Potatoes planted on Good Friday
City boy question: Are potatoes hard to grow?
They are pretty easy. The key is to rotate where you plant them every year to avoid diseases. Mainly avoid planting them in the same spot as tomatoes or potatoes from the year before. I have seen people plant potatoes in a 5 gallon bucket in city areas if they don’t have space. You can technically plant a potato you buy in a store, but I get “seed” potatoes. Just need to cut the potatoes to make sure you have “eyes” on each potato you plant in the ground. It is “tradition” or an old wives tale to plant your potatoes on Good Friday, although sometimes Good Friday is a bit early since the ground may be frozen or snow still on it.
