I’ve been a Sony fan since PS1. I sure as hell hope this guy’s prediction doesn’t play out. I also assume that if Microsoft does attempt to sell to Sony, the Justice Department will step in. Pretty sure the video games industry having a monopoly is as “bad” as the Post-It Notes industry (the DOJ blocked 3M from purchasing the office supplies division of Avery Dennison a few months back – although, I would argue the 3M-AD deal would have fostered growth not monopolistic stagnation and market abuse like a Sony-Microsoft deal would.)
Would both argue and say that Nintendo is still there, though?
Nintendo didn’t quite go all the way but I believe that the console market will go the tablet route. Being able to grab your tablet head to a friend’s house and play multi-player with your own screen is very temping. To have MS give that up would seem incongruous with their Win8 touch-tablet strategy.
