Primer (Netflix Disc):

If you liked this one, the same director made Upstream Color about a decade later. Just as confusing.

It was more art-house beret-wearing “film” than anything. Blech. Understood it perfectly, but ugh. How high in the air can one’s nose go?

Andre The Giant (HBO Max):

Doc on the life of Andre.

Growing up, his career was at its tail end. I started getting into wrestling just before Wrestlemania III, which is STILL the best Mania ever; the massive passing of the torch from Andre to Hulk Hogan (I didn’t know that then, obviously, this became known years later to me). I was a huge fan, of not just his “character” but of him. What I would give to sit down and have a beer with the guy and just shoot the breeze…

With the interviewees, Vince K MacMahon still comes off as a cold-hearted a-hole, but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he didn’t know how to express his feelings (felt like crocodile tears to me, when talking about Andre). Hulk…he was genuine. You could feel it, when he was talking about Andre. The others, same thing. Andre was just a special presence in their lives, a one-of-a-kind.

Even if you are not a fan of wrestling, watch this for the PERSON Andre was. This doc really shows that. I honestly re-felt the heartache when I learned he passed away. He was a special person.

LOVED the Andre documentary. You are spot on about Hulk Hogan. Very genuine.
