brent Gates?
Geno Pichora, the goalie who committed right before Covid and is from Pittsburgh, could have also been a candidate to dethrone Grant Scott but since he’s got a .906 save percentage in a league I’ve never heard of currently, guessing Cooley has a slight edge over him in terms of potential.

::I know people don’t necessarily move on when they’re ready and often do it before but I think it’d be best for Knies to work on some of his other skills before moving on. He’s a big net front guy and excels in that area but is kinda one dimensional. You can make a career out of that role but you’d prob make more money long term as a more well rounded player. maroon and gold
