Worcester has a NHL regulation ice surface. The Gophers seem to play much better on the smaller ice surfaces. It’s all about match ups and if the Gophers play their game, they will win!

UMass doesn’t take penalties. Hopefully 50+ minutes of this game are 5 on 5 for viewing purposes.

Think the Gophers have them on forward depth. Think they might have better offensive d men but Gopher unit probably better overall.

Extremely experienced goaltending I’d maybe give a slight edge to them there.

Overall, if the Gophers show up I I’d say they win the first one.

This could be Michigan’s year…young but uber talented. Then again, they did lose to ND 4 times and won once by the thinnest of margins. ND/UMD style of play shuts down speed teams.

As I look at that bracket I smell an upset in at least one of the Mankato/Cloud/Gopher games. If I was filling out a bracket for five bucks my two upsets would be Qpac and Harvard winning.

People underestimate WMU, too, though, because they are not one of the usual names.

It’s obviously so 4 games can be televised on ESPNU during the same day. NCAA makes so much money from football & basketball…that hockey attendance during regionals is purely an afterthought.
