Easy! As stated above, get seed potatoes. I’ve done them in a big planter, not the ground, sort of a plastic 1/2 wine barrel size. I’ve grown sweet potatoes too.
Plant them soon, next couple of weeks tops, they have a long growing season.
We plant a few in pails every year. During the season we end up adding a little soil to keep the potatoes covered as they grow. We found out the hard way if you leave them uncovered by soil they taste sour.
