If you lose both Knies and Lucius forward depth next year will not be as strong as this year (with Lucius).
Cooley/Snuggerud/Kurth + a summer of development for the others
Knies staying would basically even out the scales as I believe he is a Hobey contender for next year (not to get too far ahead of ourselves, Gophers still have hockey to play THIS year) and it’s kinda looking like he’s leaning towards staying.
An argument can be made that Knies and Faber could develop in their respective NHL affiliates, but I think they both could use another year in college. There are too many examples now of players who leave one or two years before they are truly ready (size, strength, maturity). It shouldn’t be dismissed that some kids just need more time to mature mentally and emotionally as well.
