Okay, complete modern video game newbie here. A couple weeks back I posted I was looking at getting a Roku TV for the bedroom. While shopping for that my wife spied the 65″ 4K screens and decided we need one of those. Then she decided we need to get into gaming and UHD Blu-ray as well, so she is now focused on the “XBox One S”. As regards the XBox, is the 500GB console generally going to be adequate? Obviously less $$$ than the 1TB and 2TB. Also, does one need the “Kinect” device or is that not really necessary? I’m learning my wife is a bigger danger in Best Buy than I am.

No need for the Kinect. I don’t have one on my XBox. It ultimately depends on what kind of games you’re planning to play. I have NHL, NBA, Madden, Fallout4, and a couple shooters and have never thought about getting a Kinect.
The capacity of the hard drive is also probably partially dependent on how you plan to purchase games. If you purchase them online and download them to your XBox it will take more memory to store the games. If you buy the disc, they still require installation and will save a decent chunk on your hard drive but not nearly as much.
I believe you can purchase flash drives for added memory if needed, but you’d need to double check on that to be sure.
