Primer (Netflix Disc):
Four friends/fledgling entrepreneurs, knowing that there’s something bigger and more innovative than the different error-checking devices they’ve built, wrestle over their new invention, which is a time machine.
Extremely low-budget movie, and it’s basically Back To The Future with a PhD. Reading about it (after watching), they did not dumb down the dialogue at all, which will leave some of you a little bit lost (I know I was a bit over my head trying to follow). However, the visual action makes up for that, and you don’t lose what is actually happening.
Definitely a thinker of a movie, it is rather short (78 minutes, and reportedly there is only 80 minutes of actual film), but I’d give it a go if you want to rack your brain a little.
If you liked this one, the same director made Upstream Color about a decade later. Just as confusing.
It’s on Netflix Disc, so found it, moved to top of my list. Thanks!
