Seeing his eyes wide open and on his side when the trainers got to him. He may have been dead or his heart had stopped. Too see him completely motionless with the eyes open was the scariest thing I have ever seen during a live sporting event.
The Denmark team doctor said that Eriksen was “gone” when they got to him. Heart stopped, not breathing.
For Eriksen’s sake, this was the best possible place for that to happen. They started chest compressions in under 2 minutes after he collapsed. From what I’ve read, another minute or two and you start getting into permanent brain damage territory. Had this happened at home, or maybe even in a training session, he very likely would have died.
Really scary stuff, the whole medical team deserves a damn medal, literally saved his life.
