Bus 174 (Netflix disc):
On June 12, 2000, a young man with a gun took the passengers aboard Bus 174 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil hostage. This documentary examines the event itself, the resulting media frenzy, the police response, and the perpetrator’s background.

Documentary, a LOT of real footage, along with interviews and context around the hijacker and the way of life for the “street kids” in Brazil. A lot of missed opportunities/bad calls by the police during the situation, and unless you know the story already, you really don’t know how it’s going to end. I thought it was very good, very much “here’s what happened” without a lot of bias, because the movie presents as many angles as it can, with the interviewees.

I would recommend this, because it shows, in depth, the moment-by-moment decisions that goes into these situations; everyone from the hostages to the hijacker to the police to the higher ups in government.

This link is for a Nat Geo special about a bus hostage situation that happened in Manila in (I think) 2011 in which a whole of of stupid and tragedy happened.  https://vimeo.com/57690855
